We are located in the middle of Prince's Island Park and we are accessed on foot via one of four bridges or causeways. Parking is available on the street in the Eau Claire area, underground at Eau Claire Market for a flat fee of $5 on weekends and evenings, or across from Memorial Drive. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
This is was one of the more exceptional meals we’ve had in a long time. We were reminiscing of a meal we had at MOMA in NYC. The new (returning) head chef is spectacular as was our server. We will be back soon!
Great food. Very fresh. And whats on the maerket and available locally.
Food is phenomenal, pricey, but worth it, service was good, although a little slow. Very cool location, but you have to walk there, so its not the most accessible, but gorgeous location and the patio is perfect.
Great food, great service, magical setting
Love the setting by the river in the island park. We booked way in advance for brunch but we had to push to get a good seat on the patio. It was so busy, at times we felt they were scrambling. Food was nothing special & they were out of every kind of juice & their signature cocktail of prosecco & peach. It was only 11am!
Breakfast was amazing. Fresh with creativity that stood out. The potatoes were amazing and the portion was great. The fruit was just good, as some was not very flavorful/ripe. The whip cream served with it made up for the lack of flavor in the fruit. Overall, we lived it and will definitely be back.
This is a cute cafe in the park with a cabin decor. The service was good and the atmosphere nice but the food was less than expected. We ordered the Island Fizz (prosecco and "fresh" peach juice), the French toast and the Eggs Benedict (vegetarian - mushrooms). The drink was just okay with not the fresh peach flavor I expected. The French toast was cut very thick and barely coated in batter creating an extremely dry, bready inside, not the custard center you would expect. The accompanying sauce was tasty, sort of a vanilla flavor, and the syrup good, but that did not make up for the bad French toast. The Eggs Benedict looked good and tasted quite good. The hollandaise sauce was very rich and decadent with a good flavor. The mushrooms were interesting varieties with a very woody, chewy consistency that detracted from the dish. Normally I am a mushroom lover but in this case, a softer mushroom would have been a much better choice. Overall, I would like this place with a few tweaks to the food. Everything had the potential to be great, but all fell short in my opinion.
Unparalled setting with very good food and service. Charming place that I would return to.
Very good service
This restaurant is in a gorgeous setting in a park, and the food is amazing. They use only local ingredients and they know what to do with them. Every dish was perfection, with interesting blends of flavors. The service is impeccable and the waiter was extremely knowledgeable. You can sit inside or out, so if it's nice, make sure you're dressed for the outside because it's such a nice setting.
Once again my parents and I went to River Cafe for my mom’s birthday (it’s her Go-to spot for her birthday and Mother’s Day) and once again it did not disappoint. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the oysters and dessert were the shining light of the evening.
A delightful experience. Restaurant highly recommended. Nice attentive service. The hummus appetizer was exceptional as was the duck entree. The lamb shank entree was a bit dry. The restaurant should make it clearer for out of towers were to park since the island is not acccessible to cars.
Excellent food and service. A hidden gem in Calgary.
What a delightful place for a Sunday morning brunch. Great food and friendly service. Keep it up!
Wide choice, visually enticing and exceptionally tasty food for a reasonable price in pleasant surroundings. Gluten free options were provided and service was courteous, knowledgeable and uninstrusive. The manager very kindly guided us to pick up a frail member of our party by car. Highly recommended.
River cafe was fantastic. We managed to get a seat outside, which was wonderful. Server was incredibly attentive and knowledgeable. We were a bit sad to see nuts on the menu (I have an allergy) after our last visit where we were told they don’t do nuts be cause they couldn’t source them locally/regionally, but I guess they found a walnut supplier. Probably good news for some, but not us.
Otherwise, the meal and drinks were delicious and the night was amazing.
The service, food and ambiance at this restaurant is outstanding. Beautiful patio in the middle of a park. Absolutely worth a visit!!
River Cafe is such a special restaurant and we love dining there with family. We all ordered a different entree and they were all delicious. Our server took exceptional care of us. We had the best table on the patio too. Thanks!
The lovely selection of food encouraged us to try items we may not have had others. One or highlight, beyond the lovely ambiance and the location in Eau Claire, was the amazing service. One word of caution though, the food and service will raise your expectation on all other restaurants, so consider yourself warned.
Good food attentive service. We had the octopus flat bread and lentil hummus.
Food was fantastic, service was fantastic, location was fantastic!!!
Will be back!
Despite a fantastic location and multiple recommendations to go to the River Cafe it was an expensive disappointment. It started with being sat beside the highly trafficked and noisy bar next to the 3 other occupied tables. Perhaps a spot by a window with some privacy would have been nice. Server was attentive and knowledgeable. Out of 5 hot dishes served only the lamb was hot. The salmon was overdone and served on a red pepper puree which was an odd combo. That dish was also served with broccolini that was unpleasantly smoked. The halibut was also overdone and bland. I accept my portion of the responsibility for ordering fish in Alberta. Desserts were beautiful and delicious. In a city full of outstanding restaurants this is not one.
Amazing atmosphere here. All the staff were wonderful. I couldn’t believe our waiter had everything memorized with personality too! The food was great. The service was great. The Devore was great. The location is unique. Loved it. Everyone should come down at least once!
Service was really slow and they messed up our order and our bill. No apologetic free entree or anything.
I liked oysters and Benedict with mushroom but smoked salmon cake was not great. Service though definitely has room for improvement
Atmosphere was cozy and the views of the river and park were pretty. Brunch was delicious (we had Eggs Benedict and French Toast) and overall the service was great. Our waitress was very welcoming and referred us to excellent local attractions and breweries.
We loved our brunch here! The ambiance was amazing and the food was great. Pastries and eggs were highlights. The service was also fantastic!
Perfect lunch in perfect setting with fabulous food and sensational service. My lunch companions and I had the watercress soup, hummus and pita, which was amazing, the burger, the salmon and the salad. It was all finger licking good.
Pretty setting in Princes Park, lovely bottle of Pinot but expensive , service a bit too rushed , very busy and noisy pleasant staff
We were hosting friends from Kentucky and suggested the River Cafe as it is a special treat to eat there and a wonderful location. It remains a wonderful location but I found the food this time disappointing. The duck was dry - the presentation wonderful. The salmon was on a bed of greens that were somewhat colourless and with the little squares of salmon, quite uninviting and really not overly tasty. The burger was evidently very good. The desserts were superb. Our table for 6 was right next to the serving area in a restaurant that was mid day only 1/4-1/3 full. I asked if there was anything by a window so our guests could enjoy the location but that wasn’t an option. No effort was made to move any tables together.
So .... I was very disappointed overall.
This was the second time at this Cafe and it was great as expected. Great staff and very nice menu with some Gluten free options.
Two of us had a $100 per person dinner, excluding wine and tip. Decor is lovely and our server was excellent. Problem was the food. The aspiration and pricing are high but execution was less than average. The most egregious example was the lamb loin being so sinewy that the steak knife couldn’t cut though it. The lamb dish and the salmon dish both had too many things going on, piled onto schmears of what ended up looking like mush. The overall design of the dishes was un-sophisticated, especially given the food philosophy of the restaurant is hyper local. The flavour calibration was just average at best. Simply not up to par with other high end Calgary restaurants.
We LOVE River Cafe. Nothing compares to it. One of a kind food. True passion curated Menu without being pretentious. Inspiring. Just Go. Enjoy, wish I could go weekly!!! (Not from Calgary otherwise I would)
Food was excellent as always. But room was extremely smoky to the point that it was stinging our eyes. It was also quite busy so the noise level was very loud because all the windows were closed. But overall, the food was delicious and we love it there.
Staff were welcoming, knowledgeable, attentive and friendly
Best me we’ve had in Calgary. Fantastic menu with local fare , excellent servers and very warm ambience . Always a special treat for us. The appetizers were especially good this time - loves the bison tartare
We really enjoyed the food. The in house made hot sauce was incredible... wish it was for sale by the bottle!
Food is always fabulous
Service, taste, atmosphere, everything was good
I'm going to have breakfast next time
Wonderful place to sit and have brunch, without question. Our only caveat with this experience was the cocktail featured in the brunch menu was listed as Prosecco and fresh Okanagan peach juice, and what arrived was a Prosecco with apple raspberry juice, which for the cost did not taste very good and wasn’t what we wanted. Food was outstanding and service was lovely beyond that!
