Roast - A Michael Symon Restaurant
Happy Hour: Monday - Friday: 4:00pm-6:30pm
Food was all delicious. Mussels with fries was incredible. BUT the restaurant is very dark and the decor is dated... Bamboo in a pot is so yesterday. Freshen up the décor and it will be great. Our server was a bit "ho hum" about things. We love a lively interesting server.
Great experience overall. We were going to a concert at Comerica Park and we were short on time our waiter was professional, friendly and accommodating. The Food was excellent.
Service was outstanding. Everyone who had steaks were very happy and there is an extensive beer, wine and special drink list. The halibut was a little salty but flavorful
Dinner was very enjoyable and the food was very good with a wide selection and price range. Staff was very helpful and attentive. A great place for a special occasion (anniversary, birthday, promotion). Our table was a little noisy as we were seated near the bar and there was a group who were quite loud at times. (we did not ask to be moved). Parking is a little pricey, but you are downtown.
Was staying at Westin so decided to grab dinner here since we were tired. Very solid steakhouse and would love to revisit again during cold weather season, many entree items are big, protein-packed and grilled things that sound awesome on a cold snowy day. Ironically we ordered salads and roasted veggies for the most part and all were good. I did have the smoked pork chop it was great, the carmelized onions make it!
fabulous dinner, service was incredible, quick, but not too, server was extremely personable, knew the menu well. only question, what is the standard serving for scallops, i had four, table next to me had 5? strange we thought.
dessert was very nice..
We were a group of nine, and had the private room. We all ordered different items and everything was fantastic. Portions were good size.
Definitely will go back.
I went to Roast for a Birthday/Retirement dinner. The food lived up to expectations, but was expensive for what was presented. The meatball appetizer was terrific for $12. My filet was tasty, but Ruth Chris' does the same thing (and a bit better) for $10 less. We tried the mac n cheese and spinach with feta for sides. The sides were tasty, but pricey. They are large enough to split, but other steakhouses can compete easily. I ate at Lola's in Cleveland as well. The menu was comparable. They did bring out a cool, small dessert for the birthday guy too.
Our food was great, our server was outstanding! I only wish I left room for dessert!
Roast is my favorite restaurant in Michigan. The steak I ordered medium rare came medium which is the first time that has ever happened. Rest of the meal was great
Great servers, seem to be understaffed. Food was impeccable and exactly what is to be expected.
Frankly, a little disappointing... The food was tasty, but NOT exceptional (especially for Michael Symon prices). Food and wine prices were ridiculously high. The physical atmosphere was a bit dumpy. Joint hasn’t scene a paint brush in years. Only promising element was our waiter, who was better than average, but still not phenomenal. Unless your boss, client, or father-in-law insists on this place, try any of the many other options nearby.
This was one of the best experiences I've had a restaurant. Our waiter was very nice and informative. His suggestions and recommendations were genuine and much appreciated. The food was simply outstanding!
Went it with concerns it could be overhyped and not live up to expectations. Literally, the best steak I’ve ever eaten. Can’t recommend it enough.
I’ve been wanting to visit every “new” restaurant in Detroit, and had yet to dine at Roast (of course well ahead of the Detroit revival). A few thoughts:
- Entrance: car dropped us in front of hotel and there wasn’t sufficient signage in lobby given all the stimuli
- Prime Rib was undercooked and had to grilled a tad more (steak tartare is rare, but I’m not sure if anyone orders a medium rare cooked steak that it’s essentially seared).
- We had to request bread
- Menu a bit uninspired; no specials
- Wonderful Rose for the price
- Bartender Terrell was a perfect blend of informative and candid/cool
- Nice wine pours by all
- Love the booth spacing - nice for a “private” dinner feel
- Various seating options
In all, would we revisit? As locals, no; but not every establishment needs to pull from locals.
We were placed in a booth that was right next to the side of the bar so it was very noisy with staff noise. It was disturbing. Then we noticed the seats were repaired with tape. It was really tacky that a high end restaurant had a booth at that location and seats that were beat up.
The food was pretty good. And our server was attentive. Funny though she came around a lot when we didn't need her and not enough when needed.
When you pay that much for food, you expect the experience. Didn't get it. Don't think I will be back.
We love Roast, the food is always top notch! Only sad thing is the seats had been taped instead of repaired in the booth. When paying for a high end meal I would expect the furniture to be top of the line as well. Poor management.
Went for our anniversary dinner, perfectly cooked steak, great service! Definitely made special day feel even more special!💞
We were expecting more due to reputation. Food wasn't as good as it should have been.
Outstanding meal over all. You have to be a meat lover to eat here...but there are non-meat options available. Every Michael Symon restaurant I have dined at has been exceptional. Bravo.
We had a wonderful meal! Great environment and the food was delicious. Our waiter was polite and helpful.
This was the first visit for all three of us. The portions were quite plentiful. Had we known, we would have planned our sides a bit better for sharing. Service was solid, although they did seem to ask a bit more than necessary about how the meal was.
High quality food, great service and must do for downtown Detroit. The Bone Marrow appetizer alone was worth the visit, the steak wonderful and desert rich and divine!
ABSOLUTELY A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE. OUR WAITRESS WAS VERY PERSONABLE, AND WOULD RECOMMAND TO ALL
Everything was wonderful. We went for father's day and he enjoyed it.
We have eaten here several times and it is very good. However, this time it took our food an unusually long time to be served. And our steaks, which were cooked perfectly, we’re very smoky tasting. We were also disappointed that there were no daily entree specials for the evening. We were a little disappointed this time!
Roast never fails to amaze us. This wasn't our first visit and won't be our last. We love the setting, the treatment we receive, the menu, the service - just everything about it. We highly recommend it to everyone.
The Lamb shank was fantastic. Can't wait to go back
Had a great meal and a great waiter. Ken was very attentive and good at explaining the menu items and wine choices. All the staff were very customer focused.
First time there and it was amazing! Best pork chop I’ve ever had! I do not like Brussels sprouts but I had heard they were very good here. So glad I tried them because they were great!
The dining experience at Roast was fantastic. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable of the menu and drinks. Our waiter's suggestions on the menu were also very helpful. We found the appetizers delicious and the right portion to not ruin our appetite. For dinner we had the filet and brussel sprouts. The sprouts were the best I have ever eaten, and the steak was seasoned and cooked perfectly. The dessert selection is limited, but there is something for everyone's taste ... if you have room.
This place never disappoints. Food is excellent. Never a bad experience here. Very consistent in food quality, service and timeliness. You pay more and you get more. They have a extensive list of wine and cocktails to suit anyone's preferences. I highly recommend the steaks. We'll definitely be back soon.
Exceptional experience before going to the symphony with my adult daughter. Service was quick (as we told them when we sat down, that we had a time limit). Food was crazy delicious...scallops were perfect and the chocolate bar dessert was delish!!
Great service and delicious food. Server was knowledgeable on gluten free choices. Curb side valet in the heart of Detroit.
Good and service was everything I expected and more. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed it and will be visiting again in the near future.
Our anniversary was fantastic!
Ordered two steaks to go when got home they had a vinegar-based cabbage dressing on top of them all I could taste was vinegar they need decide if they're going to cook steaks or something else
I Ordered Pork Chop with Creamy Polenta and Roasted Asparagus...
Very nice celebratory dinner, made even better by our server, Kevin. His personality and knowledge of the cuisine made our evening special.
