Roast - A Michael Symon Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Great service and good food. Steaks are 'rested' before they are served so it does take awhile. Would recommend to anyone looking for a spot in Detroit!
We spent our 5th anniversary here on 1/14/2018. The whole environment was wonderful. From entering the front door, the staff was wonderful, friendly, and very well mannered. This is not your average run of the mill spot. expect to spend at least $100.00 for 2 people without desert. But it's well worth it. Our booth had very nice curtains, that we could let down for extra privacy. This place reeks of romance. You'll love it.
Friendly staff. Great explanations of meals.
We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation but were seated promptly in a far back corner of the restaurant. We had let the staff know we had our 11 month old son with us on the reservation and they provided us with a high chair for him. The restaurant was fairly busy but there were still several open tables. The water service and support wait staff were excellent and attentive but our waitress however seemed pre-occupied. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks and another 10 to place our orders. This lack of attentiveness from our waitress continued throughout the evening. Once we had completed our meal we then had to wait 15 more minutes for our check. Then an additional 10 for her to return with our receipt to sign. This lack of attentiveness slightly tarnished our evening at this fantastic restaurant.
The food was fantastic! We had 4 adults in our party and we shared 2 servings of the beef cheek pierogis. The serving size was exceptional and the pierogis were excellent. My wife ordered the scallops with a side of polenta, I ordered the 9 ounce filet mignon (medium) with crab, our other guests ordered lobster spaghetti and braised chicken. The steak was perfectly cooked with excellent flavor. Most definitely would recommend it. My wife and our other guests equally raved about their entrees. A minor issue was the bread before the meal. It was a rather forgettable french bread loaf sliced and served with soft butter.
All in all an excellent evening. An especial thanks to Jamal who was very helpful with making sure we had everything we needed.
Food and drink excellent but very expensive. Spent $200 USD thought it would be about $ 150.
The steak is phenomenal (dry aged ribeye and the filet), salads were unreal as well. The sides though were just average in my opinion. Dessert was next level as well. Service was excellent.
I’ve been to roast about 5 times but the time before this was over a year ago and thing have changed. Roast no longer does “ beast of the day “ they no longer have the amazing pork belly and the steak options weren’t great. Now I know good restaurants change their menu often which keeps it fresh and new for the next time you come but I feel like it is gotten worse not better.
I have been to Roast several times and it is all ways excellent. Well trained wait staff that has the answer to questions about the menu items, had two different food allergies at the table and recommended what dishes were safe and made sure the kitchen was aware. Would highly recommend if you want a special dinner.
Granny shanny apple pie is a must. So delicious! Will be going back just for that. Main course was okay. Nothing spectacular and pricey for the portion.
! year anniversary with the girlfriend and we were looking to get a nice steak. have been to london chop house, I would say this is right on par. you're looking at $50-$70 bucks for a steak alone, sides a la carte. Overall great experience.
Enjoyed the meal thoroughly! The steak was cooked just right, and two of my favorite sides were the Brussel sprouts and creamy polenta. I don’t think you can go wrong with any choice you make. I was a little bummed because the restaurant was out of scallops the night we went, but I appreciate the waitress informing us of that right away so we had plenty of time to pick another option.
Perfect way to bring in the new year!
Great wait staff and the food was delicious, great Birthday celebration
The food was honestly nothing special. I’ve had an as good or better filet at Outback. The French fries I had and the crispy potatoes my date had were nothing special. The crab leg appetizer had very little crab in it. The bread was good. The ceazar salad was good. The desert was a very small serving.
The atmosphere in side the Book Cadillac is what made the evening special. Not the Roast. At $120 per person, it was way over priced for what was delivered.
Went for NYE dinner and the food was amazing. We sat at a private table behind the bar which was very romantic. The cocktails were very tasty and the service was great! Highly suggest.
Taylor @RoastDetroit is the best bartender on the planet. She guided me through the menu and even managed to pair a bourbon with the extraordinary marrow plate. BTW, get the #marrowplate #michaelsymon #roastdetroit
The food was good. The Brussels sprouts and pierogi were amazing! The rest was just ok. I went with the aged rib eye. It was not quite as buttery, melt in your mouth as I was expecting from the price and the reviews. The dress was actually casual at this restaurant. We expected the attire of this restaurant to match the prices of the food they served. Four people and a $500 bill shouldn’t be in the same description of a restaurant where the majority were in jeans and a steak that didn’t just melt in your mouth. Many reviewers mentioned the filet... maybe I should have tried that.
Impressed as always. We had a wonderful date night in a cozy booth. We shared the porterhouse and had an amazing cheese board to start. Everything was delicious! The service was wonderful, great wine recommendation. So pleased. We will be back for sure!
Roast is always a great place. Mike's staff does a great job every time. Wait staff knows the menu very well. Get the lamb! Dont forget desert, blood orange sorbet!
I was disappointed by how charred my filet was. I hate the taste of burnt food and it was ruined to me. I like my filet to be seared. It was a romantic setting for our anniversary dinner but a little too dark. The service was excellent.
Great place. The steak and scallops were very good.
Took my cousin who is a big fan of of Symon. We enjoyed the food and overall experience. I recommend the Brussel sprouts even if you don't like them normally. You will enjoy these. Lamb shank is great and marrow is awesome as well!
Everything was great. The service is what really stood out. However, I did not like that we were next to the grill. It was smoky and noisy, so much that I honestly couldn't hear the server that well. Obviously not the best table, but I had a great time regardless. The food, drinks, and services was great!
Very good food, informative waitress and all around great way to spend an anniversary.
Great restaurant with exceptional food and a great wine list. I left feeling very stuffed and extremely happy. Our bill was a little expensive and we did order too much food for the two of us (appetizer, two entrees, two sides, a dessert, and we were given a stack of bread). Would definitely go back just to try the other menu items, not to mention the valet parking was very easy. It was cheaper than some of the parking lots found throughout Detroit.
Our experience was exceptional as usual!! This is one of our FAVORITE places to dine while in the “D”
We went to celebrate a milestone birthday and were not disappointed. The atmosphere (especially for being the day after Christmas) was cozy, quiet and very eloquent. In particular I loved the booth we were seated at, it felt very private and with the dim lighting it allowed for an intimate conversation with our friends. Our waitress was extremely accommodating and went above and beyond the call of duty recommending outstanding craft cocktails, hors d'ouevres to try, which sides to pair with our meals and helped us select terrific complimentary wines for our main courses. We had a lovely time overall, and will definitely be heading back down in the near future for more date nights!
Great service and excellent food. Perfect for a romantic Christmas dinner for two.
This was Christmas Eve and we had not been back to The Roast for almost a year. Mores the pity too, our thanksgiving dinner would have been greatly improved on all accounts, if we had just follow instinct. I understand that Chrissy Costanzan joined the staff in May of this year. Well all I can say is Simone knew what they were doing hiring her. Chrissy made the evening great by not over doing or under doing a craft she has perfected. We felt cared for and we were given excellent advice. I never forget the first taste of blood orange and sage sorbet. Wow!
This was our second visit to The Roast on Christmas Eve. Once again we loved our time spent together having excellent food and drinks. The staff was amazingly accommodating to us. There was a very bad storm outside but we were very cozy and secure inside. The aroma of the foods being prepared took it over the top! We will continue to come every year !
Steaks vas charred the rest of the meal was great.
The steaks were excellent. The bone marrow is worth the trip alone
The food was disappointing, it was our wedding anniversary. Roast was my idea, my wife did not like the Mac and cheese and was unimpressed with my steak. She liked the Apple desert, I thought it was dry and hard. $200+ later, I wish I had gone to Fleming's like last year.
Our family are steakhouse people. We chose Roast in conjunction with our being at LCA for the TSO. This was our first visit. Great service! Cool vibe. Steaks were not in keeping with a high level of steakhouse.
Steaks we had were cooked perfect and tasted amazing. However, all the sides we ordered (four of them), were just ok. Honestly we could prepare those sales sides at home and they would’ve tasted better. For the price of them, they weren’t worth it.
Our table was much to dark to be able to actually read the menu. The beige color menu and the light color type made for a difficult read. We actually had to turn the light on our phone to read the menu. Our greeter telling us about specials and what to expect on menu spoke much to fast which made it hard to understand. We were celebrating our 40th anniversary and overall the experience was good but I was expecting better for a MS restaurant.
I’m glad y’all u where open late to accommodate us so quickly... The place was beautiful and the service was excellent...
Evening started with my first ever Negroni and it was fantastic. The young lady bartending was passionate and enthusiastic about her job and I appreciate that. For starters we shared the bone marrow, pierogie and cheese plate. All were delicious. We shared the whipped potatoes and spinach. Best cream spinach ever. Melted feta instead parmigiana made the difference. A perfectly cook filet was spot on. Excellent char taste. Had The Bar dessert. Once again, excellent. I will be returning on the future.
Before seeing the nutcracker.
Very pleasant and enjoyable meal.
