Roast - A Michael Symon Restaurant
Happy Hour: Monday - Friday: 4:00pm-6:30pm
This was our first time coming to Roast and the experience was nothing short of amazing. The service was amazing and our waitress was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and provided excellent service all night. The roasted bone marrow was killer. The steaks we ordered were cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The brussel sprouts and walnuts side was super flavorful, but the spinach and feta au gratin was out of bounds! I highly recommend it. Overall the experience was being excellent, the specialty cocktail was a little limited, but serviceable. If you're in the downtown area don't miss out.
Rib eye was wonderful. Smoked pork chop was good. Food was very good but not phenomenal for the price. However the deserts were amazing. Such balance. An apple cinnamon cheese cake and chocolate pudding cake.
Enjoyed our meal very much. Had the bone-in rib eye for a special treat and loved the French onion soup. Our waiter did such a great job of guiding us through a perfect meal. Always seemed to be there when we wanted anything and very kind and helpful but never intrusive. Westin employees were striking outside which was exceptionally noisy and a tad chaotic but it definitely did not ruin our dinner. Looking forward to our next visit!
Excellent steaks, but we’re not sure if the dry-aging appeal was really worth the extra money.
My mother received her steak undercooked, which was recommended by the server. It came out medium rare and the cut was chewy. My mother normally enjoys her meat cooked to medium to medium-plus, so it was quite disappointing. There's nothing too special of the food you receive for the price you pay.
I would be back for happy hour for their cocktails, but their appetizers and entrees are over-priced.
Wine by glass selection poor. Value fair. Wouldn't go again. Did not like family style for the price of meal. Chairs are old and sagging.
Food and service was excellent, overall wonderful upscale dining experience. Unfortunately there was a strike for the Westin hotel happening outside the restaurant that caused quite a bit of noise and disrupted the ambiance of the typically relaxing atmosphere; but the staff was kind enough to move us to a table behind the bar that was much more insulated from the commotion. I would definitely revisit... once the strike is over. I do hope the hotel staff win their reasonable living wage soon!
My wife and I each had the rib eye and they were excellent. Cooked to perfection and very flavorful
We were disappointed in our visit. The dining room was very dark. Although the honeycrisp apple salad was very good, the onion soup had several onion skins in it. The entrees (NY strip and smoked pork chop) were ok but not amazing.
Once again we had just a terrific meal. Food was outstanding and service ideal. Glad we tried chicken livers with polenta..delicious and unique!
Great restaurant, excellent good, service was outstanding, great experience
I made reservations for my wife's birthday while staying at the MGM. Very nice place but the food was just ok. The salad was basic and plain. I ordered a ribeye medium and got medium rare, asked for it to be put back on and it still came back under cooked. No apology from the waitress either. It wasnt taken off the bill nor did I ask or expect it to be but I would of thought some attempt to make the situation better would have been made. The service was good but not top notch. We still tipped the appropriate amount but may not come back.
We had one of the best meals ever. Scallops done to perfection. Filet melted in your mouth. Sides of mushrooms and rosemary fries were plenty for two of us. The Bar, a deconstructed S'more all house made, with salted caramel ice cream was excellent. Service was spot on showing up just as I thought about asking for something. Housed in the remodeled Book Cadillac hotel, the evening was a first class experience overall.
The food was very disappointing! Would not recommend it to anyone !
The smoked pork was delicious and the creamy polenta was amazing! My husband had the Ribeye which was tender and delicious. The drinks were also amazing, they were true craft cocktails. A bit expensive but a good spot for a special occasion!
Food ok but no "wow factor".
Main course sides were very rich.
Parking valet was rude and REFUSED to park my car after waiting at the traffic light for 6 cycles
Unbelievable food. Great wait staff. Definitely will be back.
We found our meal to be good, but nothing particularly memorable. Dry aged steak was flavorful and cooked well. Scallops were nothing extraordinary. French onion soup was solid. Charcuterie board needs work. Good wine selection as well. All in all, a good steak house, but nothing significantly better than others in and around Detroit.
We were advised by waiter to order all at once & then it could be brought out course by course as we finished.
We were done with our salad, neither finished it, for quite a while before someone asked if we were done & took away plates. Waited quite a bit for next course & whn I asked waiter if entree was coming, we had a concert to go to, he said they don’t serve next course till 1st one done & I should have advised him. Again, He told us initially it would flow course to course - but no one had asked if we were done so we could go to next. He almost seemed a little indignant. I was a little disappointed in the food, vegs over cooked & polenta, potatoes average.
One of the best ‘overall’ dining experiences we have had while traveling. Loved that the hostess and waiter both were wearing jeans...we were too! That ‘casual’ dress was welcoming and appreciated, set the tone for an enjoyable dining experience. Thank you for being open on a Monday, we would been sad to miss out with only one night to dine out before flying home.
I’ve stayed at the Westin more times than I can count. We love spending time downtown and do so as after as possible. I still cannot believe this is the first time we have had dinner at Roast. I had the lamb Shank and my wife had the Filet. I am a huge lover of lamb and I can safely say this was probably a top 5 meal or me. The wine list is inclusive and I found a nice Amaronne that paired very well with the lamb. My wife’s filet was cooked perfectly. I have to say though that the best part of the meal for me were the fresh oysters. I wouldn’t have thought that oysters that fresh were possible in downtown Detroit but they were. All in all this is probably my new favorite restaurant. The service was second to none and the food was worth the drive from Toledo.
Nice night out, wonderful food and service.
The food was amazing as usual and the service was great! Made for an enjoyable anniversary!
Ribeye was fabulous! Server Amy was great! Food a little pricey!
Steak was grisly. Not great for the price. ($56) Lamb shank was good. The vegetable sides are average and bring up the bill. Missed the “Roast” offering that gave this place it’s name. Nice ambiance but need more for the cost.
It was our anniversary and when I made the reservation I put that down. The waiter introduced himself, Kevin, and wished us a happy anniversary. Kevin was attentive, suggestions for entrees were spot on. We ordered desert and it came with Happy Anniversary written on a piece of white chocolate and a candle. Food was great, we both had the filet and it was cooked to our liking. I recommend the Mac and Cheese and the spinach au graten as sides.
Our waiter was amazing , the food was great and I would definitely be back again
Celebrated my parents’ 50th anniversary with an amazing meal and all-around wonderful evening.
Trip to Detroit to go to Ann Arbor for Michigan game.
Somewhat "heavy" on the spices, each side seemed to mimic the main entre - carrots, brussel sprouts, and mushrooms were very much like the filet mignon in taste and similar spice. Carrots were undercooked.
Overall the experience here was good - however the food was not overly impressive for the cost. I'm a frequent guest at another upscale steakhouse in Troy and this food didn't even compare. The cook was a little off and the flavor wasn't great.
I ordered the Lamb Shank and I didn't really care for it and my husband's steak was very underwhelming. The appetizer and drinks were delicious. Our Waitress was very friendly.
The rosemary fries were amazing. I could have ate those and been just fine. I got the hanger steak and it lacked salt. My husband got the burger and he said it was good but the fries was also his favorite. At the end of our anniversary meal they brought us a white chocolate candy that said Happy Anniversary, so that was nice. Overall it was good just the lack of salt on my steak was a let down.
Never disappoints!! Great place, great food and awesome service!
Very disappointed for the money ! Steak was chewy and hard to eat.
It was my wedding anniversary and they sat us less than a foot away from other guests. I never felt like i could have a good conversation with my wife because we were basically sitting at the same table of strangers.
Wonderful menu. We loved our meals and didn’t save room for dessert. Great service and definitely a destination for a special event (birthday)
Great service, food outstanding, wine fantastic, great everything
Excellent service and ambience. Steak was cold.
The steaks are amazing and the cheese cake and bar desert had so many little touches.
