It was a very disappointing experience. The food was mediocre at best...it really is a shame. We have tried this restaurant many times over the years, hoping that it will be better but it just isn’t

Went to Rousseau House for a birthday dinner...my meal was delious...I had salmon and beets...it would have been nice to have potatoes as well but the beets were amazing, the salmon was perfect! My wine was delicious but there were only three choices. The waiter was fun and a bit quirky! It was a fun and nice place for my birthday dinner!

Unremarkable at best. I expected more, because I received a recommendation from a friend but the construction was an inconvenience; there was concrete being poured beside our table, no parking because the lot was included in the renovation and the entrance to the restaurant was not clearly marked. The staff was very good however, which was very pleasant but the fried chicken was terribly over salted. Overall I would say, no...I would not recommend Rousseau House.

This is our second visit as a family and we enjoy the venue in the old house. Last time we were in a booth in the middle section and this time we faced the garden which was really nice. Everyone was friendly and our orders were taken promptly and the food did not take long. The flavour and seasonings of the meat and vegetables was delicious. The only criticism I would have was the menu is very difficult for anyone who is dairy intolerant. From appetizers to dessert, milk/cheese were in most things. Also the old fashioned chairs are beautiful to look at but need new springs to be comfortable for sitting. We would go again regardless.

We came in early for our reservation and seated right away - very friendly - enjoyed nice calamari app with green goddess dressing - tender and good - enjoyed steak frites and salmon mains - very nice vegetables with them and all nicely cooked and presented - lovely old building and enjoyable overall. Not inexpensive but ok for quality of food and service

Food arrived hot, fast, delicious, and all at once, and the server was great. Prices were very reasonable too, and a lovely patio which wasn't overfull. Fantastic.

Place was noisy, portions small very noisy a very loud group near us we could not hear our own conversation. One gentleman at the table yelled his conversation. Will not come back. Food wasn’t worth the price and because of the noise there was no ambiance

The food was absolutely incredible. No complaints on that end at all! Our server was fairly new but we didn’t feel confident in anything she said or did. Even when she went to find an answer for us it still felt like she was responding with a question. Food was amazing but for the price I wish the service was a bit better. I think for a fancier restaurant they should train their staff with better cues.

Half price tapas was excellent. The only complaint I had was the calamari wasn’t quite crispy enough for my liking. Everything else was delicious and the service was incredible.

The menu for mother’s day was odd . Every other main dish had poached eggs and sauce . Mom had the brisket it had no flavour and full of oil and the poached egg was under cooked . The ceasar salad had pink peppercorns which over powered the salad the only good thing was the waitress . Not a good time for Mother’s Day will not be back and I am a Ancaster resident

We always have a great time when we dine there. I bring friends and family often and everyone has always a fantastic meal and great service. So glad it’s a place I can rely on for fun and a fantastic meal. Especially if anyone has an event the private room is the best. I highly recommend this place to every one. The bar scene is like cheers atmosphere. My husband and his golf buddies hang out there quit often. So all around great place.

We went for the steak and lobster which we heard was very good. We arrived on time and were seated promptly, which was nice. And we proceeded to wait and wait and wait. We watched two tables come in after us and be served so we tried to get any server’s attention but there was no eye contact to be had. Finally my date went to the server while she was at the computer and said something like can we see a server please? And she briefly glanced at him and said yeah I’ll be there. She then proceeded to serve the other tables who had arrived after us and then she finally made her way to us. At first she didn’t really apologize until I explained to her that I don’t usually complain but we have been waiting 25 minutes and haven’t even been acknowledged, offered a glass of water or anything. The people that came in after us are drinking their wine. Then she apologized. However, she went on to have us order our whole meal…drinks, appetizers, and main courses. A little odd. Anyway, we did receive more apologies later on when we were finishing up. The food was delicious however. We enjoyed fresh oysters, Caesar salad and steak and lobster.

Everything about this restaurant is mediocre, except the prices which are far above average. Very disappointing as I live in the area and would love to have a predictably good neighbourhood restaurant.

It was my second time at Rousseau’s and I ordered the same thing as last time. The salmon was ok and there were less vegetables (and it’s what I prefer so I was disappointed). I think the restaurant was under staff that night. I had to go myself ask for more water and I saw her server serving at the bar...The food is great though.

Didnt like walking into the bar area. The food was mediocre. Caramel drizzle cheescake awful. Lack of table service for drinks. No condiments on the tables. Expected much more for the prices and the area. This restaurants needs work.

This was our choice for Valentines Day. This
Facility used to be grand. Now it it is relegated to high prices in a bare basic facility. $45 for a steak, $25 for a burger and $25 for pasta with meat sauce served by an obviously undertrained waiter doesn’t cut it. $15 for glass of house wine should really speak to a high end experience. Sadly this establishment under delivered. Let’s clean the place up, put some tablecloths on the tables along with some nice glassware to justify the prices . The other alternative is to lower the prices and present it as the tavern you are turning it into.

The place is undergoing an exciting renovation. We will be back when it’s done. As for this dinner; the food was average. My lamb shank was less meaty than I’ve had elsewhere and my wife’s burger was unimpressive. Service was solid and dessert was a nice touch for our anniversary. We were told the new menu will be more extensive. See you guys in a couple months.

Rousseau is an absolute gem in the village of Ancaster. Gorgeous old stone building with adjacent parking and cute twinkling lights on the patio :) All the staff were so sweet & friendly and Mark took such good care of us! The ambiance is lovely and the food is creative but widely appealing. Can’t wait for the Brewery and pizza oven to arrive in Spring!!

We had a lovely time at Rousseau House. The restaurant had a fantastic atmosphere and the heritage house feel was appreciated. The food was phenomenal and the Valentine's menu did not disappoint. All of us got different options for our mains and none of us had any complaints! However, the parking lot was not cleared well and tricky to navigate.
