A great menu and cocktail list. Mussels were great. Looking forward to going back and trying a few more things.
Food was amamzing for the value. Will definitely go again!
Delicious, French-Louisiana based food is prepared with an inventive twist. I've been several times to Roux and have never been disappointed. Both cat fish dishes are terrific. The "deconstructed" and appealing presentation of the Jambalaya is uncommon, and the flavours are outstanding! Service is friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is inviting and comfortable. Love those bar stools.
Amazing food but if you’re a group of 6 or more gratuity is included. Be sure to check your bill because the server did not let us know.
Friendly, genuine, and curtious service. Great food. Lovely experience.
Unfortunately we waited an hour for our food. No one apologized or admitted that they had forgotten to either put in the order, or that the chef was too busy talking to a friend at the front. I left without eating, and my friends stayed and ate but had to pay full price, even though they needlessly waited. Maybe don't trust a place that takes reservations for brunch in a city that loves brunch so much they should be turning people away.
Tiny yet inviting space with delicious southern style favourites and creative drink menu.
Great food that brings you to the south but with a refined touch. Great and affordable cocktails too. Good value for the price
Roux excels at a number of things, one of them being their food is simply delicious. I’ve loved every steak I’ve ever eaten there and the chef even made accommodations for a gluten free sauce for my company’s steak which was equally delicious. Their sides are also fantastic and they also have the most fantastic down to earth servers.
Best to CALL for a reservation. “Open table app” suggested the place was full for the original time we wanted. It was not. Server didn’t know why. Not her fault! So this app gets a thumb down. But Restaurant — great. Intimate. Open kitchen. Quiet. Server attentive and knowledgeable. Appetizers fabulous. Esp charcuterie board. Oysters enjoyed by all. Husband thought lamb shank, though ample in portion, a bit “meh”. Best to stick to the real Cajun stuff: smoked ribs, chicken, catfish, cornbread — Roux have obviously figured that out. Would definitely return. An enjoyable evening.
I've been here for both brunch and dinner; the chefs are amazing and I've never been let down by the quality of food. Having said that, their brunch menu is always a little more exciting than their dinner menu - so hopefully they'll make some changes / additions to it soon. Service is usually quite good. There's been a few times in the past where they were short staffed and we couldn't get hold of the server, but recently that seemed to have improved! This will always be a neighbourhood gem. I love meeting friends here who I haven't seen in a long time because it's such a cozy spot and really gives you the opportunity to have good conversation. Thanks again Roux!
We have been there before for dinner and enjoyed it so decided to invite some friends for Sunday brunch which turned out to be a late lunch around 1:30. By that time the restaurant was very quiet so we had a long leisurely meal beginning with cocktails which were all good. followed by our meals and a bottle of wine. The eggs beny with pulled pork were good, tasty but the eggs where a little over done and the hollandaise a little gloppy. The Brisket and hash my wife had was very good...lots of flavour and different textures, a winner. Our friends had the omelette of day which was made with lamb shank and the chicken and waffles. Both of them enjoyed their meals and said they would come back and try dinner.
Love Roux and have been many times. Good and service fabulous. Could expand cocktail list beyond gin and bourbon.
Everything was delicious from the drinks to the food. We will definitely be back.
The food was mediocre. For the extreme price we paid for the food it definitely was not worth it. The service was al
The place was extremely busy on Valentine's Day, but the website did not indicate a prix fixe menu. Despite having reserved online we waited far too long to be seated and the service staff was not very welcoming. But once we sat down, everything changed. The service staff warmed up and became quite attentive. My vegan date was not impressed with her meal -- the taste was amazing but the portions were too small. My meal was fantastic. And when I brought our concerns to the chef - Derrick Markland - not only did he offer an apology, he offered to make us a special meal on our next visit. Our experience went from mediocre to amazing. Did I mention the food is fantastic. I would definitely recommend Roux.
Had a reservation at 8:45pm; by 9:15pm, after no one telling us how long we'd have to wait for a table, we ordered a pizza from Vesuvio's down the street and left. The fact that we weren't seated for 30 mins isn't actually a big deal...understand that it was Valentine's day and it was busy. We just needed better communication from the staff on what to expect for a wait. It was disappointing that no one even acknowledged our arrival, let alone tell us how long it would take to be seated.
Would've liked to have had a printed wine list. It was only on the chalk board and not visible from our table. I unknowingly ordered the most expensive Cab on their wine list and certainly would have chosen an alternative if I had the wine list in my hand. Waitress was new and had a tough accent to understand. Ultimately, my fault for not asking the price but this one bottle was more than double the price of all others on the list. So was a little bit surprised when the bill came but other than this great food and nice cozy atmosphere.
the food was great, however the service took forever. the restaurant was pretty busy and the amount of servers was not enough for the busyness of the restaurant. we were sitting with menus for about 30-45 minutes and two other tables left in the time we were sitting waiting to be served.
It was New Year's Eve so they did a prix fix menu which I wasn't anticipating. Some of the food was cold (that should have been hot) but everything tasted okay. Portions were small. Nothing blew me away. They had a photobooth set up, that was a nice touch, and all the balloons were very festive. I doubt I'll go back.
Very nice ambiance and the food was very good. Loved the balloons and the DJ played great music that suited the evening. Liked the photo machine (nice touch). Chef --as always-- very friendly.
The interior has a warm, cozy and rustic LOOK but my friends and I were quite chilly! It was a very cold December night outside, so they should have bumped up the heat. Service at first was good, but soon it became busier and the ONE waitress working had her hands full taking care of everyone. We felt somewhat negleted at times. Apps and food were above average quality. My friend ordered a Caesar to drink unaware it would come with half a sausage and deep fried something attached for $15. Hahaha we had a good laugh but she purposely adjusted her food choice to the burger not to break her budget. Our first time there, and normally people don’t read drink menus if they order the same drink. Wine expensive but seems to be the case these days...a bit weird when the LCBO sign is glaring at you right across the street! You can bring your own they have a $25 corking fee. Overall we didn’t regret our choice but next get together we’ll explore another venue.
The food was great and the menu has a variety of interesting choices. Service was a little disorganized but very pleasant. The only negative thing was a cold blast when the front door opened. I'm not sure haw to avoid that in winter - maybe a heavy curtain on the way in.
Maybe they were having an off night but the service was terrible. The lights in there were way too bright, they never told us of any specials, never made any recommendations, took too long to take our order, I had to wave the bartender to get our servers attention to order a round of drinks, never offered dessert, took too long to get our bill. It didnt seem like they were too busy to handle things, either. Gotta say, the food might have made up for it, though. Everything we ate was so delicious! Kudos to a talented kitchen staff!
A great spot for a delicious meal. We had cornmeal crusted catfish and braised pork belly with a side of collards - everything was delicious! Be sure to leave room for a great Americano coffee and dessert too.
This isn't the kind of cooking that you can knock off quickly at home - think "low and slow" and take your time to enjoy it. We'll be back - some of the dinner specials are really tempting and the prices are very, very reasonable.
It is a very nice restaurant with very friendly people working there. The food tastes amazing!!
Despite having had Roux on our list for some months, it did not meet expectations. Ambience was fine, staff were pleasant and accommodating and drinks were tasty, but that's about it. All of our dishes were disappointing, starting with a dozen east coast oysters, served on runny ice chips with some hot sauce. I only ever eat oysters with fresh grated horseradish and lemon, but noone seemed to care or come around to check that we needed anything, so I ate them nude, but I would've liked more attentive service. My main was jambalaya which was overshadowed by dry gluey rice from a mold, stuck together with black eyed peas. It took quite some effort to unstick the brick and it dissolved in the mediocre sauce just fine, but it's a presentation and choice of rice that I could do without. Maybe serve the sauce on the side so it gets poured over and assists with the dissolving? But really, perhaps just scrap the rice altogether. My partner had the smoked board of meat and everything on it was dried through, pretty much inedible, it was like being served a plate of sawdust. Very sad dining experience, we'll stick to Farmhouse in the junction and Montreal for hipster smokehouses.
Love the atmosphere here. I’m not a huge fan of the style of cuisine here but a burger and a glass of wine is plenty to keep me happy.
Excellent service. The cassoulet and the scallops were delicious. The cassoulet was advertised as having bacon in it, but it must have been minced v e r y thin.
Great Cajun food. Had the Jambalaya. Would definitely return.
Wonderful neighbourhood place - a great atmosphere and good value
Love this spot. The food is always delicious and the staff are fantastic. I would recommend and go again and again!!
Lovely dining experience! Very reasonably priced too!
Nothing beats Chef Derrick's Brunch Menu for a leisurely weekend brunch. A favourite when we have out of town company and want to capitalize on time to socialize. My fav is the Pulled Pork Bennies, with a side of cheezy grits, though the cornflake crusted french toast is a close second. This is not a "brunch place" we also enjoy date-night dinners, with great cocktails and wonderful food.
We had dinner for 5 people on Saturday September 7 wither reservations at 7:30. Overall Roux provides some interesting takes on southern cooking. Of note was the catfish and pork belly combo. The Fish was nicely seasoned and flaky and the pork belly just melted in your mouth. Also very good was the grits and scallops...two at the table ordered in and were not sharing so I have to assume it was good!
The one downside was that it took over 45 minutes to get our drinks. We were not in a rush but that was a long wait and no water on the table during that time. Once the drinks came they were good and service the rest of the evening was good.
Food was hit or miss, and definitely not worth the 1.5h it took for our table of 3 to receive our mains. We asked three times before the staff seemed to take our complaints seriously. Water was never re-filled. Will not be returning or recommending.
We were disappointed that they did not have oysters that night! We sat inside but it was pretty warm! Server was very nice! We had mussels, beer salad and calamari! All was very good! Everything came our at the correct temperature and portions were good! I had the bouillabaisse! It was very flavorful and there was plenty of fish/shellfish! Did particularly care for potatoes! All in all a very good experience!
Really enjoyed everything, only thing I had an issue with was that waiting on the food took longer than one would expect.
The Roux, as usual, brings a much needed New Orleans cuisine to Tampa.
We went here for a birthday with a group of 12. It was Wednesday night and we were the only ones in the restaurant the entire time. This usually would be red flag, and not going to lie weirded me out a little bit, but we ended up getting top knot he service and eating delicious food! We had great charcuterie boards, and the seafood samplers to start, and various dishes as mains. Everyone was beyond pleased with their order! The jambalaya was spicy if you are not a spice person - I wouldn't recommend it. The presentation of the food was also to be noted. They have a great selection of local beers as well as some good bourbon and cocktails. Lastly, I would go back just for the playlist!! Amazing soul playlist played all night. Great vibe, great food and drinks, great service!
