    We were seated quickly at a table to our liking. I liked the ambiance but my partner didn’t. I thought it was a bit noisy. The appetizers came quickly and mine was a generous portion. The entrees came quickly (before we’d finished the appetizers). The entrees were delicious although I could have used a piece of bread with it to sop up the spicy tomato sauce. Desserts were well presented and tasty although maybe a bit heavy after a big meal. Know that they charge a 3% service fee.

    Great Restaurant Week menu & meals. Bolognese sauce was a hit & salmon was not overcooked. Beers & drinks were tasty. The inside seating was largely empty on a Wednesday night; outdoor seating was full.

    My best friend and I checked out Rustico for Alexandria Restaurant Week. The food was spectacular. I got the spinach artichoke dip, steak and fries with arugula salad, and a skillet cookie brownie for dessert. She got a caesar salad, salmon, and cheesecake. We can’t wait to come back for brunch!

    I took my friend here from out of town for dinner and it was so good! We had the vodka penne and gnocchi which were excellent! The bruschetta was a little bland, could have used some salt...but other than that everything was great. Service was wonderful, highly recommend.

    Food and service were both great! There was an unexpected 3% “Kitchen Appreciation Fee” on the final check. While I understand the intention of recognizing kitchen staff, it was hard not to feel disappointed by the implication that customers were responsible for supplementing their wages. Rustico should prioritize fair wages for their staff without relying on patrons to bridge the gap. Moreover, when asking for a side of dressing, we were told that “they are cutting back on what we’re allowed to give out.” We did receive the dressing, but it appears to be poor business practice to impose unexpected charges while telling wait staff to communicate limitations to patron requests.

    Hi Michelle. We will address the false statement that we do not offer extra dressing at pre-shift today. My apologies. Costs to operate have increased dramatically, and we implemented the fee as opposed to a broader hike in prices. We prioritize fair wages, and we have found that any effort to raise prices in any manner is met with resistance. Guests overall have appreciated our transparency with the fees, how it is used, and why it is necessary to be able to continue to stay open.

    I had an unfortunate experience at this fav neighborhood restaurant. Although I was attracted to the restaurant for Restaurant Week based on the large number of choices it seemed like a bait and switch after the waitress informed me several minutes after ordering that they neither had the entree (steak) or two of the desserts. I did not want the dessert offered. When I suggested they replace it with an appetizer, I was told no before I had talked to the manager. Waitstaff should have been instructed to tell customers of the shortages before ordering so we had the choice to order appropriately or leave. NOTE: Management has done a beautiful job explaining these mistakes and making sure we return. Seems like an off-evening.

    Waitress was nonexistent. Multiple menu items out of stock. Dessert took 20 min only to be told they were out of what we ordered and then only had cheesecake which wasn’t even on the menu.

    Have I got a story for you! First of all let me say the food that is good is very good, but much of the food we tried landed between bland and mediocre. I tried to liven up one of the dishes with cracked black pepper, the pepper mill opened up in my hands and tiny peppercorns all over the table. Funny thing is, the dish w the spilled peppercorns was better with them. Ok so here we go. Appetizer portions were generous, and our entrees came out midway through apps. Dining room was maybe 1/3 capacity so no need to rush us. Our waitress vanished after we ordered, never to be seen again. No drink refills, no, how’s the food, no bill at the end. We waited 10 mins post dessert and got our check from someone else. He said our server “is busy with many tables.” He also disappeared and did not come back to collect the bill. So, I called the restaurant from my mobile phone and when the person answered I told them our waitress had vanished and we had a question about the check. 10 mins pass. I call back. The manager answered and said she will be right over. My question: WTF is a “kitchen appreciation fee” and why is it on my bill? mgr: Oh, that is because kitchen employees are not allowed to receive tip sharing in Virginia, and sometimes it gets extra busy in the kitchen and they have to work harder. Me: so if they have to work harder I have to pay more? mgr: this is Neighborhood Restaurant Group policy but if you feel uncomfortable I can remove it. Some people just reduce the tip by 3% Me: so if the kitchen staff work harder the waitstaff, who is also working harder, gets a reduced tip? mgr: it’s ok we can take it off your bill. Fast forward to when I get home, and there’s an email from OpenTable that the restaurant “cancelled” my reservation. Why would they do that? Oh, to prevent me from leaving a review. Joke’s on them, OpenTable Customer Service fixed it and here’s the review. Food 3 Stars. Service 1 star. Pass.

    Atmosphere was nice, and the fact that there's a customer parking lot behind the restaurant is great! However, we were overall disappointed in our experience. We went on the second day of Alexandria restaurant week. Upon ordering from the special menu, we were disappointed that one of the dessert items offered was completely sold out! This was an early dinner on the second day of the special menu offerings for restaurant week. A menu they put together themselves, yet managed to run out of one of the dessert options. Additionally, my wife ordered her steak medium well, and it came out what I would consider barely medium, charred on the outside, very pink in the middle. She sent it back and figured to just ask for well done because it shouldn't be that hard to cook it that way. However, when it came back out, the middle was still pink in many areas. She ended up cutting over half the steak and gave to me, and I ended up giving her half the salmon I ordered. Pretty disappointed they couldn't cook a steak to the proper level as ordered the first time around, and even more disappointed they couldn't get it right when sent back!

    Had the salmon and a burger, both perfectly cooked and delicious, and no over salted burger, luckily. Happening too much. Beer selection epic as always, though fairly pricey. Didn’t really appreciate the nickel and dime kitchen appreciation charge, I mean what the hell is that? Tipping and extraneous charges have gone a little nutty since the pandemic, but the food and service were excellent.

    Server was very nice and efficient - perhaps too efficient! We ordered appetizers and entrees, and everything came out at the same time! Perhaps she assumed we wanted it all together. It was delicious, though, but we had to rush just a bit to finish everything before it got cold. Will definitely go back - just a minor thing. I guess the moral of the story is: if you're in a rush (and you don't want the high prices of the venues downtown Old Town, especially along King or Union Street, it's ideal!). But in truth, Rustico has never disappointed.

    The beers were excellent. The best salad and the strawberry salad were fresh and tasty. Appetizers of bacon wrapped dates and feta dip were fabulous.Salads were huge. There were 4 of us and we shared so we could have room for pizza. The pizza crust is flavorful and really tasty. The skillet cookies and the donuts were amazing. Our server Karen was most friendly and knowledgeable. Great night with friends.

    We come to Rustico fairly often because of the extensive beer menu and many gluten free options - 5 stars. The risotto tots, fried cauliflower and wings are always really excellent, as are most of the salads and the pizza (whether you care about gluten or not!). This time: The trout was also quite good; the salmon was good but my mom said the fava beans ultimately didn’t sit well (she can have a sensitive GI tract). Our SIL enjoyed the Caesar salad. The bar can be slow and this has happened before and yesterday - our cocktails (3) and sodas (2) didn’t come until after the appetizers. I was a little sad about what i got this time - beet salad (yum) with steak (not so); the steak on my salad was more cooked than the medium rare I specified, and tough, with no tender areas or marbling. We have not tried desserts.

    We have dined here since the opening many years ago and were disappointed tonight on the service. I never leave reviews but felt this time I had to. We had a large party, confirmed a couple of days before. The place was dead. Took us over 30 minutes just to get water. Food came out in a reasonable time but the waitress was horrible. I went to the bathroom after eating, place was still dead and all service and kitchen staff were sitting around on their phones while we were waiting for a refill on drinks but ended with the check because we knew it would take forever for another round of drinks. The check took 20 minutes. Highly disappointed but food and beverages were awesome as usual. Your front of the house of the staff desperately needs training or at least this waitress. At one point she said “oh sorry I’m half asleep.”

    I had the cauliflower, which was a bit blah. Then the pepperoni pizza, which was good. Nice and cheesy, plenty of pepperoni. Ask for Jorge to be your server. He's great!
