About the restaurant
We believe in living a clean, natural and organic lifestyle mirroring that of the old world, where people eat only local foods. Most of our ingredients are certified organic and we source from local farmers to promote sustainability. We want to showcase how fertile the Southern Oregon valley is and the amazing bounty available from local farmers.

We're excited to share our wine and food knowledge with Southern Oregon. We want to educate anyone willing to learn on wines of the world as well as how they compare to local wines. We will strive to constantly create new menu items and wine pairings.

Inventive, delicious dishes, albeit not on the generous side portionwise. So, the experience was exciting, but on the expensive side.

About the restaurant
Mushrooms are the heart of what we do at the Joel Palmer House. We have always endeavored to obtain seasonal and local ingredients and we use many locally produced greens, herbs, and vegetables, some of which come from our own culinary garden. We are frequently inspired by ingredients found in the cuisines of France, China, Thailand, Poland and India, so we call our cooking "freestyle." Our dishes pair well the celebrated wines of Oregon, especially Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. Our extensive, Oregon-focused wine list has been awarded the Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator. Of special note, The Joel Palmer House ranks as one of Oregon's finest historic homes and is on the National Register of Historic Places and the Oregon Historic Register. Built in 1857, the house is Dayton's oldest standing structure. When weather permits, guests can enjoy their dinner on our outdoor patio, soaking in the last rays of sunshine in the heart of Oregon Wine Country.

I enjoyed one of the most pleasurable meals of my life! The Joel Palmer House restaurant (and the historic mansion that houses it) has been on my bucket list for several years, since I started hunting mushrooms in Central Oregon. I finally made it over for my birthday, and the experience was worth the wait, the drive, & the heat. The staff carefully worked with my dietary restrictions, helped me select wines, but most impressive of all they showed great concern and care for my dogs in the heat. I am grateful for the special memories they blessed me with, and I've been raving to friends and fellow mushroom hunters about my dining adventure.

Stellar food, stellar wine list, stellar service. One of my all-time PDX favorites—a room for people who care about food and drink, without the superfluous fluff. A true gem that has held on over the years to earn every accolade I can throw at it.

Painted Lady had a sort of French Laundry vibe but without the elevated price tag. Food quality and presentation were excellent, and Service was impeccable.

Delicious food! We loved all we had especially the three starters we shared (tuna, shrimp & ceviche). Wines were unusual and fantastic.
