Enjoyed a Birthday Dinner at one of my favorite local restaurants, Bistro Daisy. Special Soup of the day was Yellow Pepper and Shrimp, easily the best soup I’ve ever had! Lamb Shank with mint and herb risotto was excellent; glad I had a hearty appetite to finish it all. The Baked Alaska is my favorite dessert, though the Crème Brûlée I sampled from a dinner companion was also mighty good. Highly recommended address, can’t wait to go back!

Covington
About the restaurant
Open since October of 1990, The Dakota has been a pioneer in the culinary industry on the Northshore of Lake Pontchartrain. Their cuisine is influenced by the flavorful Creole cuisine, with Contemporary Louisiana. Other influences include the Southwest, California, and Asia using fresh local and seasonal ingredients.
The carefully selected wines pay tribute to the well crafted wines of North America while offering many of the traditional Old World styles of Europe.
In October of 2023, The Dakota moved to its new location in Historic Downtown Covington...just a block from the iconic Southern Hotel.
The Dakota continues to set the mark for what people look for when they dine – well crafted food, detail-oriented service, plush surroundings, and genuine hospitality.

We went to The Dakota for our anniversary. Positives: the food was good but not amazing; our table server was absolutely amazing; the ambience is very pretty although we were in a smaller room and it’s not as lovely as the rest of the restaurant; the cocktails were really good and generous; the prices were not outrageous. Negatives: we had a reservation and still had to wait 30 minutes for a table; the bartender took our order, did not make our drinks; walked away and started doing other things and then forgot what we had ordered; the specialty soup was really bland and the bone marrow bones seemed a little old; they seemed to be out of a few things. It’s a good restaurant and worth a visit. I don’t think I would go back for a special occasion but maybe for a regular dinner-out evening.

Loved the ambience and the food. The waiter offered great suggestions ( when we asked her) and we really liked the great-yet manageable menu choices. This chef knows what he(or she?) is doing!

Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.

We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.

We visited this restaurant for our anniversary. The food and drinks were delicious. Our meals consisted of the red fish special, pork chop special, the pasta and a filet. Along with the tuna appetizer, chicken and andouille gumbo and creme brulee dessert and the chocolate dessert. The restaurant was packed and it was very loud, but our server was great. Food came out promptly. We only had to wait for drinks, but considering how busy they were, it was understandable. Next time we are in the Hammond area, we plan to dine again! Definitely worth the money!

Very nice Sunday brunch. Cold day so didn’t get to enjoy the veranda view. Carpeting would make the ambience feel warmer. I was hoping for more egg dish Brunch choices but all good.
