La Cantera
About the restaurant
*2024 Michelin Recommended*

If you find yourself dreaming of the Texas Hill Country, savory comforts, spice, and the sultry depth of a fine Burgundy, you’ll be pleased to know about Signature at La Cantera Resort & Spa.

The menu is straightforward and beguiling, featuring contemporary interpretations of classic dishes — fresher, brighter versions of traditional cuisine enlivened with unconventional Texas spirit. Gulf seafood conspires with Atlantic Coast oysters flown in fresh, and the Hill Country is well-represented year-round. Local and organic ingredients change the menu as the seasons peak and wane, but the constants are quality, flavor, artistry in the kitchen and a warm welcome when you walk in the door.

Visited for my fiancee’s birthday dinner. Service was awesome (thanks Josh!). Great ambiance in the restaurant and they have a pianist playing. Lobster fondue appetizer was a bit watery for my taste. We both had 14oz ribeyes with a side of mashed potatoes, which was all fantastic. For desert we had a blueberry lime yogurt gelato and a coconut pie slice. The gelato flavor wasn’t my favorite but the coconut pie was really good. Their alcoholic beverages were nice and strong. I wish the restaurant would do something for special dinners though (I had added a note in the reservation saying it was a bday).

Dean’s Steakhouse is a great restaurant and a jewel in San Antonio - the only reason we gave it a 4 is that the service to our table was subpar. And I stress our table, as we noted better service at nearby tables. Set in a hotel and touted to have been an old schoolhouse, the restaurant is elegant and contemporary. Love the ambiance. The items we ordered - especially the steaks - were cooked to perfection. The appetizer - oysters Rockefeller were delicious. Neither my husband nor I are big eaters so we only ordered a vegetable as a side. The only negative was the service. It took at least 10 minutes before our waiter arrived at our table after we’d been seated. While we noticed the table next to us was attended to promptly. The waiter seemed put out that we chose not to order either one of their signature cocktails or a bottle of wine (we had enjoyed cocktails earlier and didn’t want a whole bottle) and after that we seemed to get even less attention. He appeared to be even less pleased with the quantity of food ordered. It was disappointing as we were celebrating our 25th anniversary and I had wanted an especially lovely evening.

My wife and I enjoy fine dining and I can say without a doubt that Dorrego’s was one of the finest dining experiences we have had to date. Everything from the enbiance, the service and of course the food itself was not just great, but extrodinary. I give my highest recommendation to dine here and I would like to compliment the entire staff at this establishment for superior service and a great time. We will be back for sure.
