About the restaurant
Clandestino is the moody sister of Tac/Quila. Serving elevated and fresh Mexican food. Located right next to the Marilyn Monroe statue in downtown Palm Springs. The restaurant is headed by Chef Gustavo Carreon who has worked diligently to create a menu that highlights the best that his home country has to offer. Some Clandestino exclusives include crab enchiladas in a creamy artichoke sauce, stuffed squash blossoms and cochinita pibil.

Great location with a view of the Marilyn Monroe statue from their outside seating area. The place has a lovely ambiance, calming, with lots of attention to details such as the plates (black), the cutlery, etc. I ordered a Guava Margarita and can honestly say it was really good with a little hint of smokiness from the salted rim. The Ahi Tuna Taco was lovely with lots of toppings and fresh ginger. My only comment was that the sweet chili sauce should be on the side so that customers can decide how sweet they want their dish to be. My husband had the chicken fajitas which he absolutely loved and devoured.

I think there was a lack in servers because no one served us more water till we were almost finished with dinner. We asked two people for another glass of wine that did not come, so we had it cancelled, since we were done eating. Otherwise, it was our first time there and the food was delicious, well-prepared.

About the restaurant
Our business model is unusual for the restaurant industry. We believe that if we invest in the best possible ingredients and people, and focus our resources on presentation and environment, our customers will recognize the difference and will be excited to return and share their experience with others. We believe that a cocktail should be the creative expression of its author, and that a good meal must be an artistic blend of flavor, aroma and color. A true dining experience should involve an awakening of all of the senses and we hope to bring this delight to our guests...again, and again, and again.

Reservations can be made only by calling the restaurant at (760) 417-4471.

We were kindly greeted and seated quickly, we arrived early but they accommodated us right away. The man taking our order was very nice and kept saying no rush but did come back several times to check on us but since I’m on vacation I wanted to take my time and enjoy the beautiful Margarita, so I did feel a bit rushed but he was very sweet and happy to answer any questions we had about the menu. The salsa was incredible, some of the best I’ve had and I’m a salsa lover so that’s saying a lot. The pablano shredded chicken enchiladas with mole sauce was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my entire life, and I’m 54 and a foodie who loves to cook, I usually make better enchiladas than i get out, so this was a gamble, but so worth it- this is an amazing dish. I mean the sauce has just the right amount of heat with a touch of sweet and the texture of the sauce was beautiful, with every bite you’re looking forward to the next one , it was an explosion of flavor! Complex and yet simple and straightforward, a true comfort food! I’ll be craving these for sure! Guacamole, chips, rice and of course the giant margaritas along with the extremely beautiful ambiance of the restaurant made this an experience rather than just a meal. If only I didn’t live 10 hours away I’d return here frequently. But I’ll be back!

A soulful new take on modern Mexican cuisine. Taking its cue from the Spanish word meaning “undergrowth” or “from the earth,” Maleza is an all-day restaurant and bar rooted in an earthy rusticity offset with airy Palm Springs ease.

Headed up by Executive Chef Ysaac Ramirez, Maleza serves up a Mexican-inspired share plate experience unlike anything else offered in the desert. The indoor/outdoor bar, led by Beverage Manager Nick Turner, features an extensive list of rare mezcals, craft cocktails, and a curated list of non-alcoholic cocktails, beers, and wines. Excellent creative offerings. Great sweet potato, halibut and calamari plates. Marred by a very loud six women birthday party and inattentive service

About the restaurant
Our dream began in late 2014, long before we became the "Best Mexican Restaurant in San Juan Capistrano". It began inside a 17- foot food truck with the burning desire to change the way guests perceived food truck cuisine to be we have always believed that Mexican food should be MORE! More complex, modern, enjoyable and healthier for our bodies.

such a good dinner my server recommended the shrimp tacos (I’d had the Baja fish tacos and the short rib tacos) and he was absolutely right. They were spicy and delicious. The salsa is my favorite in the valley. Can’t wait to go back
