The owner seated each patron giving advice on ordering in order to get to the symphony on time. Food was delicious especially chicken with crab meat. Will definitely go again.
Everything was excellent and it was even packed due to an event at The Lyric. I really should have given it 5 stars rather than 4 stars because our main course was very good, but the salad had so much dressing that it lost its crispness and freshness (a pet peeve of mine), but it was still good! It was very noisy but in their defense, it was completely full, we were upstairs and there was a nearby table of 5 or 6 men that had one too many glasses of wine! We would definitely go back again!
On our way to a concert. Had early reservations (5:15pm) at Sammy's. We were seated quickly and attended to within moments. Good food, good service - kudos.
Amazing food! Meatballs we’re excellent- some of the best I’ve ever had. Salmon was delicious and the linguine puttanesca was outrageously good. Everything was excellent! I will make sure to visit again!
Sammy's is hard to get into—especially on a weekend—for good reason: the food. The food is good because it is prepared to order with quality ingredients. Simple. Service is quick (even when the restaurant is busy), courteous (although somewhat matter-of-fact) and friendly. The waitstaff does make its customers feel welcome and appreciated. As far as the food: order anything; it will be first rate, just like the veal, the salads and the martinis. Am eager to return.
Great waitress!! Food was wonderful!
close to Myerhoff pre BSO concert, prompt delivery. good pasta dishes. Booked 6 pm reservation out at 730 nice timing for relaxed dinner
My husband and I are regulars for pre symphony dining. However, our most recent experience was initially disappointing. The menu had been "condensed"
to a limited number of offerings, and our seafood favorite was not offered to folks heading out to a concert. When we inquired, our server said, "If you are going to a show, you can’t have the flounder" After pressing the issue, she acquiesced. This was not the experience we have come to expect over the years...
The last two times we have been to Sammy’s have been for events at the Meyerhof, and we have barely made it out in time for our event, despite a reservation 2 hours prior. Food is reliable and good.
The food came out quickly and tasted wonderful. We made out show in plenty of tome!
We have always enjoyed Sammy’s when we attend the Baltimore Speaker Series. We get there at 5pm when they open, so we can get our order in early before the rush and enjoy a nice relaxing drinks, dinner and conversation with friends. The service is excellent and the food is perfect. We really enjoy beginning our evening at Sammy’s.
Host was wonderful. Very attentive.
We were there for dinner after the BSO concert and our party ended up being 6 people. The service was great, the food was delicious, the care we were given was outstanding and our guests were very impressed. I got to see Sammy for a few minutes too. What more can you ask!
Second time at Sammy's and I continue to be impressed with the varied selections of entrees for the BSO crowd. The food was served in an appropriate amount of time for it being freshly made. And, hot. Another of my criteria. I will return and urge others to do so or to try this restaurant. A neighborhood gem within walking distance to the Meyerhoff.
No matter how often our family and friends dine here we have the most enjoyable evening. We always look forward to Sammy’s. It is awesome. Always.
This is a nice solid Italian restaurant where the food is consistent and taste like Sunday supper. It gets noisy which diminishes the experience but the quality of food makes this a restaurant worth trying.
I have been here many times and think of it as one of my top ten go to restaurants in Baltimore.
Sammy's never disappoints. Food is always the best Italian around and they had live dinner music. Place was busy and everyone had smiles on their faces. The duck ravioli is to die for.
Best veal parm in Baltimore.
Everything about Sammy's was fantastic. We had a window seat in the upper floor where we could also overlook the balcony to the downstairs. For food, we started with the prosciutto bruschetta which tasted great. I got the veal milanese, my girlfriend got the penne alla vodka. Our server was a young guy who was very attentive and had very good pacing for his visits. My girlfriend loved going there so much that she's already asking me to take her back.
Sammy's was a real treat. Excellent food, get service and a fun atmosphere. We loved it and will be back.
Great spot...would recommend. Staff is terrific and food great
Always a delicious and delightful!
Outstanding food, location and setting. They were really busy so food came out a little slow. But the taste was worth the wait...
Dinner before Jim Gaffigan show....so glad we picked Sammy’s Trattoria! It was perfect!
Amazing food and service. We had tickets to the symphony and our server ensured our food came promptly but not rushed. Fabulous evening.
We visited before a show and the food/service was excellent. We'll return some time so we can take our time to savor the experience.
We always enjoy Sammy's, particularly in nights before the BSO concerts. Food is delicious, reasonably priced, with friendly service. We always feel welcomed. The location is terrific.
We went to Sammy's before a show at Meyerhoff-great location for dinner prior to a show at that venue; just a short walk to the theater and the parking garage. It is my new go-to place before going to the symphony. They seated us right away and the restaurant is geared to making sure people get out in time for the show if you let them know you are attending. The food was excellent--I had the duck ravioli which was perfect. The pasta was homemade, the filling substantial and delicious, the sauce was perfectly portioned--just the right amount to give that extra taste and seasoning without drenching or overwhelming the pasta. So good. The calamari and arugula salad were wonderful starters, with the calamari tender but not overly breaded as in many restaurants with some absolutely wonderful green peppers and red onions mixed it-certainly not a usual mix with calamari but really a highlight of the dish (and the sauce-you'll want to just eat it with a spoon). The espresso-also wonderful. Desserts are a bit lackluster-choices were pound cakes (lemon or pistachio), chocolate cake or cannoli; tried the pound cake--good but nothing to write home about. The atmosphere is nice and not overly pretentious-has an upgraded neighborhood feel; kitchen exposed so that's interesting. Our waitress was not particularly friendly, very matter of fact, but was efficient and quick--a little too quick with our entrees coming out well before we finished our appetizers. (I think part of the "get you out for the show quick" mode but we were there at 5:45 so had more than sufficient time without pushing it quite so hard). But overall, a wonderful dining experience and I'll definitely be going back.
Reasons I love Sammy's
1. The ambiance. The main reason that I return to Sammy's again and again is the ambiance and friendly people when sitting at the bar. The food is terrific, but the bartenders (especially Paul) are fantastic, both as mixologists and conversationalists. No one is ignored. And there are always friendly people at the bar, happy to engage in conversation with their neighbors.
2. The drinks. A good wine list, and servers/bartenders who can recommend wine and food pairings. Cocktails. Whether it's an Aperol spritzer, a gin & tonic, a martini, or an old fashioned, it's always good.
3. The food (of course). I always have a hard time making a decision. The broccoli raab and sausage appetizer is delicious, as is the lasagne with eggplant and broccoli raab. The Julia salad is one of my go-to items. Most recently I had the duck ravioli, perfect pockets of pasta with duck and a light sauce. And the pappardelle bolognese made with boar, pork, and veal was a proper bolognese. The sauce did not overwhelm the pasta, as is so often the case. Other memorable dishes include pasta with clam sauce (white), and the best pizza. Sadly the pizza has not been on the dinner menu recently.
Stopped in for dinner after a show at BSO Meyerhoff, a very convenient, short walk away. Sammy's Trattoria is a traditional Italian restaurant with good food prepared in traditional recipes, and a couple surprises, like Duck Ravioli, which we split as an appetizer. The scallops with the Risotto was done just right and the chicken Marsala did not disappoint. Made for a lovely evening in downtown Baltimore.
We had a reservation and were quickly seated in the lower level. This level is less crowded and not as loud as the upstairs.
We were waited on quickly and the wait staff was attentive. The food is always great.
Would highly recommend.
One of our diners got the Sally Salad, always a great choice. The bread and dipping oil were delicious. The chicken piccata was mediocre, and we were charged $5 for sharing. We believe the waitress should have given us a heads up, as we've never been charged a sharing fee there before. If told, it may have affected how we ordered. When questioned, our server replied that it's written on the menu. However, I did not see it!
Service was ok, considering we was only one couple out of two in the restaurant for lunch. Only real issue I have is that the food had no flavor, no flavor at all. Use spices please
My favorite Italian restaurant. Love everything on the menu Wait staff are the greatest people like family
(if your family happens to be Italian). I get to Baltimore City 6-7 times a year and this is the only place I want to eat!
Best gnocchi I have ever had! And super attentive staff.
Booked reservation for two hours prior to a show as recommended by the restaurant. Waited almost 45 minutes for appetizers and an hour for food. Waiter seemed to be overwhelmed and had to be flagged down for drink refills. Food was great but rushed through meal to make the show. Waiter offered to have us speak to a manager but manger never approached our table.
Finally it would have been nice to know that the restaurant was only offering a show menu not full menu.
I understand that there aren't many restaurants in the area of the Meyerhoff and Lyric, and that everyone wants to eat and make a curtain at the same time. But we felt rushed through dinner from beginning to end. We were told both by the host and our waitress that we should order quickly if we wanted to get out in time -- despite the fact that we got there at 5:45. Two hours should be enough time for dinner! We had barely had a mouthful of salad before our entrees were plopped down -- and they were lukewarm at best. The pasta was stone cold. What a miserable experience. We won't be back.
Food and service is always excellent. Paulie the bartender was very welcoming. We had the Judge Ks veal and Norwegian Salmon...good portions and excellent. Overall, we had a very nice evening.
I took my girlfriend and her parents to Sammy's for dinner. We got wonderful suggestions from our server and everybody absolutely loved to their meals. Wine pairing suggestions were also right on point. Seems to be half the price of many spots in Little Italy. Great value for money. I definitely recommended it.
Great food with impeccable service! Loved my first experience and will be back. Josh was awesome!
