Love the food but service was spotty because the room was full and there were not enough servers. We had to ask for more water 3 times and waited more than 20 minutes to get it. Waitress did not properly record my companion's order and we had to wait for the correct order to be delivered. I loved the fact that the menu gives the option of getting sauteed spinach in place of pasta with traditional pasta dishes like Seafood Fra Diavlo. When I made the reservation I stated that it was a birthday celebration but waitress said or did nothing special for it although the Hostess mentioned it when she greeted us.
Outstanding Food and Service. Served the table with hot bread, with an amazing olive oil and cheese. My wife accidentally spilled oil in her drink, which the restaurant replaced for free. Veal Parmigiana was delicious and very tender. Server also recommended a family style salad. Afterwards, the server gave us free desert. Truly an great restaurant. Will be back again.
Great place to go with family. The food is excellent. The staff makes you feel at home. This has become our place to go for special celebrations! Love it here.
Love the food, service and ambience.
Sammy has succeeded building this restaurant and food service excellence.
We discovered Sammy’s a few years ago. For Mother’s Day my wife wanted to go to dinner where the food and service would be excellent. I decided to take her to Sammy’s. They were on point!! Our server was attentive and engaging. We started with fried and fresh mozzarella. Each of the 2 appetizers we fabulous! We followed up the apps with a house salad. A perfect blend of dressing and parm cheese that took our salad to another level. For our main courses my wife went with the chicken parm, I went for the veal parm, each with a side of pasta. The veal melted in my mouth and went perfect with the red sauce. My wife’s chicken parm was equally as perfect. For dessert we decided on the Limoncello poundcake. All I can say is WOW...it was a perfect choice to end our meal. Sammy’s does it right. Do yourself a flavor, go to Sammy’s, you’re taste buds will love it!!
The service was excellent. We were seated immediately at the time of reservations. The Acia mule was an excellent libation. The house salad was enough for two. The salmon was excellent. The seafood combination was over spinach better than over pasta for me.
It's been a few months since we dined at Sammy's-our last experience fell short of Sammy's prior standards.
With that, we were hopeful for improvement on this visit. And the team delivered!
Sam provided exceptional friendly and helpful service! His timing was on point as was his suggestion on the bottle of Chianti!
The food was terrific! Fresh and flavorful! Thanks to the kitchen staff!
We are looking forward to our next dinner at Sammy's
Have been to Sammy’s many times over the years and never disappointed. The food and service are always outstanding. A wonderful restaurant with great vibes.
Top Notch. Our server Char was a pro—efficient, responsive, courteous and happy managing a big party. Thank you.
The food, service and ambiance were all outstanding. The maintre d’ Steve was warm, welcoming and eager to please.
The food was very oily, the duck ravioli in particular. The fish francese wasn't very fresh. and the waitress was quite brassy with us, made us hurry up. The bread and salads were good.
We took a bus in from DC for a 7pm show and arrived later than expected. The waiter was honest with us upfront that we wouldn't make our show in time if we sat down for a full dinner. Instead, he personally made us the most amazing salad I've had in my life (called the Julia), gave us bread with the most outstanding dipping sauce made of oil, herbs and cheese, and we split a bottle of wine. Amazing service and food. 10/10 would recommend.
Sammy's has just become our favorite Italian restaurant!
A very strange experience. We made the reservation over 3 weeks ago and when we arrived they were not sure where to seat us. They offered a free glass of wine if we agreed to sit at the bar. We are not going back.
Sammy’s has always done a great job! The food is awesome. I usually order the Veal and my wife orders the salmon...always excellent. The service is excellent especially given the team is addressing a surge of people in advance of the Baltimore Speaker Series events. We always try to get there early and have always enjoyed our evening at Sammy’s. I really appreciate how accommodating and welcoming Steve and Pauli are. Well Done again...thank you.
Very good—everything homemade
Went with a group of 8. When we arrived it was eerily quiet, only one table with a couple wrapping up their meal (it was the night before Easter). Because of that some of the folks in my party were a bit hesitant BUT those folks at Sammy's showed they knew was Italian cooking was all about. We ordered a good variety of food and everything came out hot and delicious, from the sausage & pepper appitizer to the lamb ravioli to the alfredo to the scallop risotto all the way to some yummy pistachio pound cake for dessert. The bartender is on point, the food is awesome and the people are great. Will definitely go back!
Food was great and waitress was outstanding. The cocktails were amazing.
On an evening ahead of a BSO concert the dining room was full, noisy and chaotic. Wait staff seemed disorganized and service was slow because of it. Food was unexceptional, except for the antipasti which was very good.
The food, as usual, was excellent and the staff was attentive. We love this gem!
Always a great dining experience. One of our favorite places in Mt Vernon.
Our first visit to this restaurant and a remarkable experience. Food, service ambience... everything about the place was perfect
Great food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff that were dealing with a full house.
Second visit and both experiences were wonderful. Highly recommend this to all.
Sammy's if a fun spot within walking distance to the Meyerhoff Symphony Concert Hall. The upstairs was bustling when we arrived (at 5:45), but we were led to the downstairs dining room, hat was rather austere. There were only 2 other tables there with us. If for any other occasion, we would not have wanted to sit there, but it was pre-show, so we needed to move along.
The house wines ....cab and chianti...were very good and the pours are healthy! The calamari had a few too many peppers, and was a bit salty. The pasta entrees were really good. We had the duck ravioli, papparadelle bolognese and gnocchi with sage/mushroom. My husband said his Manhattan was good too!!
As always, dinner at Sammy's Trattoria was exceptional. The food is prepared with fresh ingredients and Sammy's original family recipes are the best this side of Italy. We love the salad, sausage and pepper appetizer and the papperadelle bolognese is excellent. Sammy's has a welcoming family atmosphere and the staff is friendly and accommodating. Sammy's will always be our go to place when dining in Baltimore. Highly recommended.
Food was excellent! Service staff was very helpful, and recommended certain dishes on the menu. This was my third visit to Sammy's Trattoria, and will be back again!
I’ve been coming to Sammy’s for years. I love the staff and the food is always excellent. Never a single bad experience. Great location and ambience. I highly recommend it to all my friends and family.
Didn't even get a chance to eat at Sammy's. We showed up 1.5 hours before our show at the symphony and the servers told us we better get our orders in quick because it would take at least an hour(!) to get our food, and we should have arrived at 5:30 to eat before the 8 pm show. So we walked out.
I understand there being a rush prior to show time, but you make reservations so the restaurant can prepare for there being a large crowd, and therefore create reasonable wait times. An hour for food is never acceptable unless you're at a 5 course meal and it's the 4th course.
But not on a night there was a show at the Meyerhoff
Thank you to Renee our serving for making the evening go so perfectly!
The food was outstanding. The red sauce has just the right amount of acidity. The duck ravioli was delicious and fresh. The only thing that prevents me from giving a perfect score is that the food took 45 minutes to arrive. It was very busy, there were only three cooks and the waiter handled it very well, but there needed to be at least one other person in the kitchen to push the food out. All that being said, this was the best meal I've had in months and it was well worth the wait. Would definitely recommend.
This was our first time at Sammy's and we would return again. I had the Pappardelle alla Bolognese (combination of wild boar, veal, and pork that was extremely good, and huge! My husband had veal Marsala, which he also loved. The veal came with a lot of Marsala sauce. I started off with an arugula salad- the dressing was non-decript. The bread was warm, but not that crunch crust I like from an Italian bakery. Its 3 minutes from the Symphony Hall, so very convenient if you're going there. I requested a quiet table, and the Maitre d' reserved a quiet corner by the window for us. Unfortunately 3 couples had two really loud hooting women nearby,... oh well! Go you'll enjoy the food!
Food was great as well as the staff. Very friendly and attentive.
The appetizer and main dish took a while to come out. The main course came out about an hour after we were seated. My chicken parm was average and the "melted mozzarella" was not actually melted. The cheese was still cold as well as some of the chicken breast. At this point, I didn't feel like arguing because we had a show to make at the Lyric.
Got to the restaurant at 6:00pm. Ordered our food by 6:20pm. Received our meals at 7:25pm. The server dropped our good I. Front of us like she was irritated. It was not a pleasant experience.
Food and service are OK but the place needs a good cleaning and some updating. Everything is sticky--the door to the bathroom, the hallway going down or upstairs including the banister look and feel dirty. The kitchen door is open and you see the mess in the kitchen. It gives you an impression that it isn't the cleanest or most sanitary place to eat.
Our server played Host, bartender and server. How she did it I’ll never know. They are lucky to have her
