I am not paid to write this review and I rarely write reviews
Chef Claude delivers a stellar trip to france at EVERY price point.
We chose to dine at One65 Bistro on the recommendation of open table. We got the prix fixe 3 course menu.
I had the salmon and ratatouille and the duck with smoked figs and the raspberry clafloutis. Tremendous value for money. The first bite of the smoked figs transported me to fine dining experiences I have had in France like the chèvre d’Or. And this is a Bistro! My husband had the tomato’s and fish and shrimp quenelles which were delightful. But he got the peach Melba dessert and that was exquisite.
The service and attention to detail at the Bistro is at the level of a fine dining experience. Chef Claude, who has a wiki page and numerous awards including the Michelin star at the restaurant 2 floors above- is visible on the floor in the Bistro ensuring guests are well attended. Just wow.
The table at the kitchen is the best seat in the house, you can see the craft with which each dish is prepared and the discipline of the team.
I was so elated by my dinner I came back THE NEXT MORNING for breakfast at the Patisserie on the first floor. The raspberry chocolate croissant is to die for- eat it with a friend it is huge. The eggs Benedict were excellent. There are dry goods and items like olive oil and Rillettes! If I could have emptied my suitcase and filled it with the pastries and chocolates- that are made ON SITE on the second floor - I would have.
And the pricing at this cafe is the SAME OR BETTER than lesser quality venues around town.
I have not experienced this level of value in a dining experience- ever. I will 100% try the fine dining experience when I return to SF.
