Located at the corner of Bellair and Cumberland, the little yellow house has "seen it all" from the early hippie movement of the 60"s to the lack of movement that comes from too much Bordeaux. It was Sunday and they offer only brunch. But luckily burger on menu for partner and pancakes daughter said were great tasting. I enjoyed the egg white omelet with quinoa salad.

Beautiful afternoon spent at Sassafraz. I made a request for a round table in the back room. We arrived 1 hour early and they still honoured that request. Service was wonderful. The food, delicious. It's a little pricey but not unreasonable for Yorkville. It felt more like an experience than just lunch.

Generally superb cuisine, attentive service and elegant ambiance, slightly marred this time by a lukewarm entree, having to remind staff about our wine and drinks order which didn't arrive until after the appetizers were finished and a misunderstood dessert substitution. Still a lovely restaurant, but a little disappointing considering the price point and reputation.

Great food and service, but we were a surprised that even with an Open Table reservation, they didn’t have a table in the dining room for us. We had to seat ourselves at the ‘cafe’ side. Our server was great and made up for the situation and the food was delicious, generous portions and flavourful.

Wonderful meal, superb service, location & modern decor to boot! Food was not really as creative or tasty as other trips to the restaurant (Huge emphasis on barley on the current menu), still very good, just not outstanding. I will come back, this is a family staple and we generally dine at Sassafraz twice a year.

Poor service was the main problem
Had to return one entre and it came back wrong
Also ordered champagne which was forgotten

Husband and I went here for brunch this past weekend and chose to sit in the cafe area on the couches. It was a very snowy day so I imagine this is why it was quite empty (Id expected itnto be busier). We tried the steak and eggs and lobster croque madame. Husband found the steak to be undercooked. However the rest of the food was very good. The service was good as well. Didnt have to wait very long for food and the server checked in frequently making sure everything was ok with the meal.
The only grievance I have is that the website doesn't specify that the weekend brunch is an all day thing. We'd actually gone in at 1:30 pm expecting to have lunch. However we learned that they only have a brunch menu until 5 pm when thet switch to dinner. We were already there so decided to try out the items from the brunch menu, as I said above. I'm interested to try lunch or dinner here perhaps at a later time.

A last minute decision to go to Sassafraz during Winterlicious. Excellent food, a large choice (compared to other Winterlicious venues), reasonably priced wine.

This restaurant has been on my bucketlist for quite a while and it didn't disappoint.

Went for date night and the space was amazing. Loved the vaulted ceiling in the dining area and the waterfall. Food was on point. I had the lamb meatballs as a starter lamb shoulder as a main and a selection of cheeses for desert. Meatballs were amazing. The lamb shoulder was literally a melt in your mouth experience.... However, the cheese selection (note to self don't ever, EVER order blue cheese again) wasn't my thing. It was a winterlicious prix fix selections.

I highly recommend this restaurant especially for those romantic date nights 😁

Visited During Winterlicious. As usual Sassafraz, unlike some other Winterlicious venues, does not offer smaller portions because of Winterlicious prices. Food is delicious and while you have appetizer, entree & dessert included, you might be better off to have the cheese tray dessert ( ok charcuterie) with your wine/appetizer so that the flavours of the entrees are the final flavours that you experience. Just delicious. Missing some of the senior staff this year who had service done to a fine art, maybe it was just a one off. Beautiful atmosphere. Casual or Special Occasion- well worth a visit. A Toronto favourite. Still.

I had to ask for a clean tablecloth. For that we changed table and had the server mixed up when bringing our food.
One piece of fish was hardly cooked but I had another plate brought to me.
Everything was corrected but I expected better from that restaurant. Maybe winterlicious changes few things...

I ordered from the Winterlicious menu, and I must say this place doesn’t disappoint. I had the duck pate, veal chop and cheesecake.
The pate tasted amazing, but I think the portion of the pate is a bit too much, would love the dish even more it came with more sides to complement the taste of the pate.
Veal chop itself was very well done, but the risotto was too hard.
Cheesecake was alright, not exceptional but not terrible as well.
Overall the ambiance is great and service was mediocre, probably because I went on a very busy night.
