Excellent service. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and full of good humour. Food was promptly served and so fresh and tasty. We were very happy that the seating allowed for private conversation.
We had the duck and Cornish hen, both were great! Very nice atmosphere and service.
Unfortunately took forever to get the bill (15+ minutes), otherwise the food and ambience was great.
This is a place my boys and I love to go when we feel like having a special brunch. Imthe good, ambiance and location give it that extra special feel.
I chose Sassafraz for a special occasion dinner with my best friend who was visiting from out of town. I have had good experiences here in the past and the location was perfect to show her a lovely area of the city and a beautiful restaurant. While the food was delicious, I cannot stress enough how deeply disappointed we were with the level of service we received. We had an 8:00 reservation, for which we arrived on time. We were greeted promptly by our server and provided waters, but then watched as our server ignored our table for the next 20-25 minutes while serving people that came after us, cleared empty tables and touched base with every other table in his section aside from us. When we finally flagged him down to order drinks and our dinner, it took another 15-20 minutes to even receive a glass of wine and one cocktail. It was 840 when we finally received our drinks. The food was delicious, but again, we had to get our servers attention to get drink refills. When it came to ordering dessert, my friend ordered a glass of prosecco while I ordered a dessert and my food came far before her drink arrived. At this point I should note it was after 10:00pm and the restaurant was virtually empty and the bar was not busy. While the food and ambiance of Sassafraz make for an enjoyable experience, the service left us with a terrible taste in our mouths and made for a disappointing evening.
Were very good a accommodating my celiac condition and allowing us to share meals.
The new décor is lovely. The menu (lunch) was fun and very tasty. Our service was exceptional. Sassafraz has be re-invented, again. It gets better every time.
Our service was amazing. Food and drinks were beautifully presented and delicious. Thank you! I’ll be back. :)
It took a while to be greeted by the front staff. The service was good but a bit awkward. During the meal I was called by the restaurant to see if we were coming for our reservation. Food was good, if not a bit under seasoned. Overall a nice night out with a few miscues.
I made a note on reservation that the dinner is for my father-in-law’s birthday, and requested a table we’d like to be seated. When we arrived there, yes, we were directed to the table we wanted. As there was no mention of the birthday in the beginning from our server, i thought maybe they forgot. When dessert dish came out, there was a lighted candle with ‘Happy Birthday’ writing on our birthday man’s plate. It was definitely surprising and exceptional service. :)
Our family made good comments on beef tartare, King Cole duck breast and tenderloin.
Sassafraz always exceeds our expectations. Warmly welcomed upon arrival, seated at a great table and engaging conversation with the service team. We dined for Summerlicious - lots of selection, the portions were well-sized (great value!) and delicious. Will be back again soon!
Summerlicious at Sassafraz was excellent value for those of us who value quality over quantity.
waitress never came back....... she forgot about us like we never excisted in first place.....
Poor service - waited very long to have our order taken (other tables that came after us had their orders in before us), the bill took very long to get to our table and our bill came and there were erroneous items on it
The presentation and flavour was great. Our server was cordial and prompt. Overall, we had a wonderful time at Sassafraz.
Went for dinner the other night for my birthday and it was sensational!
The meal was great, from appetizer, to main, to dessert.
And for the venue, we were pleasantly surprised by the food portions and options to choose from for summerlicious. Will definitely return again. Wine options were great as well. :)
My fiance and I went on a summerlicious date here, and it was delicious! Every course was a delight, and my main was cooked to perfection. Really enjoyed where we were situated in the restaurant, the ambiance of the waterfall wall, and the service was wonderful. Didn't rush us, allowed us to enjoy cocktails for a while before placing our order. The summerlicious menu was great!
The food was surprisingly mediocre and the portions were small for the price. Service was terrible - the dining area was clearly short-staffed and it took approximately 2 hours to get from the appetizer to the dessert during a lunch service. Our server often neglected to follow-up with us and I had to walk to the front of the restaurant in order to have someone come to our table. That was my first (and last) visit to Sassafraz.
We thought the Summerlicious food was wonderful with lots of options and at great value. The restaurant is pretty and still trendy and our waiter was very gracious. I mentioned how much I enjoyed it to friends who have been in the past. Can't wait to return!
We participated in Summerlicious. My meal was very good but my friend found an elastic band in her salmon. Her meal was comped of course. I'm not certain if I would return. Things do happen as I am well aware. The noise level was VERY annoying. Perhaps sitting outside and dealing with the construction noise would have been better.
Over crowded and no service at all. Waited 15 mins for the waiter to come pick up the plres
The setup was really nice! My only complaint would be that my entree was a little on the salty side :(
The caesar salad my sister received was a bit unexpected, as it was somewhat deconstructed, not much of an issue usually but the taste of caesar was non-existant. The meatballs I received however, were excellent.
For the main course we both got the chicken which was absolutely amazing, the mushrooms it came with had so much flavour. My only issue is that I have a dietary restriction in which I can't eat grains, I asked to possibly have more vegetables instead of the grains it comes with (there were no entrees that contained no grains) and was promptly told "no substitutions" without a second thought.
We both enjoyed our desserts thoroughly as well, I had the cheese plate, which surprisingly made for a delicious end to the meal.
Our service was, okay... Overall dining took an hour and a half, which is a bit on the later end considering it took 45 minutes to receive our appetizer after we ordered, then everything came in quick succession. Our waitress seemed uninterested in our table, most likely due to the fact that my sister and I are younger in age.
Overall it was a satisfactory experience.
A very good wine list, though I'm not a wine drinker. Sassafraz has a prime location in Yorkville to see or be seen. The service on the patio was unhurried, but I'm not sure why anyone would be in a hurry to dish out the average tasting food that we received. As first-timers to Sassafraz, we were looking forward to the entire experience.
Opting for the regular menu on a Sunday afternoon over the "Summerlicious" offerings that brought us there, we were underwhelmed by the quality of food, and the patio that was shoehorned in along a very busy sidewalk. A table down the sidestreet with a view of the condo project under construction was not really what we expected. Neither were cold egg dishes, and a server that seemed to forget her whole section was there.
If you want to be seen, go to Sassafraz. If you want to people watch, perhaps go to Sassafraz. If you want "meh" food, go to Sassafraz.
Amazing restaurant! The food and service was next to none!!
One of our party had a dairy allergy.
Should accommodate allergies if possible.
Little choices to pick something that was dairy free.
The food and service was great but the meal felt rushed. The mains were coming out before we were finished appetizers. The waiter did apologize and explained that they were hosting a wedding and wanted to get dinner meals out of the kitchen.
I believe the head waiter treated us with VIP service. The food was so good all my plates were clean. This is not our first time here and we are sure there'll be plenty
I went to Sassafraz with my student for Summerlicious because I have never tried it before but have heard great things about it. The ambiance, food and service were excellent. It is definitely a good place to go for a special occasion but not for everyday dining. We had a great experience but did not see any movie stars!
This place is always amazing. Especially Food is so good !!!
I was there for the summerlicious very efficient service for a lunch time. The food was really good
Server was very kind and food was amazing.
At that time was my friend's birthday and she was really satisfied.
Great for people watching in the summer if you can snag a seat outside.
Food was excellent as always, consistent quality. Service was pretty good. Ambience was nice as usual. Took my parents here for Summerlicious and they enjoyed their meal. Duck breast, duck pate and beef tartare were really good.
Probably my favorite summer dining spot in Oakville. Food is always exceptional and well presented. Service is personal but not overbearing and you cannot best the ambiance with the windows open on a summer night! I love everything about this place.
We tried the summerlicious menu. It was good. However the kitchen service was really slow. It took us 2 hours for lunch.
Food and service was amazing. The place was fairly loud/energetic, but given it was a Friday night during summerlicious, it wasn’t unexpected. The restaurant itself is beautiful inside, would go again for a special occasion.
The food was excellent. Our waiter Ryan was amazing. Knowledgeable, funny and curtious
