Set in an array of Victorian rowhouses, Sassafraz has evolved through the decades to become a magical space in the heart of historic Yorkville. Located at the corner of Bellair and Cumberland, the little yellow house has "seen it all".View Private Dining Details
It was 40 minutes before our orders were even taken. The appetizers came quickly but the main entrees took a long time to come. I indicated when I made the reservation and again in the morning of the reservation that the dinner was for a birthday celebration. There was no candle on the dessert nor any mention of it through out the evening so I’m very disappointed.
the service needs to improve. quite slow for a lunch.
The food was fantastic and reasonably priced for the neighborhood. Loved the Cocktail menu!
Great location with a choice of energetic dining room or quieter casual area.
All very good but as with many restaurants today, wine a bit too expensive by thethe glass.
Our server Ryan was fantastic. He took very good care of us, and was very knowledgable about the menu.
Feta appetizer was lacking in taste where it could have used a spice or strong herb oil enhancement.
6oz tenderloin was perfect
1 1/2 Brussel sprouts? Not enough
Potatoe square was cold and unappetizing
Amazing food and service! Highly recommended for date nights!
Was lovely. Food could be a bit more generous but otherwise great.
Amazing service and delicious food!
our waitress Samantha was superb in every way. The restaurant is physically very pleasant. My good friend's father owned it in the 60's when it was Mr. Tony's.
Average. This restaurant is a nice atmosphere but not exactly making the Top 100 list. A bit expensive given the average quality of food. My fish was over cooked and there are better places at the same price point.
Great food and service! Definitely one of my fave restaurants in Toronto!
A simply wonderful lunch! From the warm welcome at the front to the creative and well-considered menu to our attentive and professional server (thank you, Georgia!), we thoroughly enjoyed our time at Sassafraz. Consistently fine dining!
The food is very good and our server Ryan was very entertaining. Love the ambience and the decor.
Booked for 630pm, Jan 6 2019. Dining room was fairly empty for timing. Had 4 set course meal we and ordered bottle of wine. Our apps were delicious especially the ceviche (which had amazing plantain chips) and the duck pate. Caesar salad does have whole anchovies lying on top which was somewhat surprised/disturbing for the guest who ordered it. Beef tartare is decent. Entrees selected: bison rib (delcious and large portion), Lamb shank (soft, tasty and decent portion) stuffed pasta (small but tasty and the hazelnuts gave it that nice touch) Halibut (was overcooked and was sent back and the 2nd attempt was much better but still overcooked slightly, broth is nice but the fish did not absorb any of it. Yes, i understand halibut is flavourless but it was as if they didn't season the fish at all). Dessert: chocolate bar and the spiced apples. Both were eaten in delight. Service was done before and during apps well but slowly diminishes as the restaurant becomes busier ( maybe 6-8 tables on top of us so not too many). Several times we were looking for refills of drinks or for plates to be taken away. No offer of coffee or tea to come with dessert which to me is a basic skills in service. Coat check we had to flag a waiter down to retrieve our items as the hostess(es) were elsewhere for a good 5 minutes. If we didn't have a fixed price menu I would have been disappointed in dining here at regular prices. Otherwise the value in the reduced costs and clean ambience helped me accept the experience.
The menu is great, food tastes exquisite. Groupon helps to make price affordable. Dessert is very good (many restaurants with great menu take it easy on dessert, but here it was a real compliment to end the great dinner). I wish they had a live music (like a quiet piane), and tables were not that close to each other.
The main dish could have a bigger side - it was a bit skimpy. And the plain 'bread and butter' for a starter - usually this class of restaurants have something more extravagant, like oil and vinegar, or some artisan breads. May be there is some if you pay a full price? - not sure. Overall - it's a great reatsaurant with a nice menu.
Expected a lot more. Food was very mediocre.
My Girls and I had a great time. The food was delicious. The service was great. Our server, Pierre, was attentive and funny. We had a blast and surely will return. Highly recommended
It was a bit too noisy at Sassafraz that night. It was hard to hear what my husband was saying without having to lean in. Our server was attentive at times because he had noticed that my husband did not finish the pate and asked the chef to bring him an extra soup. However, when it came to dessert, our server did not actually set our table prior to the dessert arriving, so we watched our ice cream melt as we tried to wave him over. Also, I had asked for the lemon creme caramel, but he had written the flourless chocolate for me as well. I didn't bother notifying him as he was quite preoccupied. I guess they must not have enough servers for the night with the bookings that they were taking. It was a little disappointing...
Lovely dinner! Excellent service! I would highly recommend Sassafraz to friends and family
Excellent food,choices,quality and service
Friendly service sirloin steak melt in your mouth. Fogo island fish and chips great choice as well.
The hostess was pure perfection and made us feel so comfortable and relax, the waiter was also great.
Food was very bland. Soup was Luke warm and the roast chicken was barely roasted and the gravy tasted like water. Very disappointed with the quality of food!
Our server was very friendly. Could have been a bit more attentive, although a very busy time . We always enjoy the food and ambiance at this restaurant.
As always, a wonderful experience!
Great atmosphere but the Groupon prefix meals weren't great.
Live nearby not the only reason that we offen come by . The food the service are never disappointed us .
Vinay was outstanding ... only issue was the background music which seemed to get louder with regularity ...had to request management intervention to reduce the sound level 3 times ...
Otherwise ...amazing, awesome, classic destination bordering on the reputation of Scaramouche , the former North 44 and others of that ilk ...
Great environment, and good food
Good food and service
Such a lovely room and atmosphere. The service was quite good. The food was very good, but not great.
All good. Good service and food
Went there with a good friend for a Christmas lunch. We had a great experience. Fabulous waiter and good food and great wines. We will be back. We shared the club sandwich as a main and it was seriously delicious which sounds so strange to rave about a sandwich. But seriously good.
I believe the price is reasonable for the quality you get. Thier cocktails and foods are super tasty and healthy. I also like the atmosphere. The staffs are also very nice people
food was just ok, nothing special. pea soup was quite plain. but gave big tip cuz great service
Ambiance was great. Several groups celebrating the same as us. Not too loud. Food was well prepared and served. Servers pleasant and attentive without being obtrusive. Very pleasant evening.
Beef tenderloin was very dry without any sauce for $37. Not worth it.
Our steaks were ordered medium rare and came to our table medium well. We did bring this to our servers attention and the manager quickly took care of the issue and replaced our steaks.
