All along Granville Street you'll find shopping, theatres and nightclubs. If you are a sports enthusiast; General Motors Place (the Canucks and other live entertainment) and B.C. Place (the B.C. Lions) are within walking distance. Is the game sold out? Enjoy a cocktail while you watch our HD screen in the bar area. Whether you are alone or with a group you are sure you to have a great time at Shuraku!
One of my favorite places downtown.... specifically Granville street...... unfortunately closing after a great 10 run. We will certainly miss going back.
We had such an incredible night at Shuraku! Thank you so much for everything!!
I think the experience would have been better if the staff was more organized with seating us. The couple in front of us didn’t have a reservation & blocked anyone else from being sat. We had reservations, were delayed in being sat, then were moved after we were sat because there was a larger party that needed our table. Not impressed.
We had a very enjoyable evening at Shuraku with attentive service, very good Sake and wonderfully creative sushi and sashimi. The fish was extremely fresh and simply delicious. The restaurant had a good buzz and is warm and welcoming.
Great lunch spot with great prices!
Maybe expected too much, turnout a bit disappointed. Decent food, price at high end, probably it’s downtown Vancouver. More like a 3.5 star.
Great food especially the bbq squid
Very fresh sushi. Would have liked to see an assorted sushi platter/boat on the menu instead of single type rolls.
Average sushi restaurant. Based on previous reviews, we had hoped for something special. Service was inconsistent. Dishes were not cleared after each course and getting drinks and water took several attempts. Server was sweet and friendly but had several tables to tend to on a pretty slow night.
Nothing we were served was bad or unacceptable save the sukiyaki. Sukiyaki was very unimpressive. Far too sweet and the beef was tough and chewy. Fish was fresh and presentation was OK. Asked for and were served fresh wasabi which was the highlight of the evening.
Overall, very disappointing experience. Go in with low expectations and you will not be surprised.
Shuraku is one of ma favourite go-to Japanese restaurants. Try the spicy salmon tartare, the eggplant poppers, and the signature ribs. Nice selection of cold saki as well !
Shuraku is a good restaurant right in downtown Vancouver. It has delicious food and a good atmosphere, and has a little patio out the front to people watch. I would go back
A good Japanese restaurant to enjoy well prepared food. Reasonable price, value for money
Excellent sushi. One of the best sushi’s I ever ate. Friendly service.
When it’s full it can be very noisy.
But a real must to do
Excellent food. Best sushi in town. A little bit noise but service has been great
Delicious food, great welcoming customer service. Long list of different types of Sake. Perfect spot to have dinner before a concert. Food was excellent.
Our waitress was great, so accommodating and helpful...tables maybe are too narrow for all the plates we ordered but the food was great and the flights of sake were so tasty!
Shuraku is always a very pleasant experience. The food is very good and creative and the service is fast, friendly, and knowledgeable.
My favorite is the "7 kinds of sashimi" platter. Stunning and tasty.
Excellent food as always
Very nice experience, fab sake list, and tasty dishes.
Good quality food
If you are looking for a great Japanese Izakaya, try this restaurant!
It was very good but not quite what we expected. It was just a little more casual than expected. Was a little surprised that the dishes we ordered were not served with rice. It was supposed to be "family style" which normally has a pot or bowl of rice with it. Could be mistaken. The sushi here was fantastic, top 3 of any place we have been...and came out quickly too. Service was excellent also.
This is a Vancouver gem. One would be hard-pressed to find a better Sake selection in Vancouver and it is reasonably priced as well. The "tuna three ways" stood out. The sushi rice for the Nigiri dishes was just the right temperature and texture.
The food was pretty good but the service was lacking. We were seated in the far back & nobody seem to bother to check up on us throughout the meal from giving us water, menus, asked how food was, & flagging a server to pay for the meal.
Our servers were very friendly!
Great lunch spot. Chicken karage curry in stone bowl is one of my faves
Great sushi with many other creative dishes. The fish melted in my mouth! My first taste of fiddlehead ferns. Presentation was truly excellent. Sake/ beer special drink went extremely well. Wait service was excellent as well. Wish we could visit Vancouver again soon !
Food and drinks were fine, but value for money was horrible, we ordered sashimi for almost 30CAD...we even asked if it was enough for 2 people as we were quite hungry... Turned out that the portion was very small, so that was disappointing. Quality of the fish was great but please put on some more of it so ppl wont leave the place as hungry as when they came in...
The food is always excellent, of the highest quality. Shuraku does NOT serve farmed salmon, one of the greatest characteristics of this place for me is the concern for sustainable and highest quality. Always a great choice when on the Granville strip for a concert, a night out on the town, or whatever occasion.
Place is a bit shabby and a table nearby had way too much to drink. Dropped the f bomb on numerous occasions-glad my young grandkids were not with us.
Restaurant was very busy and food took a long time to arrive (20-30mins). The quality was also not as good as we were used to. Have been here before and the fish was very fresh. This time the spicy salmon roll was a weird pasty/gooey mush, and did not smell fresh. For the high prices, I would have expected higher quality food and quicker service.
Food and price is great. It's just so so loud in there
Excellent variety in the Gozen Box which changes from time to time. The pork ribs are especially tasty.
I have never been disappointed.
Great location- Steps away from Vogue, Commodore and Orpheum Theaters.
Please put Tuna Tataki back on the evening menu !!!
Thank you !
Couldn't get a reservation at Black Rice Izakaya, but Shuraku turned out to be a nice alternative for our pre-concert dinner. Tasty selections. No blaring music. Nice informal atmosphere. Great service.
We were seated right in front the door, immediately asked host/server if possible to change table as restaurant was not busy. He was not too impressed by our request even though the restaurant was 1/5 full. If we were left with no choice I would understand, but there were plenty of seats including the bar.
After seated, no one bothered to greet or bring water to our table. Took at least 10 minutes before someone realized we were there and brought water to our table.
Good service the waiters are really friendly.
Really enjoyed the sukiyaki one person pot meal, a bit short on vegetables, but yummy! I had it with a side of udon noodles for $1, great value! The sake margaritas are to die for, very tasty, could drink many of those! Also the matcha cheesecake was very nice, with a chocolate crumb base and fruit coulis. All in all we would come back to try more tasty bites, looks like a great menu. Service was a bit slow but it was heavy traffic time, before the Pops performance at the Orpheum and the line up at the Commodore. Reservations recommended.
Great service! Very knowledgeable and friendly. The food was very good—and beautiful presentation.
The only thing was the beef tataki should have been beef carpaccio—very thin and very tender but it was not. It seems that it may not have been typical offering though? Perhaps a one off? They handled it professionally. It’s too bad as the salad and dressing was tasty -we really would have enjoyed it.
Always amazing place for good eats and friendly staff! The waitress did an awesome job of administrating our game of credit card roulette!
