SIDECAR is PJ Clarke's handsome semi-private upstairs dining room. The birthplace of Patrick Joseph Clarke himself, for 50 years, it was a musty antiques office. Now, its wood beamed ceiling, exposed brick walls hung with fine art, and long seemingly endless space welcomes diners to one of Manhattan's most intimate dining rooms. You enter Sidecar through a special entrance on East 55th Street. The menu, prepared in Sidecar’s own kitchen, is Steaks, Chops, Seafood and Raw Bar. I had high expectations but food was very disappointing. The ambiance was fine, service was fine but the food was sub par. My steak sandwich was tiny and overcooked. It tasted like it was made yesterday and reheated today. It didn’t make sense to send it back because it was a tiny 3 bite piece and I are one bite trying it.

Had lunch at Sidecar with a friend I had not seen in months on the second day of reopening. Received a very warm welcome. Food and service were excellent. A little pricey but worth it for the quiet space and distance from other customers. Will definitely be back.

I planned this reservation weeks in advance for a special weekend for my husband, parents and in-laws. We were very disappointed. We were the only people in the restaurant on Saturday night so it was nice and quiet in the restaurant. But unfortunately our server was abrupt and aloof and the food was just okay. When we asked for bread, she said “oh we usually don’t bread at this time of night, maybe one piece. Who wants it?” She was very awkward and when ordering things, she seemed confused and gave off a weird vibe. We spent over $450 and agreed it was not worth it.

We loved our experience at PJs sidecar. It’s an adorable place, the food was fantastic and the service was impeccable. I had the Pan seared scallops and my husband had the fillet and Brussel sprouts.

Oysters, lobster, crab cakes, oh my! Dinner was amazing but the atmosphere was even better. It felt like we were transported back to the rat pack days. Dim lighting, dark woods and plush booths made for a comfortable and elegant experience. A definite must while in midtown!!

We were the only people in the restaurant and wanted to switch tables due to the draft. The hostess moved us but said in a very snotty way that she needed the table in 45 minutes. At this point there was only ONE other table occupied. We ordered the lobster which was well done and uneatable and sent it back. We also had the Filet which was covered in pepper and grease. I would never go back!

Go to a nearby Steakhouse if you want a steak, not worth it here. Also, the burgers used to be amazing, but have become overrated as competition has set higher standards in close vicinity to this restaurant. Used to be a fan, but I'll pass on this option in the future outside of an occasional burger a PJ Clarkes (below Sidecar and same owner/food).
