The warmly lit, fully interior Grill Room is equipped for visual presentations, and the two rooms open up onto one another to allow for larger gatherings in one lovely space.Smitty's Grill is the perfect place for any celebration or event, be it a birthday, anniversary, holiday, rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, wrap party, awards show reception, charity reception or corporate meeting. I’ve said it all before and I’m happy to report that it never changes as to the over all experience. Back patio lovely and secluded, only one other table occupied, fireplace warming the chill of the evening. Great drinks, food, and service starting and ending with Carlos at the back entrance taking my car. An out of town first timer loved it as much as I have for many years.

I've eaten here several times and I've sampled lots of items from the menu, and I can say every meal has been awesome. The cornbread appetizer hits the spot. It has a crumb topping that is just sweet enough without being too sweet. The pot pie is quality comfort food and big enough for 2 people to share. The dining room isn't huge but there are a few tables out front on Lake Avenue and a few more tables in a small bamboo-ensconced courtyard patio behind the restaurant. And there's a fireplace in the courtyard. You'll see people walking in and out of the rear entrance, but the courtyard is a great setting for a meal.

I love Smitty's. I try to get there as often as I can, at least once a month. They've had to reduce their hours, in part due to the minimum wage increases, but I can usually adjust my reservation time to accommodate. During the day the patio is delightful. In the evening l like a quiet booth.

In spite of a disappointing start when the party at our table lingered and lingered and after waiting an additional 20 minutes we were seated in the rear patio area and had our usual excellent Smitty's experience. Make reservations for the first seating is the answer because people tend not to leave.

Our waiter offered us a choice of "specials" without advising about the costs. One of our party selected one of these items assuming it would be about the same as similar items on the regular menu. It turned out that the selected meal was about twice the cost of the other similar items. We got a bit of a shock when the bill came. In our opinion, the waiter should have advised when he saw we were ordering a more expensive item. Not every diner is oblivious to the cost of their meal.

I love this spot and usually rate a 5. We were two women dining and were seated first at a table that was hidden behind a booth (worst in the house) and literally was like being under burger warming lights. The glare was crazy. They could not turn down the lights so we were moved to a table behind the bar... not great either... lots of traffic. There were other tables and o had a reservation so not great placement. Otherwise, it was fun, easy and delicious.

A business colleague and I meet at Smitty's monthly, and always ask to be seated in Judith's section. She represents the restaurant well - she is friendly, helpful, efficient and a joy to work with. When I was there on Wednesday, I noticed that her usual section had been limited, and wonder why? I have never noticed her having difficulty serving all of us.

My husband and my girl friend’s husband celebrated their birthday together today for lunch at the Smitty’s . They really put their heart into it by giving us handwriting Birthday card and beautiful orchard flower. We are very touch by all of this. The food is always delicious, every staff is very friendly. We’ve been to Smitty’s for several special occasion dinners. High end comfort food. We had the fried chicken and meatloaf but have also tried the chicken pot pie on past occasions. Healthy portions & all tasty & worth ordering. Some come with sides & others do not so we ordered creamed spinach & fries. Cocktails were rather small but that shouldn’t stop you from coming here. Overall, great place.

I booked a special birthday lunch for my assistant and have to be honest, the service was disappointing. While the restaurant provided nice touches like an orchid and a card for my assistant's special lunch (which were appreciated), the gestures were off set by the fact that our waitress made NO effort to be friendly or engaging. When the waitress brought her a birthday desert she just set it down, made no eye contact with my assistant, didn't say a word and walked away. I thought, wow, not at all what I was expecting from this venerable Pasadena institution. Additionally, the restaurant was quite noisy at 12:30 p.m.. The food was fine, but unfortunately the overall experience didn't leave me satisfied.

The Hangar Steak with chimichurri sauce was a special that night. It was cooked perfect medium rare and the mashed potatoes and asparagus were excellent sides. Didn't leave anything on the plate! Waiter was very kind and patient with our group of three. Thank you.

I hate giving any bad review, but I generally do not like to dine in a noisy, dish banging, child crying, and loud speaking restaurant. The noise level totally put me off. If I knew it would have been that loud I would not have made the reservation. But I have to admit that everyone in the group enjoyed their meals, especially my sons who were celebrating their birthday with their mom!!! However, my chicken piccata was little too sour, and I totally had very bad reaction to it later that night. Since, I personally prefer to enjoy my dinner in a calm and relaxing atmosphere, especially if I am going to spend a lot of money, I am sorry but I cannot recommend Smitty's for its ambiance and noise.

Old Pasadena charming restaurant with a classy modern ambiance specializing in comfort food and done well. On a recent trip visiting from Orlando, FL, my husband and I liked our beef stroganoff and short ribs with mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts that we had our first visit so much that we returned 3 nights later with our 2 daughters and their husband and boyfriend. 4 of us split 2 large prime rib dinners and the portions were still generous. Daughter's boyfriend said his chicken pot pie was the best he ever had. Tossed green salad was even really good. Great service as well. Servers wear crisp white shirts and ties. Our new special occasion restaurant for the family. Only downside is it's a bit noisy, but hey, it's because it's popular and everyones having a good time :).
