Great service, great food. I appreciate that there’s a great salad/soup bar included. Steaks were amazing
We always enjoy our experiences at Smuggler. But this visit lacked service! We waited twenty minutes after we had or meal before the waiter came to take our dessert order. Again we waited twenty five minutes when we were done before the waiter came wth our bill. We had to put on coats before he came.
Years ago, I had the honour of being a critic with "Fine Dining in Alberta." Overall, I've travelled the length and breadth of Alberta, enjoying the various menus in many, many restaurants. Without any hesitation, I would place Smuggler's Inn easily in the top 1% of establishments. The food is superb. The entire experience is extremely memorable. The staff and service is outstanding!
We wanted to show off our Alberta beef to our out of town guests, but as a group, we had 3 under 2. You can imagine what a challenge it is to look for something nice, local and kid friendly! Our server was incredible. He was very kind and made us feel wet comfortable even though the kids were abit disastrous. The food was awesome. The portion was huge! We shared our meal with our kids but the portion was so big that we had some leftovers. Great value for our money! Our relatives were super impressed. And they are huge foodies from Toronto! We definitely recommend this place!
Brunch at Smugglers is always a positive experience. The food is delicious and plenty of variety. Where else can you get waffles, eggs benedict, brisket and bacon in a buffet? The service is attentive with your coffee always filled. This is by far the best brunch buffet in Calgary overall.
We went for Sunday brunch. Maybe we have been spoiled from other places but the food was not good. Looked old already even though we got there at 9:45. Basically leftovers from the night before and nothing really tasted fresh. Plates were small, limited selection of veggies, salads. Service was good and dessert were great! I like the cozy decor. Brunch usually costs around the 25-30 mark so it is priced right, but there are better options for good food out there.
Always a favourite when we have friends or family in town!
Would not recommend the brunch. Not many breakfast varieties for $25
The soup and salad bar is great! A very nice surprise. The decor is very unique, we got a kick out of the chairs. The steak was just, ok it didn’t have very much flavour, that was disappointing considering we were craving steak. if we return I’ll order blackened steak and would recommend you do too. The server forgot our drinks for a while, she got them eventually but they were lukewarm. Probably because our table was passed over from another server.
Our waiter was very attentive and pleasant. The food was excellent.
I just love this place! It never disappoints! Such a cool ambience and great experience overall. Food is delicious and staff ever so friendly and helpful! My favorite!
The prime rib was outstanding (as usual) and the soup and salad bar is always a nice bonus.
Always a lovely. Really outdated and slightly confused about the theme. Not sure if it’s going for mid-evil, 70’s or a pirate ship.
Took my mom here 2 years ago, but forgot the name. Just knew that it was on maclean trail. It is thanks to google maps tracking me that I was able to find the same one, and not the other one next door or across the street.
Always happy with the visit. Great seat, friendly hostess and our waiter was full of information when we asked. He had the time for us which is really nice
Had not been to Smugglers for many years, but we really enjoyed our experience and food at our recent visit. We found the buffet a little congested, and the bowls and rolls had run out when we went up to start our meal. Salad bar was interesting and well thought out. My daughter's serving of prime rib was a bit on the fatty side, so some of it was unappetizing and inedible. Otherwise, the food was delicious and met our expectations.
Great atmosphere and excellent service (Thanks Marco)!
An evening in 1972, from the decor to the salad bar to the menu. Food was average ‘Old Calgary’ fare. Acceptable. Nothing special. Prime rib was tender but under seasoned. Portions were too large. Plating was unappetizing. It was just ‘okay’. We were invited by friends but I wouldn’t eat here again when there are so many fresh new establishments around town. This is somewhere to your Calgarian grandparents or small-town family will enjoy.
made a reservation which was great! Only thing i would do next time is request the dining room as we were placed in the lounge and did not expect that.
Really enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. Hadn't been there in quite some time. My friends and myself were quite impressed.
Great Food and Great Service. We will be going back here in the near future.
We loved it
It was my parents anniversary and we had a surprise dinner for them. Patrick was an amazing server, friendly and very efficient! The food was so delicious. Our only complaint would be the long wait to receive our main course, it was approximately an hour after we finished the salad bar. Smugglers is my parents’ favourite restaurant and since I’m from out of town, it made for an easy way to celebrate their 54th anniversary!
Usually great gone for 20++ years
However service was not great
Smallest serving of calamari maybe 12-14 rings
Prime rib all bone raw gristle terrible
Smallest and skinest filet steak for 40 bucks looked like steak sandwich meat and not great
Great food. Prime rib was perfect and so was the filet. Had an early seating, so the salad bar was just perfectly set up and the bread warm. Could not ask for a better time.
Calgary classic prime rib restaurant. Been around forever (and looks it as well). Food is consistently good. Not fancy food, good old beef and potatoes. Still has included soup and salad bar. My favourite soup, 1/2 steak and 1/2 Portuguese bean. Has gluten free menu and I have some picky GF people in my family and they have been fine
This was our second time at Smugglers, we will definitely be back! The food is incredible and the staff are friendly and professional. Everything about the restaurant is wonderful, it is on the more expensive side but well worth the money for the food.
Being New Year's Eve we expected it to be busy ~ and it was. We did have a lovely time. All 6 in our party commented how delicious the prime rib was. But they also commented on how the salad bar has gone downhill from previous years. Just less choices. Also, given the cost of a stuffed potato at $5.50, I expected it to be hot.. It was barely luke warm and the veggies were cold. One in our party realized immediately and sent hers back. I however already had toppings on my potato, so just took it home. The meat portion of the meal was fantastic!! The server was very nice, but a bit neglectful on beverage orders. We were never asked again from our original pre-dinner drink. Those who did want a 2nd drink managed to get one, but had to flag her down. Understandable as she was busy, but we weren't very impressed with the waitress expecting us to reach over one another to get our plates. There was lots of room between the chairs on one side of the table for her to place the plates in front of each of us, rather than us grabbing hot plates and burning our fingers. After the 1st time, by husband asked her to go between the chairs ~ which she did for the one side of the table. Still one of our favorite restaurants and a great venue for a New Year's Eve dinner. Thank-You!
Food was great. The wines we tried to order off the menu were out of stock. The waiter serving our table kept looking at his watch making us feel rushed.
Both food quality and services had gone downhill slowly especially in the last year. I have been going to Smuggler's Inn for brunch at least twice a year for the last 20 years.
As expected, the food was excellent as was the service.
Halibut tarragon is fantastic soup is great and salad bar is a healthy choice
Staff and servers are friendly and highly accommodating. Our waitress Laura has been attentive to our needs and offered us the best prime ribs we have ever had. Will definitely recommend Smuggler’s Inns Restaurant to friends and relatives.
The food and salad bar is delicious. It's a very nice place for a romantic dinner.
Wonderful as always
A bit slow for food to come out. One meal, the chicken was a bit over cooked. Other than that everything fine.
Food was great as was the service. The noise level was low enough that we could enjoy conversation with our guests.
Our overall experience (brother and myself) was very good. The waitress was good and looked after us very well. The only thing average was my prime rib - looked better than it was. It seemed to be overcooked somewhat and a bit dry. I didn't complain because I have eaten at Smuggler's many times and have always enjoyed it - so, they get a pass. I'll be back again and will expect to get the usual tasty beef.
Oversize chairs were hard to move and get in and out of to attend the buffet. The chairs were literally touching each other and with three on each side of the table the person in the centre couldn't move without someone on either side having to completely move into the isleways. The chairs were also located very close to the table behind us, and did not allow much room to push back. Felt like a sardine in a can.
Half of the items on the buffet table were empty/missing or mis-labelled. Even after a second trip it was less that desirable.
For the over $200 bill for six it was not worth it. We would have been better off going for a sit down menu meal elsewhere. Very disappointed.
Went for buffet brunch. Wasn't terrible, but wasn't good either. Fortunately, had a really good waiter.
