Sonora Room Restaurant - Burrowing Owl Estate Winery
Chef Simon is amazing. All the staff are exceptional. Would definately recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a phenomenal meal.
THE AMBIANCE WAS GREAT AND THE HARP PLAYERS WAS FANTASTIC. RON, OUR SERVER, WAS ONE OF THE BEST WE HAVE EVER HAD. FOOD WAS HOT AND VERY GOOD. IT WAS A FANTASTIC VALENTINE'S EXPERIENCE FOR US.
BOB AND SUE
We had a very memorable dinner, thank you. The harp lady was lovely with a large repertoire.
We had an excellent meal with superb attention to detail. Our server was knowledgeable and pleasant. We would attend this establishment again for an important occasion.
The atmosphere at the Sonora Room was fantastic. The food was exceptional and we thoroughly enjoyed the bottle of Athene red wine which paired wonderfully with each of our meals.
Love the Burrowing Owl Estate Winery and Sonora Room Rest. Food was delicious as always. Try the Spanish Coffee, Superb!
My husband and I were very happy with our meal. Delicious food and stunning views. We sat outside and it was lovely with the heater and blanket they provided. Would go back again!
My husband and I went out for date night. The food was very tasty and fresh. We had the soup of the day which was mushroom and my husband had the special which was beef so tender you didn’t need a knife and I had the duck confit also very flavourful. The ambiance is very soothing, noise level is low. The view is amazing looking over the valley. The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.
We would definitely recommend this place for a beautiful night out and enjoy amazing food.
How lovely to be reminded what professional service can be! A server who knows food, wine, has a blend of discretion and assurance to enhance your dining experience, the flexibility to follow your lead on pacing and the expertise and confidence to make useful recommendations. What a treat!
The food was good, not outstanding but good (except for the duck en torchon et rillette which was excellent).
The recommended wines enhanced our food selection and we never felt pushed to order more wine then what we were comfortable to do.
The setting, the ambience, and the service took what could have been no more than an ordinary dining experience into a memorable moment.
A must visit Restaurant in Osoyoos !
Outstanding Service, Food , Views and
of course the Wine !
Second visit and will be back next year.
Compared to our earlier visits to the Sonora Room, we were disappointed in the food. The service however was excellent. While it was an overall satisfactory experience, we will look elsewhere for a nice meal.
We had a reservation but waited 10 minutes to be seated and there were two groups ahead of us. When we were seated the hostess said there weren’t any food menus available as there were all in use. The wine was wonderful and the food was good. Our server was pleasant and tried very hard. After reading the many reviews, we were a little disappointed.
We really enjoyed our visit to Burrowing Owl. We ended up with outdoor seating as it was full indoors. It was a little chilly, but the staff accommodated us with blankets and heaters. We had the deck to ourselves and it ended up being a great evening. We had the mushroom soup (good but could have been hotter) and the lamb which was excellent. Dessert was an interesting take on S’Mores. We were served a complimentary chocolate truffle at the end of the meal. Very nice, but we were too full to really appreciate it.
We found that service was very slow throughout the whole evening. First we waited 10 minutes to be seated even though we had a reservation, then we waited another 20 minutes before we got our wine. And finally our main dish arrived approximately 2 hours after we arrived.
In addition, some of the dishes did not meet our expectations in terms of taste. But the wine was excellent.
Beautiful setting, wonderful food, fine wine. Who could ask for anything more.
Service was incredibly slow. It took almost 20 minutes to order and receive our drinks. Food portions were small for the price.
Did not think the menu was particularly inspired, a little ho- hum in fact. On the other hand, the staff in the tasting room were very helpful and a pleasure to speak with.
Do not order the “de-constructed” coq au vin. It is not coq au vin. It is a bizarrely pretentious attempt to flex culinary skills that simply are not ready for prime time. While it has the elements (I think), presenting them as less than the sum of their parts does nothing for the dish. The signature sauce that makes coq au vin what it is, based on a significant amount of red wine, is all but entirely absent from the dish. The chicken piece on the plate was dry and appeared to be overcooked. The dish left the impression that this is a restaurant that takes itself too seriously...without any justification for doing so.
Apart from the bizarrely precious entree, our waiter was unable to make any informed recommendation about which of the wines from the list would suit what we were intrrested in. In fairness, he told us he was just a recent hire so didn’t know the wines well. Keep in mind this is a restaurant at a winery. Perhaps they may want to ensure their servers actually have sufficient product knowledge to justify the more than $140 per person price for dinner we paid by the end of the night.
Buy your wine here (the 2015 Cab Franc is my absolute favourite). Have dinner elsewhere.
The food was absolutely fantastic! We had the foie gras and squash salad appetizers. Then we shared the coq au vin entree. My friend and I were stuffed silly and oh so happily! We cannot stop raving about the food! Service was top-notch and the view from the patio was amazing. We highly, highly recommend dining at the Sonora Room! We will definitely be back!
Great afternoon and wonderful service.
Enjoyed the view on the patio
Expensive and very busy. But great service and delicious food.
Burrowing Owl is one of our favorite restaurants to visit when we are in Osoyoos. We always ask for Ingla to be our server as she is an absolute Gem, she is always so friendly,
kind, attentive and very knowledgeable with the menu and food that is prepared. Thank you Burrowing Owl once
again for a very tasty meal and to Ingla for always making it a very special experience for us!
Beautiful location with amazing views. Food and wine was outstanding.
The service was friendly and efficient. The food was great and the wine list had some older vintages of their wines. It's a must visit winery restaurant in Oliver,BC.
We went for lunch. The food was fine but not exceptional. In fact that would some up my description, service, ambience etc all fine but not exceptional and with not real effort to showcase their wines.
Beautiful scenery! Great wines. The charcuterie board was a little disappointing as it had moldy fruit on it, and we had to leave early because there was a wedding party at the restaurant.
Superb food. The barley 'risotto' and the shrimp roll were absolutely delicious. The patio has amazing views. Highly recommended.
Food was very good, based on local and fresh fruits and greens. The view is absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed our dinner.
Incredible vista, ambience, and service. A true gem on the Golden Mike Bench.
I've already reccomended Burrowing Owl to most of the guests we met at a lovely wedding the following day! Great location, vista; all helped by the perfect weather.
We so enjoyed our lunch in the Sonroa Room. The waiter recommended a new peach dish that the chef had created that day and it was amazing. The S'more dessert blew us away.
Always love having a meal here. The food is always good. The menu is quite limited and that would be my only down side.
This is our third time over the past 15 or so years, can't say enough about how good the food and wine is, it's by far our favourite place to eat, just gets better every time.
Food was excellent. Service was a bit slow. Location and view are outstanding.
We were visiting Osoyoos for the first time to see an 89 year old cousin who we’d never met
Amazing food and experience!
I would rate it as one of the top 5 places we have ever dined, we were on the patio overlooking the pool and vineyards, astoundingly beautiful , food was great, wine was great, service fantastic, there is a trend here, it is quite pricey, but it was worth it!!!!
First time there; Everything was great expect we couldn’t wait for 15-30min for the patio table. But definitely will go back again! Over all The food was amazing!!! And service was great too!
Outstanding lunch. Our waiter had great sense of humour. Our wine was excellent as was our food.
