Sonora Room Restaurant - Burrowing Owl Estate Winery
Beautiful scenery! Great wines. The charcuterie board was a little disappointing as it had moldy fruit on it, and we had to leave early because there was a wedding party at the restaurant.
Superb food. The barley 'risotto' and the shrimp roll were absolutely delicious. The patio has amazing views. Highly recommended.
Food was very good, based on local and fresh fruits and greens. The view is absolutely beautiful. We enjoyed our dinner.
Incredible vista, ambience, and service. A true gem on the Golden Mike Bench.
I've already reccomended Burrowing Owl to most of the guests we met at a lovely wedding the following day! Great location, vista; all helped by the perfect weather.
We so enjoyed our lunch in the Sonroa Room. The waiter recommended a new peach dish that the chef had created that day and it was amazing. The S'more dessert blew us away.
Always love having a meal here. The food is always good. The menu is quite limited and that would be my only down side.
This is our third time over the past 15 or so years, can't say enough about how good the food and wine is, it's by far our favourite place to eat, just gets better every time.
Food was excellent. Service was a bit slow. Location and view are outstanding.
We were visiting Osoyoos for the first time to see an 89 year old cousin who we’d never met
Amazing food and experience!
I would rate it as one of the top 5 places we have ever dined, we were on the patio overlooking the pool and vineyards, astoundingly beautiful , food was great, wine was great, service fantastic, there is a trend here, it is quite pricey, but it was worth it!!!!
First time there; Everything was great expect we couldn’t wait for 15-30min for the patio table. But definitely will go back again! Over all The food was amazing!!! And service was great too!
Outstanding lunch. Our waiter had great sense of humour. Our wine was excellent as was our food.
We enjoyed a wonderful dinner sitting on the patio looking out over grape vines.
We have returned to the Sonora Room many times over the years, watching Burrowing Owl fledge into the remarkable place it is. The menu is always an interesting experience we look forward to, paired with superb wine. This is the landing spot for our annual family dinner. Consistently exceeds our expectations.
Great food, great service, great location!
Beautiful setting and gorgeous view. The food was quite good and service very good.
Beautiful setting and wonderful service. The food was substandard at best. Very disappointing.
Had a great time will be back soon
I stopped by for a lunch treat before heading back to the Vancouver area. I got a beautiful seat overlooking the Vineyard and my server was very attentive. A couple of things didn’t go quite right. First I had asked to try two different wines before I made a decision but the server brought me a full glass of one type of wine and a taster of the other. We got that figured out and corrected. When I was choosing my lunch the server told me the specials. I am fascinated on a green salad versus the daily special salad which the server indicated I would go better with my risotto. The salad was cucumbers and tomatoes with a balsamic vinegerette, with croutons. There was no indication that this was not a fresh salad, which is what I wanted . When I got the salad the tomatoes look like they had been roasted or brined/pickled or something like that, definitely not fresh, and the cucumbers look the same way. The croutons were delicious! I had a few bites of the salad along with my risotto and it just wasn’t what I had expected. I explained this to the server, she asked me if I wanted it in a “to go” container? I thought that was very odd considering I explained that I did not like the salad at all and it wasn’t at all what I expected. I fully anticipated that that salad would be taken off the bill but it was not. I got a complimentary macaroon but that didn’t quite equal to $16 value on the salad! By that time I was too frustrated to consider bringing it up with management.
I absolutely recommend this restaurant. Calm ambiance and excellent food and service.
We came for dinner without a reservation at 9 pm, after a horrible experience at Miradoro at Tinhorn Creek. Although it is posted that the kitchen closes at 9, we were welcomed by a charming hostess and after seating a wonderful server named Ally and we never felt rushed in any way.
We came back the following day for a full dinner to celebrate a birthday and the experience continued to be amazing. The Duck confit and the Lamb loin was excellent. It is obvious that this restaurant is well run, has an excellent chef and pastry chef and the staff are friendly, welcoming and professional.
The ambiance of the outside deck is calm and peaceful.
The Sonora Room restaurant is definitely going to see us again.
Food portion lacking, long wait times for meals, service just ok. Great ambience and views though.
To expensive for the amount of food we were served.
We when with friends for dinner for our Anniversaries. We arrived and got a wonderful greeting. We then were escorted to the patio. The waitresses was very knowledgeable of the food and wine served at the restaurant.
The view was so beautiful and we all enjoyed the evening.
Excellent service and food. Our waitress was super and explained the differences between the glasses that were used.
Next time I will phone to make the reservation. Using open table is convenient but you get the second rate seating inside rather than on the outside deck. Rather disappointing. No point driving all those miles just to look at a pouring bar.
We reserved for lunch. When we arrived at 1:45 all of the tables inside were empty and the deck was full. No one acknowledged us for 10 minutes even though servers were going by in all directions. Not even one bit of eye contact.
Then when we were to be seated, we asked it we could just sit temporarily inside until an outside table was ready. We were told “no” since it would be in another server’s area. We then asked how long the wait for a table outside would be and got a shrug in return.
The four of us left without eating and went down the road to Black Hills. Burrowing Owl, you lost a lunch for 4 and a future customer. At least offer us a wine tasting until a table is ready.
Baes on the recommendations of several friends, we decided to try Sonora Room Restaurant for dinner and were very glad we did. The views from our patio table were breathtaking, service was warm and friendly, and the food was delicious. Wish I had room for dessert - perhaps next time.
We have eaten many times over the years at Sonora Room Restaurant. Unfortunately this time the food was average. Service was slow. Our waiter was really good but had way to many tables. Everything took far to long to be served and our desert we waited over 20 min. for. After desert also had to wait for the bill. As well we got cold out on the deck as the evening progressed and we had to go get sweaters, no one offered to turn on the outdoor heater above us. Also we were celebrating our 39 anniversary and even though we put this down when we made the reservation, no one bother to acknowledge this. We choose this restaurant for our special occasion and will definitely choose differently next year. Better restaurants have the ability to pay attention to all the details and Sonora Room is just average.
We have been going to this restaurant each year for the last few years and are always treated well and have a nice table on the patio (with reservation). My boyfriend and I have various food allergies and sensitivities and the the servers and chefs are always super accommodating. The wine is good and food is always good although it would be nice to see more fish and non-meat proteins as entrees regardless, we will return next year and will always highly recommend this restaurant to others.
The view is excellent, the food is excellent the service is superb. The food uses the local markets to deliver exceptions food offerings. Just the scenery is superb!!!!
Without getting into it the general impression after two visits is that if a restaurant wants to be considered top notch and a top local establishment with prices that match they cannot put out a mediocre food and service experience. Sorry but we won't be back.
Had a reservation for our anniversary dinner their. Had to wait 5 minutes when we arrived to be noticed by the hostess. The restaurant was less than half full. Patio was full and we wanted a patio table so got sat at the bar to wait for a table. Bartender was right in front of us. Had to wait 15 min to get a glass of wine. Then waited 30 min for a table on the patio. Was never asked if we would like a second glass of wine or an appetizer. Then went outside to our table. Our server was excellent however another 15 min to get some attention. We ordered an appetizer and bottle of wine. Wine came out immediately. Appetizer was another 20 min although they did bring us a free nibbly and some bread. Dinner finally came at 9:00 2 hours after our reservation. Food was very good but very expensive for what you got. Ordered dessert as well which was excellent. Overall I would not go back. Service, food value and ambience did not warrant the very expensive price. There are much better fine dining restaurants around for the price.
Gorgeous restuarant. The patio view is extraordinary so go early and get on the waitlist for it. My hubby and I were too hungry to wait so we sat by a window inside and were still blown away by the beauty. The service was impeccable. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The food is delightful! A must-do if you're in the region!
The food was very good, especially the Duck Confit.
The only recommendation to the restaurant would be to improve their service, perhaps by adding more servers. We understand patio seating cannot be assured, so we were OK waiting the estimated 15 minutes for a seat outside, ever if it ended up being more like 30 minutes. However, the rest of the service was quite slow — it took us 20 minutes to get cocktails, and dinner took over 2 1/2 hours.
Dinner reservation at 630, main entree out at 810 kinda slow but complimentary drinks given at end was a nice touch. Service was pleasant. Value for lamb dish was outrageous.
Burrowing Owl never disappoints! We absolutely love this restaurant, food is amazing and our wonderful server Ingla always makes it an exceptional experience!
Sonora at Burrowing Owl is simply tired. The place needs a serious update - everything: decor, food, and, at the prices, the “homey” service needs re-thinking. Very nice setting, but, relying on past performance is not good enough.
