Sonora Room Restaurant - Burrowing Owl Estate Winery
Thursday to Monday
LUNCH 12 - 4:30 PM
DINNER 5 - 8 PM
I dare you to try the sage cheesecake with the "chutney" sorbet. Everyone's meals looked incredible but my desert choice was suspect. The sorbet was terrible and was the laughing point of our table. When discussed with our server she sheepishly dismissed it saying that many people enjoyed it. Many people also are born without tastebuds or opinions.
Everything perfect, but unpleasantly surprised by the large number of flies in the dining room.
Restaurant roomy and quiet, allowing for easy conversation and an enjoyable meal. The chicken entree was a bit dry and tasteless, but together with the foie gras that was served with the tenderloin, it tasted great! Ambiance was a bit stuffy and I am not sure why the wine is so expensive when the same bottle is less than half the price only a few metres away in their wine shop? Views are gorgeous over the valley.
Amazing food with spectacular scenery and excellent service!!!
1 amuse Bouche. 3 appetizers. 2 mains. 2 deserts. Alllllll excellent flavours, temperatures were good and lovely presentations! Thanks!
I was disappointed in the meal and dining room.Very ordinary decor unless warm enough to sit on deck overlooking the vineyard. The meal was priced at the high end for entrees and was really quite boring. The short rib special was without much sauce or interesting spices and the fish was grilled simply with steamed clams on eggplant without anything to bring out the flavour.
Burrowing Owl Winery is beautiful and the Sonora restaurant is wonderful as well. Food was beautiful, although the pork came in cold, and had to be returned to the kitchen. I believe they just zapped under the microwave, so dried it out even a bit more. It was okay but we were charged fully and quite frankly my meal was mostly gone by the time my partners plate came back. My fish was very good though. They could have offered us a free glass of wine or desert, but no they charged us fully and the prices are high here.
A bit of disappointment for us as I would have gone back, if properly dealt with. There are many other restaurants that meet the challenge better.
Disappointing! Expected a better dining experience from a reputable winery restaurant. Pumpkin risotto with shrimp was tasty. Seared scallops was very good but over powered by the olives and capers. Arctic char was decent, part was perfect while part was over cooked, the mussels and clams were a bit fishy, didn't seem fresh. Venison was undercooked, piece that were eaten were good.
Our choices were all delicious and beautifully presented. We came from England and Rossland to celebrate my daughter’s birthday and were not disappointed - made my choice on the recommendation of the Canadian Defence Attache in the U.K. who I met in Edinburgh at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo . What a great choice. Our waiter was excellent, friendly and attentive. Thank you for a great dinner!
Wait Person rather condescending . Good food bit on the expensive side considering small portion size, especially 3 Scallop Appetiser. Lovely view makes it worth visiting.
Love taking friends here, never disappoints !
Very good quality food with a fantastic wine list. This winery is a favourite of mine. The view and ambiance of the outdoor balcony overlooking the vineyard is lovely on a warm evening. The waiter we had was very skilled and friendly, setting just the right tone. This was the last night of a vacation of travel and a great culinary experience with delicious wine.
Great food, peaceful ambience, good service and beautiful views! 🙏
Desert is definitely their best course, delicious works of art.
Great Food and wonderful ambience view was awesome
Overpriced mediocre food in a lovely surrounding. The service is excellent but the food really needs an upgrade if they want to compete. People will come for the service and views but will not come back if the food continues to be so completely lack lustre.
Service was terrible. Disinterested server, no desire to move us from aggressive wasps. She never once came to ask how our food was. She dumped off the bill and didnt ask if we would like a machine.....just walked away. She told us not to drink the wine from the store😂😂😂
Great food, great wine, wonderfull views. The service was perfect
Our son recommended this restaurant for our 30th anniversary and it was lovely. My husband had the beef tenderloin and I had the pork tenderloin with the cherries. The Cabernet Sauvignon was outstanding. The server knowledgeable about the foods and the farms providing the cheeses, the wines and regional suppliers of ingredients making up our dinner. Their homemade gelato a delight. They also provided a little something special, macaroons, after our meal. Overall a wonderful evening and dinning experience.
Awesome food, great atmosphere, and fantastic wine. The service was top notch.
You should offer the wine tastings in the restaurant as an option to avoid the crowds in the tasting room paired with menu items.
Great food always.. service is excellent and scenery over looking the winery breathe taking...will be back again..
Had dinner with my wife and siblings. Overall it was great and I would definitely recommend going to Sonora for a meal. It was very smoky due to the forest fires, otherwise I would recommend sitting outside on the patio. A beautiful location where it doesn’t take too much imagination to believe that you are in Tuscany.... The meals were all well prepared and presented and delicious.
The food and wine were very good, and the service was excellent. The view would have been beautiful if the smoke hadn't obscured it. The big, bold red wines are delicious. We will definitely return to eat here again. Many of my out-of-province visitors ask to go here to eat and taste wines. Everything is simply delightful.
Appetizer/main course were very good; dessert even better. Rosé fabulous; hope Burrowing Owl sells it commercially next year. Service a little slow. Servers in good restaurants like this one usually know when to stretch out courses and when it's time to move things along.
Great food but let down by poor service. We were hurried out of the restaurant prior to 9pm on a Thursday evening.
Great food, great service. One of the best in the area.
Amazing views, a creative locally-sourced menu and excellent service. Cant wait to return.
I had heard a lot about how great the food would be so I was a little disappointed. It was good but I wouldn’t say it was amazing by any means. We had the charcuterie, the quiche, the chicken and the BLT. Charcuterie was very nice but the rest was nothing special.
Wine and view were both great.
I have been to this restaurant before and had really enjoyed myself. This time I was not so lucky. I had made the reservation with the attempt to celebrate a special occasion with my boyfriend. The views are always spectacular. The wait for our appetizer and main were not. The service was lacking due to a large party that was seated before us. This was explained to us and I understand that can be difficult for a small restaurant. My wine glass was left empty, my boyfriends soft drink order forgotten . When we finally got our main it was overdone. We overpaid for a view that evening. I’m not sure I’d ever go back.
The food was outstanding using fresh local ingredients. The service was perfect- welcoming and we were not rushed. It is pricy but the food was worth every penny.
As always, the ambiance was wonderful, service great and appy size scallops were good. However, the arctic char was disappointing - it was not very flavorable & was overcooked.
The entire meal was fabulous!
Wonderful service. Couldn’t ask for more or better attention.
Amazing wines and the food was outstanding!
Lovely patio! $$ and small portions but well worth it. Not much for picky kids though:). Will be back.
Very good dinner with excellent wine The service was extremly professional
We went to the trouble of making a reservation. Upon arrival, we were seated quickly but had to sit for 18 minutes without any service at all (no humans acknowledged us). We left...
it proves the old adage; the smaller the portion the higher the price
Wonderful views, great service, and an outstanding menu! Really appreciate the wine pairing recommendations on the menu as well.
Beautiful location! Food and service has been better in the past but hope it was just a one off poor experience due to the long weekend.
