South City Kitchen Midtown
Dine on local specialties such as shrimp and grits, buttermilk fried chicken, she-crab soup, fried green tomatoes and banana pudding while enjoying the view of our exhibition kitchen or the Atlanta skyline on one of the best patios in the city.
This truly is dining the way the New South intended. (Please note, the restaurant is not handicap accessible.)
As visitors from Chicago, South City Kitchen felt like a welcome to Atlanta (except that we ate here on our last night in ATL). Our server Tierney was wonderful: warm, knowledgeable, attentive, helpful with recommendations, and incredibly welcoming. The food did not disappoint. We ordered the She Crab Soup, Pimento Cheese, & Fried Green Tomatoes as starters, not knowing about the (amazing) biscuits and corn-bread that come with the meal. (Yes, we over-ordered, but it was all so good). Then fried chicken and rabbit for entrees, both excellent. It was a Friday night, yet the restaurant noise level was impressively low. We appreciate when a restaurant does not blast music, as so many do these days. We loved the space. On two levels of a converted house, it feels small and intimate. We were so full, but the food was SO DELICIOUS we had to bring the leftovers to our hotel room. And I almost forgot to mention the peach preserves! Is it normally that amazingly delicious in Georgia, or just at SCK?
7 of us went to SCK for lunch after a tour of the Fox Theatre. The food and service was excellent and we sincerely enjoyed our lunches. Two issues noted on that day. 1. Parking took about two turns around the block as the lot across the street was being used by a film company and the one behind the restaurant was full. We did find parking across the street from the second one. 2. The noise level in the restaurant made it difficult to carry on conversations from one end of the table to the other, so could really only speak to those sitting across and next to you.
Great food, mediocre service. Noisy but not in a “bad” way. Definitely will come back!
Great food and service
I only eat fish so I would like a bit more seafood selection but other than that the food is pretty good.
Food and service were phenomenal! Our waiter was outstanding, and well versed on the celiac restrictions of one of our dining guests. He put us at ease and didn’t make us feel like it was a big deal. He is definitely an asset to your team!
A long time fan of the restaurant, we were slightly disappointed with our meal out with friends. We ordered a few staples, chicken liver and fried green tomatoes, which were not great. We, a table of 4, couldn't eat half of the liver appetizer because it was subpar. My dinner, trout, was good. Not great. My husband's dinner, lamb ribs, were tasty but a bit fatty. Veggies were not warm. My friend's salad for dinner looked amazing and I wished I had ordered it:-)
Lovely place. We sat outside on a beautiful evening so there was no problem with sound. Peach salad and corn muffins were the highlight of the meal. Trout was generous but a little under seasoned. A nice place to meet up with friends
Second time in South City Kitchen and as expected it did not disappoint. Fried chicken was as close to a religious experience as I'm ever likely to get. Outstanding.
The server was disinterested and not very attentive. The food was okay but not remarkable.
Its amazing! the food is so delicious (some of the best fried chicken you'll find in Atlanta) and the service is always to notch. a little pricier than a regular lunch but very very much worth it!
Really a solid choice for midtown dining. There are a lot of new items on the menu, and some are better than others. Be aware if you order the barbeque shrimp, the shrimp are not peeled and if you are hungry this may drive you crazy. The halibut was excellent and the steak as well. All in all a solid choice for dinner!!!
Overall the food and service was good, the waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable of the menu. I guess my expectations were a little higher for the food.
So loud hard to have conversation, luckily we were able to change tables to outside...a wee cold but a lot quieter.
SCK offers delicious classics southern dishes and contemporary twists to American favorites.
The Fried Catfish Rueben showcases the brilliant culinary creativity of chef, as the unlikely components of the sandwich come together for a delightful experience.
The Fried Chicken liver is a great savory starter that’s perfect to share.
I’m looking forward to returning to try more.
Service fabulous' food not so much according to reviews.
This use to be one of my favorite brunch spots. Usually when I patronize this location I generally have a good experience, however today is the exception. Our server took her pretty little time greeting our table and had an unpleasant attitude. Her entire vibe threw off our experience. She wasn’t attentive or engaging with our table. I definitely will NOT be coming back here. There are plenty of places for me to spend my hard earned money ✌🏿.
Great experience. Food was great. The service was outstanding!
This is one of the favorite spots for my girls and I. The food and drinks are always wonderful. Our waiter, Dorian, was very pleasant, attentive, and anticipated our needs. Will return.
I've eaten there ever since they opened. Consistenly superior.
Excellent food, excellent service. Really really loud.
Delicious, the fried chicken has changed my life! I can’t eat KFC anymore because I know it will never measure up to South City Kitchen
I took a client here for dinner and it was a great choice. The service was outstanding and the food excellent. We had the pimento cheese, fried green tomatoes, lamb ribs, fried chicken, trout and pork chop and everything was fantastic. Get the pineapple upside down cake for dessert - you won’t be disappointed! This place is a must try.
Trout was good but veggies lacked flavor. Could have used a diet Coke refill but wasn't offered. Way too noisy - I'd forgotten about that. Would still go back.
Delicious meal on Sunday night before attending a concert. Gabriel was a very attentive and personable waiter. Food was delicious—-oh, that banana pudding—-to die for. We were able to sit on the porch and enjoy a lovely breeze. Loved it all!
The hostess was extremely pleasant and began the wonderful experience. However, our server Andy was beyond wonderful. He was able to answer every question about the menu - from cocktail recommendations to entrée. And Andy's recommendations were on point! While the food was amazing, Andy was the cherry on top - amazing service truly makes the experience wonderful.
Thank you Andy for a wonderful experience.
I had higher expectations.
We took our mothers there for a pre Mother’s Day celebration and were very pleased with everything. Our server was excellent and engaging. The fried green tomatoes, biscuits, salmon and crab soup were all delightfully delicious. The noise at times can be a little much but overall a very warm and eclectic atmosphere.
Loved the buttermilk fried chicken..
This is my second visit to South City Kitchen and I would go back. The service, food and staff were excellent. We ate outside and it was a very enjoyable evening. My out of town colleagues were very impressed.
Stakes for overcooked and tough. Will definitely get something different if I ever go back. Service was okay ambience was okay but the food was just not up to par.
Brunch. Food was tasty, portions huge, pricey. Service ok, she was nice but it just seemed awkward. 3 at table, brought 2 waters. Sat for 10 mins before took drink order. Sat another 10 mins before took food order. Different server brought out drinks, dripped Bloody Mary’s them all over the menus/table cloth said oops and walked away, we were left to wipe it up. So loud server could not hear us. Had to talk in a raised voice at table to be heard. Sat upstairs, in corner, just a plain walled room with tables. Loud.
We had to catch a show nearby and our waitress was absolutely accommodating and professional. The hostesses were also professional and efficient as well. Great food and great atmosphere. Highly recommended!
We were in town visiting my son (GA Tech)- always looking for great restaurants close to campus to take him out to, and SCK did not disappoint! Super friendly staff, nice upscale vibe without being stuffy. We sat on the covered patio and it was lovely! You are close to the sidewalk/street but I enjoy that. The food was delicious and perfectly prepared. I had the halibut, my 11 year old daughter had the New Orleans peel and eat shrimp (ate the whole thing save the 2 her brother stole), oldest son had the pork chop and middle had the fried chicken. All devoured. The cornbread and biscuits were both delicious. We split an order of the fried green tomatoes which were divine- the addition of goat cheese was a nice surprise. Kids finished the meal with banana pudding (brûléed and with a slice of banana bread on top) and homemade ice cream. I had a cappuccino. We left full and happy. There is a public lot a half block away if you drive. We’ll definitely be back next semester.
First of all I made reservations 3 weeks in advance ,put in for outside seating ,which is an option given . We arrive 10 minutes prior to reservation and the hostess begin to seat us , which was inside I then ask her if we could sit outside because that was what I had ask for 3 weeks in advance, she then replied that was not an option in which it is on website , she was very rude to me and I did not take it any further at the time because to remind I did have guest with me. We sat at table for a few minutes until we finally got a waiter , in which came off as he hated his job. And was again rude . The only thing that made this brunch acceptable was the food , at this point I probably will not go back to the restaurant. I also live with in walking distance and this is where I took my guest , a little embarrassed because I could of Took them somewhere else . Hostess and your staff really need to be more hospitable and Expected more from a restaurant of this caliber.
From the walk into the door the staff was just amazing and accommodating and the food is always amazing !!
Fried green tomato appetizer was wonderful. Entrees left much to be desired for the price. KC Strip came out overdone. Had to be sent back. Manager was apologetic and helpful. Pablo, our server, was awesome! Overall, not a great value. There’s better places for the money.
Drinks are delicious, but the food was just ok in my opinion. My food experience was not up to the hype everyone said. I had the chicken special and it was not bad, but it also wasn't outstanding. The service was terrific and the ambiance was adequate. I would rate it a C+/B-
A little loud for my taste, but everything else was good.
Super crowded but the service and food were great ! Very loud tol
