overall2food4service1ambience1There are a couple of favorite eating establishments in Florence, AL but on this trip we decided to try someplace different. After a Google search of eateries in the area, Sperry's seemed like a good place to try out. Things started off on a wrong note when finding the restaurant proved more difficult than expected, causing us to arrive 15 minutes late for the reservation. Entering the restaurant caused my mind to leap back to the 60's era as it was dimly lit and decorated with dark wood throughout. We were promptly seated even though they showed no record of our reservation from OpenTable. As we entered the dining area, several members of the wait staff were inappropriately congregated in the front part having a casual conversation. Eventually, a waiter sauntered over to our table to take our drink order. Since we just sat down and weren't focused on a drink decision yet, he said he'd bring water and check back again. That was the last of that option. Later, he shuffled back to the table to take our food order. It was obvious we were an imposition and an interruption to his conversation with the other waiters. The food was delivered in a reasonable time and turned out to be well prepared and tasty. Our reluctant waiter eventually brought our checks but we noticed an extra charge for a side dish that shouldn't have been there. This was brought to the attention of the waiter and he said he would check on it. He came back with the menu and said the charge was correct because the one entree we ordered didn't qualify under the overall heading it was listed under. At that time we requested to see the manager. The manager arrived and was very pleasant. He removed the extra charge and apologized for the misunderstanding and the menu confusion.
Although the food was good, we decided it was a place not worth revisiting. Unless some major changes are instituted, this restaurant will have few repeat customers.
