The menu for New Year's Eve day was very limited and expensive. Oh, but so good. Value is low because of the cost per amount.

My party had a lobster bisque, frisee salad, and the terrine! All were delicious. Dinner consisted of the steak, duck and 3 scallops. Without a doubt delicious, but for the price? For dessert, the frozen egg nog souffle was loved by my party. Never had anywhere else, and oh, oh so good. Did not mind paying for that!

Chef and staff were very helpful in accommodating my wife's dietary restrictions (GF & DF), and she said the food was delicious. And, my meal from start to finish was out of this world great!

Booked your dream cottage for its amenities and were extremely disappointed that we could not use the fireplace. There was also soot all over the walls and the tile in bathroom needs to be regrouted, we did love the location. We also dined at the restaurant and felt it did not live up to its reputation as claimed.

My Wife & I loved Sugar Hill Inn. Food was A+ and the flavors perfectly balanced.
Would gladly return again if I’m ever in that part of New England. Highly recommended for a special occasion or intimate dinner.

Despite there being very few patrons the waitress got 1 order completely wrong and reversed to other orders. My salmon appetizer he was supposed to come with bagel chips and it came with some strange crackers that altered the taste of the salmon. The salad was excellent. The steak was good but did not have a lot of flavor. The apple strudel dessert was excellent. This was a very different experience from our last meal there 2 years ago that was outstanding in every way.

Typically when you dine out on a holiday as special at Thanksgiving or any other holiday, the food and the menu don't have many choices and even the best of restaurants can come off mediocre. This was NOT the case with Sugar Hill. We had one of the best meals we have had in recent memory. The choices were fantastic and we loved them all, especially the filet mignon. The fall sangria was also wonderful. Overall a perfect 10 from me! I highly recommend

Beyond our expectations! Delicious food, cozy atmosphere with wood burning fireplace for ambiance, attentive service and an excellent selection of wines made this a memorable dining experience. The dining room is intimate and elegant. The service is relaxed so that we could enjoy each course. The food was plated to perfection. We cannot wait for a return visit.

Taking a break from CoVid by having a safe roadtrip, we planned to spoil ourselves with an “elegant” dinner out...having researched restaurants near Franconia and having stayed in the area before and having observed the Inn while driving to and from our top-of-the hill accommodations...attractive outside, welcoming...it seemed. Made our reservations online...no problem. Arrived on time...no problem. Good greeting on arrival, prompt seating, adhering to CoVid protocols. Service was good...fairly attentive server. We knew the meal prices were high...after all, we were seeking top-notch. Noted that we’d share a salad...which the kitchen didn’t split plate nor were we given two smaller plates on which to transfer our ‘sharing portions’. Thus, we shuttled the salad across the table for ‘my bite-your bite’ sorta like a hockey dosey-do! For our main courses, we decided to each get a different one...she the duck, me the scallops...for $36 and $34. Expected something GREAT...got something disappointing, relatively minuscule, and lukewarm!
The duck arrived just barely warm...and we debated asking for it to be reheated...afraid of what that might entail...in time and in quality. Decided to request that help...10 minutes later (while the other meal was getting cold) it came back - barely warmer than when it departed from us...BUT the squash side WAS warmer! The duck was also a bit grisly (??sp) and, together with the squash and the decorative flimsy greens on top, fairly small and unappetizing. The scallops, meanwhile, on one of those l-o-o-n-g plates, ALL FOUR of them, were likewise camouflaged by sprinkled flimsy greens and with little else...more of a one person appetizer than a full-fledged main course. The scallops, however, even in their cool state, were tasty...even though minimal in number.
We went back to our lodging - disappointed and hungry...and relieved of quite a stash of cash!
No chance we’ll be back on our annual pilgrimage to the area...!!

The food was delicious and so beautifully plated! I enjoyed every bite. A rundown from start to finish: I made a reservation for 6:00 pm weeks in advance for my Husband’s birthday. We dine on the early side as we have an almost five year old. The reservation was rescheduled twice without anyone contacting me. We were able to get in for 6:30, so not a huge issue, but I do wish I would have been contacted. We arrived at the Inn and the receptionist greeted us, showed us the restrooms and brought us to our table. She told us they do not have a kid’s menu as they don’t usually host children. That was fine, but I was a little nervous that we had missed the “no children allowed rule.” I reviewed Opentable and the Inn’s website and did not see a prohibition on children for the restaurant (the Inn itself is adults only). Any fears I had melted away when the hostess brought over colored pencils and a sketch pad for my daughter. So very kind and made us feel at ease. Our server was ok, a little abrupt and cold, but the hostess was far more warm and welcoming. We started with a half bottle of Moscato, which was divine and followed by another half bottle. I had the butternut squash risotto and my Husband had the cheese plate. Both were excellent. The salads we both had were so beautifully plated. This was my least favorite course (because salad), but it was still superb. For entrees, I had the hanger steak and my husband the scallops. I loved everything about my steak and it came with the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever had! So creamy and buttery. My husband said he didn’t love the scallops, but he has an unrefined pallet and prefers Mountain Dew and Cheetos to fine dining. We finished with dessert, and here again, the hostess went out of her way to let us know what was available for our daughter. Dessert was yummy and comforting and a nice finish to the meal. I highly recommend the Sugar Hill Inn.

30 minutes past our reservation time we finally saw our waitress. 45 minutes later we received bread and our wine. After multiple complaints to the hostess we left at 50 minutes post reservation time having not received first course. I hear that the food is incredible, but unfortunately we did not get to sample.

This lovely old inn has placed the bar and restaurant under separate management, and the results are superb. Chef Val is a fearless foodie who can do it all and make it look easy. The menu is diverse, as is the wine list. Dining here was always pleasant, but it has now been elevated to as high a level as anyplace in the state. Well worth the (beautiful) drive.

We went for our 10th anniversary and it was amazing! We ordered a bottle of Joseph Phelps Cabernet Sauvignon to start. We shared a selection of local cheeses paired with accoutrements. The cheese were delicious and paired well with the wine. We then enjoyed the house smoked salmon with caviar creme fraiche which was out of this world. I ordered the scallops with baby tomatoes which were fresh and flavorful. My husband ordered the duck and wouldn’t stop raving about it. We didn’t order dessert as we had something at home, but I’m sure it wouldn’t disappointment. The chef came out at the end of our meal to introduce himself which was a nice touch. The dining room is homey and cozy. We will be back!

This is a beautiful inn that seemed like the perfect place for my husband and I to have a special dinner to celebrate our 33rd wedding anniversary. We arrived early and enjoyed a drink at the cozy bar which was run by Deb, who was very enjoyable and competent. We were in a great mood when we were seated for dinner, so we ordered a bottle of wine and a short while later ordered our food. That's when things went downhill. It took over an hour to get our appetizer and a total of 2.5 hours before we were served our main course. While the food was very good, it was not worth waiting that long for. The inn was not overly crowded due to COVID rules so I can only assume their kitchen was not adequately staffed or capable. I really wanted to like this inn, but unfortunately I cannot recommend it.

Outstanding, Superb, Incredible! As an ex chef it can be hard to find a meal that takes your breath away but Sugar Hill Inn did it. I had the 4 course set menu. Each course was well presented and seasoned perfectly. The amount of food was ideal and I left my table feeling pleasantly full. Add in the excellent service - the server was there when needed but left me to enjoy the food, drink and ambience. The whole experience was worth every penny.

My only complaints are that the employees were not really wearing masks. Also we were the only ones out on the porch (probably because we were about the only ones that were more worried about COVID than the cold) and lights didn't get turned on in a timely manner when it started to get dark. We really felt left out. lol

The food was fabulous. The wait staff very attentive without being overly attentive. Breakfast the Chef came out an asked us how was everything? Both mornings. We thought the room was cozy, bed too hard, pillows to soft. One of the jets in the tub didn't work. We both were looking forward to the shower that had about 9 or 10 heads to find out the ones on the wall wasn't coming out to well, aliitle disappointed. We did find a dead bug on the couch but hey we were in N.H. but I woke up the first morning with bites on me an again figured we are in N.H. we made the best of it all wasn't going to let a few mishaps ruin our trip. The staff very friendly food amazing. If we had to pay full price we really wouldn't have been so understanding.

The room we stayed in was on the second floor. If we were in our twenties or thirties we might find the sloped floors, the multiple changes in floor height within the room, and the toilet tucked under an eve sort of quaint. But we are in our early seventies, and found these conditions downright dangerous.

As for the food, expect a long time from ordering to receiving. My wife's salmon was top notch. but my NY strip steak, ordered medium rare, was thin, tough, and served almost tarter. It had to be returned. Once done, it lacked flavor and was, to my mind, way too thin to be considered NY strip.

Food was mixed in quality. Except for the salad, all portions were very small. The Indian spiced lamb chop had no spices at all, was a tiny strange cut and difficult to eat. The cocktails were very good.

Prices were far too high for the quantity and quality.
