Overall food was nothing too special for a higher price. I had the rainbow trout with wild rice pilaf that had no seasoning and was pretty dry.
I go to Summer House every time I am in Chicago. Tasty, Healthy, and fun!
If you sit in the middle of the dining room, you feel incredibly cramped
Always a pleasant experience, really good food, great staff and awesome atmosphere
Summer House Santa Monica is a very high energy restaurant. It gets a very attractive young clientele. The menu is Mediterranean. The food is good and the prices are moderate. The décor is like a California beach front restaurant. It is very white and light. I recommend this restaurant.
We were there to celebrate my husbands birthday and indicted this when the reservation was made yet no one said anything. As a former rater for lettuce entertain you this was disappointing especially since we were out to celebrate his birthday.
Always a great meal and service at Summer House. We started with the Special, Poke Lettuce Wrap and it was amazing. I always find the Hostesses a bit overwhelmed but other then that we could not have been happier.
Terrific all around
My new favorite for evening mid week
Usually love this restaurant, but our dinner yesterday had lots of issues. Gluten free order delivered with flour crackers. My fish was cold and my wife’s meal had to be sent back and took forever to reappear. I was finished before she got her dinner.
They did give us a cookie to make up for the issues, but that only goes so far.
Worth a try. Worth a try. Worth a try. Worth a try. Worth a try. Worth a try. Worth a try. Worth a try.
Excellent food and service, perfect night out
Excellent food and wonderful desserts. Unique open ambience with glass roof.
Service was OUTSTANDING. knew what we wanted before we did. Great ourdoot spot sat in atrium seating inside with AC bc it was 90... still felt like were we outside.
Unreal the tostadas were great and the gnocchi was on a whole new level! We loved!
Was a great karen lunch and hostess tipped us in on the best table which she gave us !
Very very good! Food is really really expensive for how small the portions are but it’s a great experience!
We had a wonderful experience as always! As we were surprised to see the menu change slightly the wait staff was incredible, helpful, and the food was delicious
Its been by far the most disappointing place I've eaten in Chicago in the last couple of years. My wife and I had an Elote, Tuna tostadas, Gazpacho, Chicken with Polenta and the Grilled Tofu. All plates, and I mean ALL were just terrible. They were totally tasteless, with exception of the Tofu where the only flavor was just the ridiculous amount of salt it had. Can't believe the current online reviews to such a poor cousine.
Our server was excellent Food was delicious (4 out of 4 of us were very pleased with our dinners). I love the setting — great natural daylight, then soft, but not too dark lighting after sunset — perfect! Highly recommend.
Room and ambiance are great. Food is ok, at best. I think Lettuce can and should do better. Nothing remarkable. Went to Oyster Bah afterwards for some Oysters :)
Very good sea food, very good place to go for lunch. Interesting and comfortable setting.
Great wine and dinner was delicious! The ambiance really makes you feel as if you're in California.
Love this place! It’s one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago - the food is always delicious and the atmosphere can’t be beat!
Tried this place twice and will not be visiting a third time. I wanted to like SHSM because the space is really beautiful ... Of course, I've never actually been seated in the 'dining room' under the beautiful glass ceiling. Even with a reservation, booked 3 months in advance, my group of 4 still ended up in the bar area at a high top table. The seats were extremely uncomfortable and there was little table room for all of our plates. When I asked to move because I brought my 61 year old mother (who was visiting from out of town), they said we would have to wait another 15 mins after we had already waited 15 mins, WITH A RESERVATION. The hostess did not ask us if we had a table preference when we arrived and said that needed to be done at the time of booking. How does a guest know to do that?? The food is mediocre at best. Unless you're trying to people watch instead of eat a great meal, don't bother. We waited a ridiculous amount of time for glasses of wine and appetizer of sliced bread and tomato. And they brought out our entrees immediately after dropping our appetizer. The server was busy and rarely stopped at our table. He was trying, but unapologetic. Bottom line - there are plenty of amazing restaurants in Chicago and this is certainly not one of them.
Pop in for pre or post Steppenwolf taste. Nice wine list. All good is healthy, good portions, and shareable of of hungry good size. The seasonal menu of wine and food is also something to try. The gazpacho was chunky with cucumber and other veggies. Rose list is extensive as well.
Saw ant or small fly on cookie display
5 were seated at a round table for 4; had to ask for new table
Restaurant was not Pristeen; looked tired
Food was good
Probably will not return; big disappointment since first visit
Lots of atmosphere and excellent food. Quite noisy at first and then either it got quieter or I no longer noticed it. Just right for a summer lunch on a lovely summer day!
This place has amazing food and drinks. My mom and I went for lunch and we will definitely go back.
We were there for our 10 year wedding anniversary lunch - the ambiance and vibe was great. Food wasn’t out of this world, had the mango salad, plant based burger and poke. As a vegetarian in the City I have been to plenty amazing vegetarian spots - this one unfortunately doesn’t rank too high on the list.
we didn’t expect any complimentary anything - however a “congrats” or mention of the occasion would have been nice to hear . Would have let us know someone took the time to read our reservation.
The baked goods out front were the highlight - especially the vegan options.
Def my new favorite restaurant! Highly recommend! The service was fast and friendly, the space is airy and relaxing and the food was delicious.
The atmosphere makes you feel like your in California just beautiful. The food is very good and the service is top notch.
Summer House Santa Monica was my choice for a business meal with my boss and another colleague. We met in Lincoln Park so it made sense to dine nearby. Summer House offers an inviting street front with open air dining on the street extending back into the light and airy dining room. Service was attentive, friendly and crisp without being intrusive at all. The menu choices were all fresh and inviting in nature. We started with Brussels Sprouts as a small plate, they were greasy but a bit uninspired. This was offset by the brilliant flavor and texture of the Buratta. Just delicious!! While my colleagues opted for a pasta dish and an entree salad I took advantage of the summer specials menu. This was highlighted by a wonderful gazpacho with both flavor and freshness. My entree was the skirt steak, perfectly wood-grilled and prepared to perfection. The chimichurri sauce only accentuated the already flavorful cut of meat.
All in all a delightful summer’s eve experience. Would definitely return if I am in the vicinity again.
Great food, service and ambiance. Our server Stacie was superb! Will definitely dine again & again.
Lovely sunlit room made our eating experience enjoyable
Overpriced mediocre food, nothing special about atmosphere. Not worth it. Hundreds of better restaurants in Chicago.
Me and my sister and my daughter had an early dinner. We got the best table in the house, under the YES. We all had phenomenal food and a great time in a wonderful atmosphere. Our server did let us know that she had been there all day. So she wasn't the most perky server , she was fine. All the other positives of the restaurant made the experience great.
The service and the food were both great. The atmosphere is very fun.
Great Service at Summer House with a delicious brunch selection. Our group of 5 enjoyed a beautiful fruit plate as an appetizer. Omelets were super. The Commuter with sausage was incredible. We all had great hash browns. Tien was our server who took good care of us.
The decor was lovely and the food was fine, but the wait staff were some of the worst I have ever encountered. At one point, while clearing the table, a waiter knocked into my sister, spilling hot chocolate onto the table, her lap, and bag. He gave a mumbled, half-assed apology and then continued on his way, without even trying to help get her cleaned up. Our primary waiter was disinterested, petty, and unprofessional, and our food came very slowly. The only person who spoke a kind word to us was a very sweet and friendly member of the kitchen staff. This restaurant needs to learn to put the right people on the floor, and send the rest to the back or out the door. Also, not a huge deal, but we found the music choices for brunch very odd: it was house music, mostly.
Always a pleasure! A great go to for lunch or dinner. Great for out of town guests.
