Thank you for the most amazing dinner and date night!
If you haven’t been you need to go!! South Surrey’s little gem. No need to drive downtown and pay $30 in parking. The food is out of this world, the service is on point! Our waiter even remembered us from my birthday back in September. It is very obvious Chef/owner Alistair has an incredible passion for what he does and has a team of people who feel the same and bring it all together. Hands down the best last date night before our little one arrives
We were so happy with every bite and sip we had at Tap! We went for a Valentines date and shared the baked Brie appetizer, a special risotto, rack of lamb and a house made chocolate bar for dessert.
The open kitchen is in the dining room. You get a smell of everything that is being cooked and it made us want to sit at the counter and watch like it was a cooking show. The service was fantastic from entrance to exit. Well worth the visit and we’ll be back again for more special occasions.
A great night!
Best restaurant in White Rock/South Surrey for high end dining. This is true fine dining tucked away in the neighbourhood of Rosemary Heights/Morgan creek, yet it is a welcoming dining room and fantastic patio.
The owner/chef/master somm Alistair oversees the friendly and professional staff and he is always an engaging and gracious host. The open kitchen consistently delivers on the promise of the compact yet varied menu. As one would expect based on the pedigree of the owner, the wine list is interesting, varied and reasonably priced, plus corkage is permitted. Truly a local gem. 5 Stars, with ease.
This is a quaint and romantic restaurant with amazing food and a great wine list. I would recommend to anyone
As past customers we expected the high level of service and quality of food, but you dropped the ball big time on this visit. The inexperience of our waiter did not help matters, we were seated in the back room which looked like a garage (concrete floor and all), tables were not set, no cutlery,no flowers, no table clothes, no candles ( we did have reservations) The food was very poor, pork chop was 80% fat and raw, filet was not tender and lukewarm. When we told the waiter our problems, he informed us that the chef said "that's the way it supposed to be". We were neglected most of the evening, he did not ask us if we were ready for the bill, he just dropped it on the table and walked away. Not the valentines day dinner I expected to share with my wife, to add insult to injury, the wine paring was awful. We left the restaurant with our wine glasses half full along with our stomachs.
I feel this may have been a one off bad experience, so I will be back and trust the level of food and service will be as in the past.
This is a lovely restaurant with great neighbourhood ambiance, excellent food and first class service. We have eaten here on several occasions and would not hesitate in recommending Tap. For those consuming wine they have an excellent wine list to pair with you chosen meal. We have never been disappointed in the four plus years we have been going to Tap for lunches, evening meals or for celebratory occasions.
As always both the food and service were fantastic.
Valentines dinner but my wife and I are regulars. We love Tap. Although it’s a bit pricey, the food is phenomenal!
I had Valentine’s Day dinner there, was my 2nd time at Tap. Both times I had fantastic meals as did my dining companion. They had a Valentine’s Day special, a nice Kelowna Riesling, Caesar Wedge salad, black cod, and a lemon tart desert with red Valentine’s Day heats of meringue. Everything was excellent. Highly recommend this restaurant. Service was excellent didn’t feel rushed and staff was great.
We had a very pleasant Valentine's Day evening at Taps
Food was well prepared and presented. Good service as well.
I love Tap we go for special occasions. We felt the main fish a special pasta dish was lukewarm . But everything else was great as ususl
Our party of four thoroughly enjoyed the food and we appreciated the chefs willingness to split main courses between two people. We thought the prices were a bit inflated considering the small portion sizes, however. A nice treat for a special occasion (my birthday!) but wouldn't return on a regular basis as a "go to" restaurant.
We love coming here! Also came for lunch the next day as well. Exceptional service and food experience
We love your restaurant from the ambience to the food ! We all remarked how nice your table settings are, the flowers were exceptionally done. Your restaurant seems like a hidden little gem. We tell our friends if they want a great lunch and somewhere quiet enough so you can hear yourselves talk then you’ve got the place. Each time we’ve been there we get different servers and find them all polite. Can’t beat your free parking either!
I know advertising is expensive but I wonder if once in awhile it would be good. Out of sight out of mind?
Looking forward to our next get together at your digs!
Fantastic first experience at Tap. The food was fantastic. The service was excellent! Very professional and helpful. Allowed us to relax and enjoy our evening. Highly recommend this fantastic gem of a restaurant!
Winter terrine, gnocchi, filet mignon. Every course brilliant. Service feels like family, yet unpretentious and professional. Best neighborhood restaurant in Surrey.
Best restaurant in the South Surrey area. Food is the draw. Excellent wine selection, positive staff
There was a private party at the same time. The kitchen and staff focused on getting their meals to them which meant we waited quite a while between our appetizers and our main course. They were kind and explained but it did make our wait seem quite long. This was the only reason that I didn't give 5 stars for service. One person in our party ordered the cheesecake for dessert. The portion was unusually small. That is why I gave four stars for the value. We would definitely dine here again.
Stump the somm was absolutely entertaining / an added highlight to a delicious meal
I love this place. Chef Alistair Veen and his team have created a thoroughly complete, fine dining restaurant that is worth the modest drive from the city. 'Hands-on' is the best way to describe Chef Veen - he's cooking in the open kitchen one moment, then serving, then decanting wine, then helping with a coat. It's a charming, intimate restaurant with a Euro-slanted menu of tempting dishes that taste as good as they sound. Impeccable culinary technique and unexpected creativity are the norm. Best ever French onion soup. Just as important is a sensational wine list (well priced and covering BC and the World with many, many offbeat gems), and Alistair and his staff are unfussed and unfussy about wine in a comforting way. No wine snobs there, but true and passionate knowledge.
Awesome my favourite place. Al you and your staff are all 5 star thanks.
Food , drinks and service are amazing. Tap Restaurant is a hidden gem.
Poor service on several levels. Food has definitely gone significantly down hill from a once very respectable restaurant in the area
As always the food was amazing!! This was our first lunch experience. The serving staff was inadequate. There was only one server and a bus person. The server was also preparing all the beverages behind the bar. The service was slow. If this is common practice we may avoid having lunch at Tap.
We were out celebrating the Christmas season and my retirement. The food and service were fabulous. We will definitely be back.
We were celebrating another successful year. The food, wine and service were excellent. We will definitely be back!
Excellent service and very knowledgeable on their products
Excellent staff and I liked that the owner circulated around the tables and talked to everyone. The food was very good and innovative and I'll be back to try the Caesar salad with prawns that I saw many people eating!!! I had duck leg and my friends had sablefish and rack of lamb and all were very tasty. I was impressed with the wine list even though I don't drink (get headaches from any alcohol). My guests like the wine a lot. Parking was readily available there which is not always the case. I give TAP a two thumbs up!!!!
Fantastic wine food and service
Such a fantastic spot. Food and service are always exceptional!
Very small restaurant, wasn’t aware that they would have 2 piece live music in such a tiny room, trying to outplay the open kitchen noise. We couldn’t hear/talk at all to our visitors while the musicians were playing, only between sets. (Apparently this occurs only on Wednesday nights). Wine list pretty expensive for a local restaurant, even with the 30% Wednesday night discount....only on bottles under $100, several of which they were out of stock. Perhaps bring purchased wine as corkage is $25 each bottle for limited 2 bottles per table. Very limited dining menu, promoted vegetarian meals mostly had egg in them so very restricted menu for a vegetarian friend. As we were waiting to order, we watched several plates (rack of lamb) go by....all were a funny grey colour (possibly sous vide w/o grilling finish?) and some were sent back (for finishing (?)). Chose NOT to order lamb because of this, instead ordered osso busso which was very bland, not tender (was given a steak knife to cut it with), gremolata topping was made of mostly large pieces of parsley, very little lemon zest and no discernible garlic. Risotto accompaniment was very salty. BUT two guests had outstanding, well prepared large pieces of sablefish......so maybe an off-night for the grilling/meat chef. Didn’t stay for dessert as musicians were still planning to play on. Probably won’t be back at the wine/meal prices w/limited selection.
Food was cold albeit they were quick and very professional in how they handled the situation. We really commend them for their service.
The atmosphere at the restaurant was nice and the food was very tasty.
However, I found it to be a little bit too crowded and what was bothering me the most was the smoke from cooking. There were times when you will see a cloud of smoke covering the entire place even though the range hood was working rigorously. Probably a better ventilation system in place and less tables can transform the place in a better place to go out for dinner.
I have been to Tap before and enjoyed it very much. Was looking forward to this visit as I was treating friends. Not quite up to its usual standard. The service was often awkward with frequent efforts to remove plates that weren't done and at the same time ignoring plates that should be removed. i think that perhaps they had staff in training. The ongoing wiping of the table with a wet cloth was odd made me feel we were being ushered out of the restaurant before we ready.
Th scallops were superb. However the French Onion soup was disappointing - I think they forgot the cheese. My friends returned their mussels to have broth added to them as they were simply in water. The brussel sprouts were mostly potatoes. And the risotto was a bit watery. This is a popular neighbourhood restaurant with a stirling reputation however Friday night was a bit off for the restaurant and unfortunately for us as well .
Small but interesting menu. We had the smoked pork terrine appetizer, my wife had the Osso Buco and I had the duck leg. We shared the daily special dessert.
It was truly a delicious meal.
Tap is our favourite restaurant in South Surrey/Langley. Alister is an excellent chef with a creative menu and skilled team. As a sommelier, his knowledge and experience of wine is simply fun! We visit at least monthly. The service is simply outstanding.
Food & presentation was very good, would recommend to others
