TAVERNA is nestled in Saskatoon's historic downtown core within walking distance of a number of major hotels in the renowned entertainment district. The building was originally the grocery section of the J.F. Cairns Dept. Store dating back to 1907. Taverna still maintains this historical charm and character, serving delicious, rustic, exceptionally well-prepared Italian food since 1969. Simultaneously comfortable and authentic, yet aspirational.

We believe that keeping the food fresh, simple and whole is the secret to a successful dish. Italian food doesn't have to be complicated or elaborate to be spectacular. You just start with high-quality ingredients like: intensely flavored tomatoes, fresh garlic, warm basil, thick golden oil of first pressed olives... and the conscious effort to find them locally grown, organic, seasonal and sustainable when ever possible.

Oh my stars! This was one of the best meals I've had in a restaurant. We went in at opening on a Sunday late afternoon. Our server was delightful. The food was incredible - the focaccia, the appetizer, the main course, and the complimentary birthday dessert - all 2nd to none. Oh yes, and a wonderful espresso to cap the evening. I will be back for another celebration! So glad we went here for a wonderful meal and a wonderful memory.

Love going to Taverna. Unfortunately our waitress forgot about taking our order, we were not provided bread/oil at the start of our meal and our second drink took until the end of our dinner to arrive. The food is always something to desire and we can appreciate it is always a busy restaurant.

I love Taverna, but found the noise and the way tables were crammed in last night very off-putting. The service was incredible and the food was very good. The prices also put this restaurant in the “only go once in a while” category. My favourite appetizer is now $29.

It's a nice place, service was good and quick. However, pasta dish that I had was mediocre, while pasta was home made, meat sauce was lacking flavor or more to say - did not had flavor at all, even bits of parmesan cheese did not save it. Also, the cocktail I had needed a bit adjustment too.

Everything was absolutely brilliant! Service, food, quality, atmosphere, staff, we just can't say enough. Absolutely love this place, would definitely recommend and will be going again!

We were blown away by the delicious food and outstanding service! The food was super quick and absolutely phenomenal! Everything was hand made and fresh, even the iced tea! Robert was our server and he always made sure our drinks and water stayed full! He also helped me choose a different sauce for ravioli as I’m not a huge pesto fan and it was sooo amazing! We highly recommend this restaurant!!

Went with a girlfriend. We shared the scallop’s appetizer and the mussels. The scallop’s were sweet, tender, buttery and garlicky mmmm The mussels were fabulous as always. The only thing is I recall having bread with my mussels in the past. The mussel sauce is sooo decadent. I would have appreciated more bread to sop up that delicious sauce. Overall, Taverna never disappoints. Thank you for providing a great atmosphere for a visit with a dear friend.

As always the food and seevice were exceptional. The place was packed and the energy was infectious. And even though it was super busy Maddy’s attentive service helped make this reunion of friends special. Dishes worthy of special mention: Saltimboca with Cacio e Pepe (subbed for aglio olio); capesante; arancini; zucca (butternut squash ravioli).
