TAVERNA is nestled in Saskatoon's historic downtown core within walking distance of a number of major hotels in the renowned entertainment district. The building was originally a grocery store dating back to 1907. Taverna still maintains a historical charm and character, serving fantastic rustic Italian dishes since 1969.

This is a limited intervention style of cooking, inspired by family tradition. We don't try and upstage our ingredients with elaborate techniques or clutter them up with fancy sauces. It's just simple respect for intensely flavoured San Marzano tomatoes, fresh garlic, warm basil, thick golden oil of first pressed olives and the conscious effort to bring locally grown, organic, and sustainable ingredients to your table when ever possible.

When we arrived we were seated within 5 minutes and immediately service began. Food was outstanding and the overall experience was top shelf. The only thing I could suggest is pricing on appetizers and drinks for what you get is rather outrageous. A small beer for $9.95, 2 tiny bruschetta for $9.95 and a pop for $5 seems too pricey for what you’re offered. Again no complaints it was all good, just a suggestion to look into.

This was our second time attending and it was not a disappointment. Our sever excellent and new all the different dishes on the menu, able to listen to our questions and help us decide on our min courses based on our likes and dislikes. If you’ve never gone I would highly recommend going. Make reservations, we saw numerous couples leaving in disappointment after not been able to get a table just walking in.

Food was good but didn’t meet expectations for the price. Service was slow throughout the evening, nearly a 2 hour service. We were seated next to a table of 3 adults and 7 children, who were quite loud and disruptive during dinner, I don’t fault the restaurant for their behaviour as the parents should have done more to keep the kids from being so rowdy but it did affect our experience. Our Drinks were slow to arrive, and our dinner took over an hour to come to our table and our server apologized for the long wait and later told us our meal got pushed down the line due to large tables meal getting prioritized over ours. We noticed the same table come in to the restaurant and get seated over 20 minutes after us. That sort of standard I find to be rude and improper conduct, larger parties of people shouldn’t get such a priority and should expect for their food. All and all, our experience didn’t meet our expectations and felt we didn’t receive the value that our meal cost, +60/person for a drink, entree and shared appetizer.

We had an unfortunate incident with an allergic reaction which was our own fault not the restaurants (we ordered something without inquiring about the ingredients) and the waiter was more than understanding and went above and beyond to try and help us out ….the service was fantastic.
