TAVERNA is nestled in Saskatoon's historic downtown core within walking distance of a number of major hotels in the renowned entertainment district. The building was originally a grocery store dating back to 1907. Taverna still maintains a historical charm and character, serving fantastic rustic Italian dishes since 1969.

This is a limited intervention style of cooking, inspired by family tradition. We don't try and upstage our ingredients with elaborate techniques or clutter them up with fancy sauces. It's just simple respect for intensely flavoured San Marzano tomatoes, fresh garlic, warm basil, thick golden oil of first pressed olives and the conscious effort to bring locally grown, organic, and sustainable ingredients to your table when ever possible.

Absolutely beautiful and amazing atmosphere. We had an unfortunate incident with an allergic reaction which was our own fault not the restaurants (we ordered something without inquiring about the ingredients) and the waiter was more than understanding and went above and beyond to try and help us out ….the service was fantastic. It was our first time in the restaurant and the food was top quality.

Based on the description and ambience of the Website and other customers review this Restaurant was advertised as a fine dining experience. When we arrived the front staff was not very friendly and didn't even acknowledge us right away. We requested a booth for comfort of the pregnant lady that was with us. The staff was reluctantly accommodating. For fine dining we expected a different atmosphere from the staff. The cutlery and napkins did not reflect that of a fine dining restaurant. The serving staff was not friendly she did not smile once, we felt like we were a burden to her and when asked for recommendation she wouldn't engage. The Food itself was excellent the cook did a very good job. The atmosphere in the restaurant and staff needs to reflect the food prices. Will not visit again.

Excellent food…great service..very friendly, courteous and great timing for delivery of courses.The location is great and menu has good variety. The tomato bisque soup is outstanding . We had a super early reservation. It was for 4:30 PM . We had the warmed olives followed by the mussels with Gorgonzola sauce. We’ve had the musels before so we knew they would be fabulous. But this was our first time having the olives and they were delicious we absolutely loved them. I had the Carbonero with the tagliatelle pasta and my husband had the cannoli baked with cheese on top. He said he was a bit too much food, he wouldn’t have it again with the baked cheese but it was delicious. Our server was friendly, helpful when we were trying to choose our cocktails and knowledgable about the menu. We had the Panna cotta with the Saskatoon berry sauce for dessert. This was a great place to go for Valentine’s Day. This isn’t our first time to taverna and it will not be the last. Thanks so much for making our evening special

I was disappointed in our experience. I made a reservation for the bar area two weeks in advance and upon arrival was told they could not seat us in the lounge because it was already full. Our server was wonderful and the food was delicious. I asked for a plant based dish and received brussel sprouts, spinach and sautéed veggies. It was very good but I was not happy to be charged for three full appetizers which totalled $42.00! My veggie plate was more expensive then almost any of the pasta or main dishes. Overall, I would think twice about going to Taverna’s again.

Atmosphere was attractive and enjoyable, service was excellent and the waitress was very helpful and both explained some of the menu as well as made great recommendations. The food was outstanding and plated very well. They even complimented the dessert for my SO's birthday and made her feel very appreciated and special. Great experience at a high price, but worth it for the occasion and outcome.

The food was excellent, a little pricey but massive portion size. We all took home leftovers. Server was spot on and very helpful. One down side was it was VERY noisy. There was a large group near us (~25ppl) and we couldn’t carry on a conversation at our table. They should close off the entire area with glass for large groups.
