Afternoon Tea at The Assembly House costs £29.50 for one and children’s afternoon teas cost £17.95 for a smaller version of our classic tea and are available for guests aged 12 and under. This is the second time we have been here for afternoon tea. The setting is lovely and the atmosphere was wonderful. It was very busy with many having The Nutcracker afternoon tea. We had two criticisms of the food this time, our cheese toastie was cold and a couple of our sandwiches were dry. The other food was fine.

Our visit was very pleasant, drinks arrived quickly after being ordered. The food was hot and very tasty. Pudding was a large slice of cake, half was brought home in a "doggy" box.

Regular of the assembly house- nutcracker afternoon tea for 3. Was not up to usual standard. The sandwiches were dry and fillings very plain- not enjoyed at all. The scones were absolutely delicious! Had to ask for milk as non was given with the tea. The mint cheesecake could have done with more mint in it.

We all went for the before noon tea as it was a birthday breakfast/brunch. We were not disappointed. My husband and son had the traditional full English and I opted for the twice baked cheese soufflé with creamed haddock. I am definitely ordering that again. I am not an egg loving person and worried it might be runny but it was just perfect. The taste of the creamed haddock blended so well. The rest of the before noon tea was delicious and we took several items home to enjoy later. Definitely recommend it to start a special day.

Been lots of times before at all times of the day ! But very very slow service this time even though every table was not full. We actually asked for our pastries in the end ! Staff still friendly as per usual. Had to ask twice to pay the bill and then they tried to over charge us by over £20 and the girl seemed in a total muddle. Also they ask if it was for special occasion .. it was a 50th birthday .. but then did Nothing.. so why bother asking if it’s for a special occasion . Sorry Assembly House .. little disappointed this time .. although I will still come again .. but maybe not for a while.

Lovely afternoon tea at Assembly House as usual. Just a couple of v small niggles though... We had a table at the back behind the Christmas tree and because of this, we felt a little forgotten by the staff as it took ages to get their attention compared to other tables nearby. Also felt a little more effort could have been made with the theme and decor as other themed teas have been more impressive

We have come to expect a high standard of afternoon tea and we were not disappointed on any level with the Nutcracker themed tea. The attention to detail is always impressive. The service friendly and professional. The ambiance delightful.

Service by Andre was excellent, building beautiful, Shame there’s not a dress code. Sat next to people with trainers on, and it felt less special for it. Mezze was beautiful but lacked flavour. Could have been so much better. Will return and try something else. Good value otherwise.

Disappointed the standard of food was not as previous visits. No dressing for Caesar salad no salt or pepper on the table.pancake very big and thick, but filling ok.fruit scones just fell into pieces as you cut them, cheese scones better. Cheese toastie ok. Had to request table to be cleared. Staff sometimes invisible and lacking a smile. Will we return possibly not

Lovely food! Surroundings were very opulent the only thing I felt let the main dining area down were the window dressings! (Shabby white Venetian blinds!!) surely some beautiful fabric Roman blinds or drapes would look more fitting! They didn’t match the opulence of the room (chandeliers, panel details, furniture, etc) we also felt it would have been nicer to hear the background music a little bit louder.

Booked for afternoon tea for two. We were not disappointed. Friendly staff who were attentive even though they were busy. Food was lovely and freshly prepared. Plenty of tea choices and chance for refill which was appreciated. Only slight niggle was that we had what must be the tiniest table. Everything felt very cramped and slightly unsafe with balancing tea pots etc.

It was booked as a mother/daughter treat for me, a friend and our two young girls. Arrival was fine and the receptionist was friendly. All allergies etc dealt with smoothly. Table was in the main room, lovely setting although fairly loud at times due to the other groups - but to be expected on a Saturday. I had to ask for a clean cup as the one on the table was dirty which was disappointing but I appreciated they were very busy. We had The Nutcracker Afternoon Tea with hot chocolates for 3 of us and tea for one. Drinks were ok, although they all added sugar to the hot chocolate as it was apparently quite bitter and not very chocolatey. Pot of Tea was good. Food was a disappointment though. Having been to many previous afternoon teas at The Assembly Rooms and thoroughly enjoying them, this one did not impress. The main nutcracker was missing off the girls teas and at first we were told we would have to be charged if we wanted one, although they were brought one out when the server checked as it should have been included. Some of the sandwiches were hard on the outer edge and pretty solid on the bread front, as was the small turkey bun and cheese toastie square. The scones seemed almost overdone (as was the Sausage roll) and were again solid and tasteless. The cakes on the top tier were also pretty tasteless with the butter cream having a weird texture. For what we paid I certainly wouldn’t be back in a hurry. Our server was lovely though, efficient and helpful.
