The Bank and Baron Pub
The Bank and Baron is located in the heart of Calgary's infamous Stephen Avenue, the pulse of downtown. This avenue was named after George Stephen, 1st Baron Mount Stephen. He was the financial genius behind the creation of the Canadian Pacific Railway, the President of the Bank of Montreal and is remembered as one of the greatest philanthropists of his time. In honor of the significant history Baron Mount Stephen imparted into the fostering of Calgary's culture , we have brewed The Bank & Baron P.U.B.
The Bank & Baron is a place where a Traditional Public Urban Bar taps into a historical avenue destination. Crafting any event from a momentous occasion to an exquisite celebration can be effortlessly drafted.
Whether celebrating a special occasion with family and friends or hosting a corporate outing, The Bank & Baron Pub can accommodate all your special event needs.View Private Dining Details
Had the fish and chips and the fish seemed a little undercooked.
The pizza and ribs were delicious. Great service. Inside was beautiful. Thanks for the enjoyable evening
One of the best on Stephen Ave. Always amazing service, great food and cheap beer!
We enjoyed dining at The Bank and Baron Pub. Our flatbreads were delicious and the beer battered fries were crunchy. The service was prompt and friendly. This establishment is sited in a former bank and has great ambience. Definitely worth a visit for a drink and/or a meal when in Calgary.
We were very disappointed with the hostess. We arrived early for our reservation and requested a low table since I have difficulty with mobility. She indicated she would seat us at a table the first one available. We went to-the bar to wait. The hostess was right behind us and proceeded to seat 2 other parties as tables became available. We confronted her but her explanation didn’t match what she promised us of having the first available table.
We were traveling to Calgary and this first impression of the city set a negative tone for us.
The atmosphere was very nice, servers were very friendly and had great hospitality. The overall beauty of the history in the building was very exquisite and learned a lot about the history of the building while being shown around! Highly recommend, food was also very delicious!
We ordered fish and chips, a salad and cream of mushroom soup. I am particularly fond of mushroom soup unfortunately it was heavily seasoned with cumin. Rather an odd choice and definitely not worth 13 dollars. The fish and chips were disappointing, small portions, overfried and there was no malt vinegar in the place. The tartar sauce was heavily seasoned with dill. Lovely building but poorly prepared food save yourself the visit.
Wish there were more vegetarian and gluten free options. Service was excellent though!
Had the halibut with mango salsa. Fish was flavourless and the mango salsa wasn’t flavourful enough to compensate.
Bison on the bison nachos was dry and over cooked.
Very slow service. Waited a long time in between drinks, waited very long for the bill, water was never really topped up. It didn't seem that busy inside so perhaps there was not enough staff. Our lunch took over 1.5 hours when usually it should be 1 hour tops. Food was great but the service was much too slow.
Service is slow and awkward. They kept changing servers and not sure why.
Good food, nice atmosphere and food came very quickly which is important when your on lunch break. Will definitely be back.
Well it wasn't very busy at lunch time but they still sat us at probably the worst table. There were only 100 other options but if that's where they wanted to put us message, loud and clear. Ruined the experience, although the food is nice so I'll probably be back I just won't recommend it as much. The maple bacon wings were absolutely delicious highly recommend
Service was excellent, food was really good and overall a great place. Only strange part is that food always seems to take a long time here. We've eaten here 3x in last couple months and each time it has taken a bit longer than usual to get food, which can be ok given the list of cocktails but not if you're on a tight timeline.
This place is amazing! The food is to die for! They did a wonderful job with the ambiance!
Try the steak bites! You won’t be disappointed!
Food was fine, we had wild boar pizza and truffle and parmesan chips. We thought the chips would be warm, but they were not: no big deal very crispy and tasty. Wild boar flavour and meat in the pizza, was very tasty. Server was excellent, attentive and friendly.
The down side is the tight quarters and noise level. We were seated at a table for two on a row of similar tables that looked like that as an afterthought they were squeezed in between the bar and the booths. We had to be careful we didn't elbow people going by. It was date night for my wife and me before going to a concert at Jack Singer, but we really couldn't enjoy a conversation over the noise level. We decided to forgo an after dinner drink and had one at Jack Singer instead.
I would likely go back for a drink, but not dinner.
Don’t eat here if you are hoping for your salad to arrive less than 30 minutes and taste like cleaning products were washed but not rinsed ... or if you wish to have your entree of dried and chewy halibut served served at least 60 minutes after placing your order...I got up twice to ask the status... I was not alone ... as the others were waiting excessive too.. perhaps communication would have improved my review... but that was not there either ...disappointment...
We caught them on a busier-than-normal Sunday evening so they seemed a little short-handed, but that was made up for by Zach's enthusiasm in greeting and interacting with *everyone* that came in. We had made a dinner reservation for 7:30 and he was thoughtful enough to call us while we were on our way into Calgary to let us know the kitchen closes at 7 that evening. We saw Zach take so much interest in making sure people were happy with their meals and drinks that we even asked if he was one of the owners (he treats the place like it's his own baby). We'd definitely recommend it!
Food was ok, not sure who they want as clientele, some entrees were very pricey. Very loud music, tough to converse.
i waited 20 minutes till the hostess finally came over and asked if i wanted a drink..yes..then waited another 10 mins and finally asked a waitress if she was for our table..told no..but she came back and said she was....she was very good after that. my cousin ordered the house white-on wed half price..they had run out..it was 4:30 ..seriously? i ordered the gyozos...they came....and i waited at least 5-10 mins for cutlery...needless to say the goyzos were slightly cold by then..anyway....after that..cousin ordered soup...but it took at least another 15 mins...all in all...bad bad bad...oh and my other cousin a pizza..that was raw in the middle...anyway...

I love reserving a table at bank and baron cause then you get the booths (usually). They're more private and great for 3 to 6 people.. also they have happy hour options that are tasty and varied enough though not too numerous.
Really nice environment. Fun atmosphere Enjoyed watching the sporting event there but tv’s could be a bit bigger.
The atmosphere of the pub is great. Service was also great. The food was basic pub food which I expected a slightly higher quality. Everything was great but the food.
Food and drinks tasted good. It’s a really neat looking space. Service was mediocre, but not the worst.
Had the steak and it was a perfect size, some vegetables on side would be great...
Rice bowl was really big but it was also good.
Great space, great specials for wings and beer. Would recommend for sure
Food was good and the location is terrific. Server forgot my starter salad but it was super busy. Decent place
Great food. The servers were awesome and we reay enjoyed our meal. Thank you
The food was ok but the service was so poor.
The restaurant was busy and we were sat between the bar and booths which was loud and busy. I asked in my reservation for a quiet table which this wasn’t, I bought this to the staffs attention and they immediately apologized and moved us to a quiet section that wasn’t open yet where we received fabulous service, and good food. The staff were attentive friendly professional and responsive we left a tip commensurate with our great satisfaction with the level of service.
First experience here and I absolutely loved it. Will definitely come here again!! :)
Went there for after work drinks on a Friday. First time visiting. We had Keisha as our server and she was great, very attentive and quick. Would go again.
Great food - unfortunately the table next to us was annoying because of their language. We could have moved I guess.
Service was great with large group.
I have been wanting to try Bank and Baron for a while and unfortunately I was disappointed by the experience. I made a reservation and when we showed up we realized they had just finished an event and the entire place was quite chaotic. We waited by the front door for 15 minutes before anyone even approached us. We got our drinks about an hour after we arrived and food about 40 minutes after that. The food was hot which by that point was a pleasant surprise. The waitress did the best she could based on the state of the place. She was friendly and definitely helped with the initial frustration. The floor was littered with dirty napkins and the tables surrounding us were not cleaned off the entire time we were there. I wish we would have been warned that they had a large event happening that night that was scheduled to end the exact time we made the reservation. We probably would have waited and tried Bank and Baron another day and perhaps had a better experience. There are so many great places to eat in Calgary and this experience was very mediocre in comparison to several other options.
Hi! Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We apologize that your first experience with us was a negative one. We take full responsibility and should have blocked off the reservations until at least 9pm rather than 8:30pm so we could have had more time to prepare the space after our anniversary party. We hope you come back soon to give us a second chance!
Our server started out great, but then she was mostly absent after our order was taken. Maybe she had too many tables? We never received our appetizer and she never came to offer us another beverage, which I would have bought! Food and ambience were great.
We had a Valentine’s Day 4 course meal. Food was all really good and service was great except following getting home me and my partner got sick really sick.
Kind of disappointed with my experience at the Bank and Baron. The food was mediocre and our server was extremely rude and impatient. If you want good service and more food for your buck I would not recommend this place. The restaurant itself was very neat looking...but again better places to eat in the downtown core.
Hi Kristine, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. I would like to apologize for your most recent experience with us. The Bank & Baron strives to provide excellent food and service and we are disappointed to hear that we missed the mark. The food was good and the service was prompt and efficient . The server knew her menu and her skills were good. She had a little bit of an edge to her that was something that surprised me. We were asked to leave our table by the hostess after we had been there for our lunch and an extra drink. This was a little bit disappointing to me as I had made the reservation weeks earlier. The hostess said that there was another reservation for our table coming so we left. There were lots of other tables open so I was confused. Overall our experience was good but Sadly we will not be coming back next convention.
Hi Jocelyn, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. As teacher's convention is a very busy day for us, we do limit reservations to a standard 2 hours in order to give other guests the opportunity to dine. The other empty tables were likely reserved as well. We do apologize for this inconvenience, however if you do decide to join us again next year, I would be happy to make a note that you would like to reserve a table above and beyond the 2 hours. Thanks so much!
