The Bank and Baron Pub
The Bank and Baron is located in the heart of Calgary's infamous Stephen Avenue, the pulse of downtown. This avenue was named after George Stephen, 1st Baron Mount Stephen. He was the financial genius behind the creation of the Canadian Pacific Railway, the President of the Bank of Montreal and is remembered as one of the greatest philanthropists of his time. In honor of the significant history Baron Mount Stephen imparted into the fostering of Calgary's culture , we have brewed The Bank & Baron P.U.B.
The Bank & Baron is a place where a Traditional Public Urban Bar taps into a historical avenue destination. Crafting any event from a momentous occasion to an exquisite celebration can be effortlessly drafted.

View Private Dining DetailsWe had a Valentine’s Day 4 course meal. Food was all really good and service was great except following getting home me and my partner got sick really sick.
Kind of disappointed with my experience at the Bank and Baron. The food was mediocre and our server was extremely rude and impatient. If you want good service and more food for your buck I would not recommend this place. The restaurant itself was very neat looking...but again better places to eat in the downtown core.
The food was good and the service was prompt and efficient . The server knew her menu and her skills were good. She had a little bit of an edge to her that was something that surprised me. We were asked to leave our table by the hostess after we had been there for our lunch and an extra drink. This was a little bit disappointing to me as I had made the reservation weeks earlier. The hostess said that there was another reservation for our table coming so we left. There were lots of other tables open so I was confused. Overall our experience was good but Sadly we will not be coming back next convention.
Great first visit!! Lots of room. Big tables. Great menu and drink choices for everyone. Service was attentive and accommodating when we had one extra person added to our original reservation.
Considering that it was early, 530 PM and there weren't too many customers, the service was really slow. Waited too long for our ordering if first drink and then food.
Great value visit on Thursday evening with half price bottles of wine and $10 pizza. Very attentive server, too.
Best steak bites in town!! A neat atmosphere- take a peek at the vault in the basement.
Good service and food. Was a bit loud for our lunch meeting but that is to be expected when busy.
My entree was very very spicy. It was not advertised as a spicy dish but when it came to the table it was not edible. Our appetizer was great and a great sharing size.
The Montreal Smoked Sandwich was outstanding! It's not traditional, but a great find!
My complaint is that it is a noisy venue, but to be expected for a pub.
Nice place for lunch; food was a bit salty. Wasn't too busy and noise level was fine. Unique building, but I always seem to get seated at those small tables squished against the bar. Great service.
Love taking people here for the first time, such amazing architecture!
Plates were really big and we had a tiny table so that was awkward, and we felt a little squished where we were
Great experience I’ll make sure next time I book the managers room ahead of time. Thanks for everything.
Very disappointed in the lunch - one of us had the sliders, burger was so well done the edges curled up, one had the Thai Rice Bowl (our guest) noticed he left about half of it. I had the Heirloom Tomatoe Salad (the same tomatoes that I can easily buy at Safeway - the were mushy and hugely disappointing.
Had a reservation and then seated at a high table that was open... lots booths were empty.... server was friendly but slow...lots of patrons for pre Xmas party drinks... bartender was loud and used fowl language that guests could hear
Kayla our server took amazing care of us all night.
We were a group of 8 people and the food and drinks were good, but the service was very slow. We were left with empty drinks a lot of the time and had to ask to be served.
Happy hour deals and service for our group was good. Love the huge booths!
My daughter and I were going to Theatre Calgary and this place offers 10% discount for theatre goers. Close to c-train and parking so very handy. The food and drinks were good and tasty. It was Saturday so not so busy at 6 PM which is good for speedy service and food delivery. Portions were generous. Thank you.
It's a very silly process to resrve a table then to go and find your own at the resturant because it's was a Flames game night.
Amazing fried chicken!!
Wedge salad came as dressing soaked lettuce on the plate. Server kept interrupting loudly and suddenly. Not good value, easy to avoid this place in the future.
Had a great evening with my gals here, we loved the ambiance and decor, very ‘Gatsby’. They even followed thru with my request for a small center piece at the table! The food was good and their sangrias are worth returning for!
Also loved the fact they you’re able to peek around an old bank vault on your way to the restrooms.
Thanks Bank and Baron Pub! Will be returning.
Literally every beer on draft was flat.
The restaurant was very quiet for a Thursday lunch. Service was slow, meal was slow getting out to us. The meal was tasteless, couldn’t get salt or pepper because there was no one around. When leaving we noticed the patio was busy - guess that were all the service was. Won’t be back anytime soon.
Good steak sandwich. Patio was a great spot to people watch and hang out with friends
We sat on the outdoor patio, very enjoyable. Service was excellent, would highly recommend the Chicken Mulligatawny soup.
Food and ambience were fantastic. I’ve had some pretty mediocre at best meals here in the past so was pleasantly surprised this round. Unfortunately, consistent with every prior experience I’ve had here, it was understaffed for lunch and service was rushed and impersonal. Still pretty pricey for what you get but all things considered it did it’s job this time around and if the right occasion comes up, I will probably be back.
The restaurant is gorgeous but the prices are high and portions small. They had no specials during the 10 days of the Stampede, except a $5 light beer. Yuck.
The staff was really great though and we enjoyed ourselves even after spending a small fortune.
The prices are really quite high compared to other places on Stephen ave.
Food was ‘OK’, service was iffy. Great happy hour pricing on chicken wings though. Nice table outside overlooking the busy and interesting street.
Happy Hour rocks. Food was good. Atmosphere was awesome. Our waitress was sloooow. Not the most attentive. I included $1 for a tip but honestly I feel I should not have even done that.
I was pleased that I could have a gluten-free burger, which I enjoyed.
My husband was disappointed that his steak was only warm.
The waiter apologized but did not offer any compensation.
Was disappointed that it was so noisy, we were a group of friends gathering together after many years of not seeing each other. The service and staff were great but it was too noisy to hear each other and there was no other space that they would let us sit in. Food was good
Great evening!!
It was great. Our server was amazing and the food was delicious. We told her we had theatre tickets and she was very prompt and accommodating.
No service at all
Great atmosphere, good service, no complaints. The employees are very kind and welcoming. The interior of the restaurant is also very nice considering it used to be an old Scotiabank.
When we came in it was quite empty. We waited a very long time to put in a drink order, then waited a very long time for the drinks to arrive. Then we waited for a long time to have our order taken for food. Then we waited for well over an hour for the food to arrive. At this point it was starting to get busy. Our server did not offer us more drinks, we did ask another server, but overall most of us had one drink in around a three hour period. I asked for the burger to have extra crispy bacon (keeping in mind a burger and fries is $20, I don’t think this was unreasonable). When the food arrived, I specifically asked our server if the burger I was receiving was the one with crispy bacon. She paused for a second, then said it was. It wasn’t. That went to the person beside me. We switched and the food was excellent, around the table. I did mention it to her at the end of the meal, when we got the bills. She said it was the fault of the kitchen, as they had told her that. No apology. Overall, some of the worst service I have ever had in Calgary, but perhaps it was an off night. We would return for the food.
