the bqe restaurant & lounge
God food good vibes good service.
For a quiet Tuesday night, the service was poor. Long wait time for appetizers and food came out on top of it (order separately).
The noise level was extremely loud. I had to practically stand next to the hostess and yell in her ear to tell her about our reservations. Will never go again on a Sunday.
Celebrated my birthday this past Sunday and the atmosphere was great! The music was great and the food was terrific! The only thing I would change is better security for outside in the parking area. Someone vandalized my car and several others. Overall this is a great place for a celebration.
I celebrated my birthday here with my friends. I understand that serving large parties can bring about some inconveniences, and we experienced this at BQE. We were originally seated outside at a table meant for 8 guests although my reservation was for 12 people. We asked the server to be moved, but were told no. However, once the manager arrived and noticed how cramped we were, she moved my party to the larger table. After ordering, it took over an hour for our food to arrive. Despite this, we enjoyed the music, drinks, and food overall.
I saw this resturant was highly suggested and wanted to try it i am from Maryland. Last time I visited I didnt make a reservation and there was a three hour wait. I came back I made a reservation weeks in advanced. We sat outside in the back. It was a nice october day. The patio is covered with a tent with some couches and a small bar. Good music.
We were not greeted by anyone for over 10 minutes. Our server was a guy, who was also bartending .Honestly the whole staff was interesting to watch. They didn’t seem to work together as a unit. The managers seemed confused, the host, and down the line as if they dont operate 7 days a week.
I work in DC as a bartender and it’s interesting to see the difference in the industry when you go to different states. I dont think there was a emphasis on service here and more so turning tables.
I had the shrimp and grits which was good. That was the only good part of my experience. I won’t go back. I didn’t fully dislike my experience, I enjoy my DC brunch instead.
Excellent soul food well prepared. Fresh attractive presentation by a skinny chef
We were old folks eating early so Restaurant was fairly empty.
The food was great, but the service leaves something to be desired. Definitely a party spot and decent crowd for day partying. You need a reservation for sure.
Great place, set your reservation & arrive about ten minutes before & that way you can walk right in & be seated. Unlimited mimosas will get you were you want to be so be careful & food is good. Servers are nice too & DJ was cool. The people were nice on the inside as well.
The food was amazing and our waitress Jasmine was phenomenal! She truly made my birthday a wonderful experience!
The food and service were good. Ambience was not the best. Plastic cups for water was not good. Overall good experience
Good times as usual. Wait staff was good and the food was amazing.
Outstanding!!!! Loved it. Food was awesome and the turn up was even better. Must go!
Waitress was awful after 8pm its super loud
I have been to the restaurant in the past and loved the food, so I decide to do my bday brunch with my friends there. This time the food was below my expectations, the chicken wasn't seasoned or cleaned properly. It had no flavor like they just fried it with no salt, no pepper or anything else. It was just bland and so were the hash browns. I was very disappointed. Now the red velvet waffles were really good as usual, I just wish the chicken was too. The music and ambiance was good, it had a really nice vibe with the live dj .
Loved my waiter ! The food was not the best. A lady for the kitchen even brought my food and told me I have to wait on one more piece of waffle 🤦🏾♀️ Why the hell bring out an incomplete order. And when she finally brought it I didn’t want it anymore. The music and the vide was nice even sitting out side but the food was trash.
I was going to see a band play gritz and jelly butter the show was supposed to pkay second set at midnight and when I arrived at 11:40 the band was leaving very disappointing but outside of that lounge is very nice
Tables not available even after making reservations and splitting up my party. Offered complimentary drinks as usual. If it wasn’t for the live music I wouldn’t keep going back. Terrible service. Door hostess rude & very unprofessional as usual. I enjoyed the band.
I made a reservation to enjoy my birthday dinner with family. First, my husband ordered a cognac and pineapple juice and had to wait over 25 minutes for his drink because we were told they had to get the pineapple juice. Then we ordered short ribs and the center was literally ice cold. The waitress took it back and when she returned the meat was steaming hot but the center was just barely warm. The meat was clearly microwaved. Another person in our party's drink took a really long time and again we were told they had to get the ingredients. Then the waitress brought us each an individual check with gratuity included (there was only 4 of us). She never asked if we wanted seperate checks and it was just bizarre. The service was subpar at best. It's unfortunate because as a black woman and a New yorker, I wanted to support. This place has a nice party vibe, but is lacking in the quality of their food, drinks and service. We would not return and none of us would recommend BQE to anyone!
Very nice and pleased. I wish we could have had the reservations longer. Other than that I was well satisfied. 5 stars
Amazing experience every time I go!!!
Love the experience. Made reservations and came right in to a seat. Food came out really fast and environment was a whole vibe!
This is where I had my birthday brunch for my 40th. The atmosphere is very intimate, the food is amazing and the music is off the chain. If you are a New York native or want know how it feels to dine in a almost club like atmosphere, then this is your place.
The music was too loud we had to scream to hild a conversation and the lady I was with had to send her food back twice because it was cold. The tables are much too close together. There was a young lady at a table next to us having a birthday party. She was twerking with her behind right next to our table cause we wer smashed in there together. They had a hooka and were blowing it in our faces thats how close we were its like we were all together. The food is amazing but the atmosphere is off putting for a nice pleasant brunch on a Sunday.
We didn’t enjoy our night at BQE. The food was just okay, and the drinks were overpriced (not to mention they took forever to arrive). The service was slow- all of our food came out at different times (some 15-20min apart). The layout of the restaurant doesn’t flow-we were placed at a table in the corner where people line up for the restrooms, on the opposite side of where the stage and DJ are set up. I’m just annoyed with the experience. I highly doubt I will return.
First impression was with valet service, which charged us $20 instead of the advertised price of $10.
The food was quite good, although food service was a bit slow at times. Sides weren’t all brought to the table at the same time, which made us complete some parts of our meals before others.
Although we had a 6 o’clock reservation, my out of town guests were forced to wait outside for about 10-15 minutes because they were still mopping the restaurant. Since the restaurant has very strict policies on reservations and arriving on time, it’s my expectation that the restaurant also should open on time.
Really nice vibes!
Kwanza our host and Gerald our server were simply amazing. Every food item we ordered from the turkey wings, peach cobbler, catfish tenders, steak and cheese egg rolls, were delicious. I would definitely recommend this place for any event!
Great food! Mac and cheese is good! Big serving with Lots of cheese...has smoked cheddar so some will love it others may not. Turkey wings....big serving....well seasoned and moist. Yams are good and sweet. Wings are small and crispy which is a plus! Service is excellent! We visited on a Thursday at 5:45 with reservations. No wait....food came out fast and hot.
The food music and ambience was great. Took a long time to get our drinks, drink presentation was poor.
Food was great but with a reservation we waited an hour to be seated for a party of 3. I would go back but maybe during the week.
First time going to BQE as my only downside is that if you are a party of two you get stuck by the bathroom high tables. Ask the host can we be placed somewhere else as she never came back. Yes, the place was a packed house but never can tell who the guest is. From my observation to have good seating that is in a neutral area is having a big party. On a positive note, the food is great and do not have to wait long.
No one picked up the phone for an hour while we tried to call to say we were running late. Finally received a call back as we parked and had to explain that to the hostess so we didn’t have to wait. Once inside, she asked my name and flipped me off.
Waitress was wonderful though!
We sat at the tabletops and people were blowing hookah in our face over our food while we were eating.
1. The valet is inefficient and unnecessarily expensive
2. The hostess looks like she just rolled out of bed. Her hair is not combed and her clothes are ill-fitting. We could see her bra. Not the straps...the actual cups. On top of that she is not pleasant or cordial. As the face of the restaurant, she should be more welcoming.
3. There is only one bathroom stall in the entire restaurant that services both men and women. That's obviously not enough. Idk what management is thinking.
4. The collard greens are sweeter than I like so take that into consideration.
5. The sausage in the shrimp and grits looks and tastes funny.
6. The yams are fire.
7. The catfish is acceptable.
8. The Brooklyn Lemonade is pretty good.
This is a New York establishment so don't expect the southern hospitality unless Wallace is your waiter. He's the best!
I've been once before, with family for brunch, but they were packed so we had to go somewhere else. But I liked the atmosphere so much that I had to try again. This time the earliest availability was 6pm. Not a good idea. They had just opened back up after brunch and the vibe was way off. It's more of a restaurant setting at that point. Not at all what I wanted for my friend's birthday. I'll try one more time, for brunch, before giving up completely. But I was definitely disappointed in the whole experience.
The staff was really nice though!
Service was not the best. Reservation couldn’t be found at first — seemed very confused. Food and vibe is amazing though. Fire Marshall probably would’ve shut it down if they came - bar area way over capacity. They need security or something.
Me and my class mate was celebrating becoming nurse practitioners
Great food. They marked me as cancelled when I was present and seated. I reserved for high top but that sat us in couch section but it still worked out. Overall, good food, great DJ, decent hookah, service was slow at some point but overall good.
Excellent food great music and nice environment.
I love the red velvet waffle and chicken. DJ was amazing.
