The Carbon Bar Ratings and Reviews
The restaurant itself is quite beautiful with a large open space and double height ceiling. Although I very much enjoyed my meal, overall, I wanted the food to be just a little bit better - more seasoned, hotter temperature, more interesting.
I would give it another try on a less busy night to see if the experience overall is better.
Get the price fix meal. Soooo much food. So good. Staff is amazing.
Fantastic, knowledgeable, kind and friendly service Creative and delicious food. The booze bites desert (pictured here) was just the topper for a great meal
Very pricey menu. The item that we really felt was totally unreasonable was the cost of 3 tiny frogs legs - ridiculous. The cauliflower was also very overpriced considering the tiny bowl it came in.
Overall though, the food and service were great. Our server made our son feel like a king (it was his birthday)!
First time dining here. Excellent food accompanied by great service. Staff were great with recommending dishes to try. Will definitely be returning.
Took my boyfriend for his birthday. Was shocked they brought out a dessert with a candle that we never ordered or asked for and they charged us for it
Everything we ordered was cold. Cold eggs Benedict that had to be sent back. Followed by a luke warm Benedict. Cold water for tea that was clearly cold when it was poured. And a full price bill at the end of it all.
Could feel the cold draft from outside. Other than that, love this place!
The food was tasty but I was expecting the entree that we ordered to be really hot because they came on cast iron dish but the food was just warm not even hot. Overall it was an okay experience nothing too special about it. Nobody even asked who is celebrating a birthday even though I booked it for that occasion. Thank goodness it wasn’t busy so we were able to enjoy each other’s conversation.
This is my new favorite place to eat. I recommend this awesome to everyone. The KFC is to die for and the beef melts in your mouth.
This was my first time visit the restaurant, it gave me a good impression of the restaurant's atmosphere; cozy, warm lighting and high ceiling. Food was good, and servers were friendly excepted one of the receptionist. I felt her a bit rude and not friendly, when she was asking me wanted to hanging my coat or not, I didn't hear clearly. I got her meaning after she asked me two more times without smiling and unfriendly. I think a good attitude of the receptionist that can make customers have a good start of the dinner. Finally I will recommend this restaurant to my friends.
I didn't realize one of my guests was vegetarian until it was time to order! Such a pleasure to discover many options on the menu for this diner- the sides, the cauliflower etc. Thankyou Carbon Bar for a comprehensive menu!
This is our second time at the restaurant and it was another great experience. We were there two years ago and the Manager, Sam and one of the servers, Johnny, remembered us. They did a great job dealing with our youngest sons nut allergy and modified our dinner accordingly. Overall another great experience.
The food was amazing. The design and decor is awesome. It was surprising to see such high ceilings when from the street it looks so small. I would definitely return.
Great service. Convenient location. Close to the subway. Green Ps near by. Trendy decor. We ordered the frog leg, kfc, cornbread, brisket, ribs and the skull, they all tasted great. A little on the pricy side though but will definitely come back for some special occasions.
First time here- we sat for a good ten minutes before anyone came to the table to say hello and offer us water. The service was dodgy throughout the night. Seemed like the servers were sharing the section but there was zero attention to detail. We sat a few times with drinks empty. I had to keep looking around trying to get a servers attention. Our Mac and cheese arrived COLD the server never came to do a quality check, again I had to flag someone down and then the server said she would take it away and have it heated up!!! (What??) sorry but this isn’t Denny’s. I stacked our dirty plates because we were waiting for our server and when someone did show they were only going to take a portion of the stacked dirty plates until I suggested they also clear the dirty side plates....the list of things goes on. BAD service. Need to be retrained by management and go over service expectations.
The smokehouse food is to die for and their signature cocktails are fantastic and we had stellar service from Luca
Very good experience at the Carbon Bar. Food was excellent, service was great and noise level was surprisingly low considering high ceiling open room. They have some well designed sound absorbing features it appears.
The Carbon bar has a phenomenal space. The combination of super high ceilings, both large and intimate light installations, lush leather booths and a general "mad men 50s + 60s meets 2017" vibe really wowed us when we walked into this place.
The energy is very welcoming and our server was personable, funny and attentive.
As for the food. We had the Caesar salad, the pit masters meat platter and the cornbread. The salad was crunchy and light, and the meat was decadent and juicy. The brisket was a touch too fatty for my taste but my date enjoyed it. The cornbread was good, but almost too heavy.
Overall it was a great (and deliciously boozy) experience. If it weren't for the long wait to be seated in the beginning of our visit I would've given this place a higher score.
Great atmosphere, delicious food that came in good time, fantastic service
Convenient downtown location
Definitely going back to Carbon bar
Wanted to do dinner but opportunity came up for brunch- loved it! Great service!!!
Excellent food. Fabulous bbq and seafood. Thoughtful menu. Great creative cocktails. Great service. What’s not to love? I would eat here every night until I had a coronary bypass
Great atmosphere. Great service from hostess to server to water and clean up person. Great food. Love the sharing plates. Reasonable priced. Love the building - high ceilings, original walls. Great overall experience. Highly recommend.
We had an amazing time at the carbon bar! The food and cocktails were next level delicious. The K.F.C. Cauliflower was sooooo good. The service was great - fast, friendly, and helpful. Warm and inviting ambience. We would not have changed anything. 10/10.
Atmosphere was very cool. All food was on point! Our friends who are extremely picky absolutely loved there meal. Will be back soon and often!
Service was impeccable. The food looked great although some flavours didn't match up to what was expected. Decent meal none the less just nothing truly mind-blowing.
Too salty. I was eating brine.
We were two couple dining the other evening in -12 weather. The room felt warm and cozy even the the ceilings are very very high. All the wait staff were exceptionally giving, knowledgeable and worked together to create a lovely evening for us. One thing in particular was there wasn't any upselling. My husband kept saying we'll have two or three and one of those. Our waitress Shelly continued to hold him back which was appreciated by all of us. Even the room is massive The sound did not carry. It was easy to carry on a conversation with just enough buzz around to feel like it was a happening place. The food was delivered timely and met our expectations. The cauliflower dish was delicious as was the bbQ for 2. We shared everything and were completely satiated. Carbon BAr is refreshing break from poor service and stale ambiance that we all know too well.
A favourite to recommend. This time we brought an out-of-town guest.
Great ambiance, service and food.
We usually get the Pit Master platter and a couple of appetizers. This time we tried the Experience - fantastic!
An opportunity for improvement is to expand choices in vegetables - the menu is meat-heavy even for one who enjoys everything, meat and vegetables.
I had read the reviews so i went in with high expectations and i was not disappointed. The KFC, peppers and duck tacos appetizers were incredibly tasty. The BBQ brisket, chicken and ribs were again just so good. Lauren was our server and I would be hard pressed to find a better server anywhere. the four of us were raving about the dinner as we walked to massey hall - convenient . adjust the expectations when you look at the outside but inside its large and wide open with a cool vibe and the food was absolutely spectacular.
Service and food was great! Hostess never asked to take our coats and weren’t very friendly.
The food is unusual but in a very good way in terms of type and selection. The KFC is a must.
Excellent food and service. Good menu selectio, lots of tasty apps.
Great food and service was great. Only problem.. I told them it was a birthday dinner in advance and whoever called me said she would leave that in the notes but nothing was done? We were just given our bill and left. Normally I would’ve made a fuss about it especially when I made the reservation a week ago and confirmed the birthday two days prior but I didn’t want to spoil my SO’s birthday with a situation like that.
Other than that, the food was incredible and service was excellent. Just wish they actually followed through when I decided to bring my SO to this restaurant for her birthday.
We had a wonderful dinner experience. And Sam rolled out the whiskey bar which was amazing! We will be back!
We enjoyed the mixed meat platter! I asked the server if accompanying pickles were made in house. She said “no”, confidently. I ferment pickles so it’s a curiosity of mine. She then returned and said “I lied, the pickles are made in house”. Then I asked if they were fermented and raw/unpasteurized. She finally confessed to not knowing that answer. I eventually got an answer - they’re raw and properly fermented. Delicious & probiotic rich! And the chef who made them is probably proud enough to want the server to know how they were prepared. K, here’s the thing - if you don’t know your product, then don’t lie to me. I’d prefer an honest “I actually don’t know, but let me get an answer for you.” Then, when I had time I’d brush up on the menu details. I’m a server and I take pride in genuine product knowledge and sharing that with the guest. Anyhow, at the end, a sullen and stiff person started processing our credit card. Had a dinner jacket on. Maybe a manager?? He didn’t even look at us. I asked, “Hello, are you an employee here?”, just to be acknowledged! Hilarious. The vibe at the front desk is also tense and lacking a generous warmth, which I don’t think is too much to expect upon an initial greeting. Great food, friendly enough waiter, good cocktail menu and fairly good wine offerings. Just needs a little work on the people front.
I can't wait to go back to this place! Although it was super busy, our food came out quickly, they stayed on top of our drinks and checked on us just often enough. THE FOOD IS GREAT!!! If you like southern comfort food this is one of the best spots in Toronto. I love going out to local spots all over the city, and this is a gem out of the hustle of the core downtown. The only small issues was a server (not our waitress) brought some drinks over to our table and spilled quite a bit on one of our jackets. He didn't say anything and nor did my friend. However, when my friend went to put on his coat, he realized it was actually quite a bit of drink on his coat but luckily his coat is dark. Accidents happen though. We didn't say anything about it.
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Toronto! It looks small on the outside but it’s big on the inside. The food is amazing ! The platter is a must! They have a great selections for drinks.
After all the good reviews I finally got to try the Carbon Bar and it did not disappoint. Very plain on the outside in a drab area, but inside it was fabulous. Definitely bigger on the inside. The brisket was some of the best I have had in Toronto. Friends had the BBQ combo and really enjoyed the friend chicken. I definitely recommend this spot.
Great food and atmosphere. Arrived to find out Tuesday’s were oyster night which was an awesome addition to the evening. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will absolutely return!
