The Carbon Bar Ratings and Reviews
I had read the reviews so i went in with high expectations and i was not disappointed. The KFC, peppers and duck tacos appetizers were incredibly tasty. The BBQ brisket, chicken and ribs were again just so good. Lauren was our server and I would be hard pressed to find a better server anywhere. the four of us were raving about the dinner as we walked to massey hall - convenient . adjust the expectations when you look at the outside but inside its large and wide open with a cool vibe and the food was absolutely spectacular.
Service and food was great! Hostess never asked to take our coats and weren’t very friendly.
The food is unusual but in a very good way in terms of type and selection. The KFC is a must.
Excellent food and service. Good menu selectio, lots of tasty apps.
Great food and service was great. Only problem.. I told them it was a birthday dinner in advance and whoever called me said she would leave that in the notes but nothing was done? We were just given our bill and left. Normally I would’ve made a fuss about it especially when I made the reservation a week ago and confirmed the birthday two days prior but I didn’t want to spoil my SO’s birthday with a situation like that.
Other than that, the food was incredible and service was excellent. Just wish they actually followed through when I decided to bring my SO to this restaurant for her birthday.
We had a wonderful dinner experience. And Sam rolled out the whiskey bar which was amazing! We will be back!
We enjoyed the mixed meat platter! I asked the server if accompanying pickles were made in house. She said “no”, confidently. I ferment pickles so it’s a curiosity of mine. She then returned and said “I lied, the pickles are made in house”. Then I asked if they were fermented and raw/unpasteurized. She finally confessed to not knowing that answer. I eventually got an answer - they’re raw and properly fermented. Delicious & probiotic rich! And the chef who made them is probably proud enough to want the server to know how they were prepared. K, here’s the thing - if you don’t know your product, then don’t lie to me. I’d prefer an honest “I actually don’t know, but let me get an answer for you.” Then, when I had time I’d brush up on the menu details. I’m a server and I take pride in genuine product knowledge and sharing that with the guest. Anyhow, at the end, a sullen and stiff person started processing our credit card. Had a dinner jacket on. Maybe a manager?? He didn’t even look at us. I asked, “Hello, are you an employee here?”, just to be acknowledged! Hilarious. The vibe at the front desk is also tense and lacking a generous warmth, which I don’t think is too much to expect upon an initial greeting. Great food, friendly enough waiter, good cocktail menu and fairly good wine offerings. Just needs a little work on the people front.
I can't wait to go back to this place! Although it was super busy, our food came out quickly, they stayed on top of our drinks and checked on us just often enough. THE FOOD IS GREAT!!! If you like southern comfort food this is one of the best spots in Toronto. I love going out to local spots all over the city, and this is a gem out of the hustle of the core downtown. The only small issues was a server (not our waitress) brought some drinks over to our table and spilled quite a bit on one of our jackets. He didn't say anything and nor did my friend. However, when my friend went to put on his coat, he realized it was actually quite a bit of drink on his coat but luckily his coat is dark. Accidents happen though. We didn't say anything about it.
One of the best restaurants I’ve been to in Toronto! It looks small on the outside but it’s big on the inside. The food is amazing ! The platter is a must! They have a great selections for drinks.
After all the good reviews I finally got to try the Carbon Bar and it did not disappoint. Very plain on the outside in a drab area, but inside it was fabulous. Definitely bigger on the inside. The brisket was some of the best I have had in Toronto. Friends had the BBQ combo and really enjoyed the friend chicken. I definitely recommend this spot.
Great food and atmosphere. Arrived to find out Tuesday’s were oyster night which was an awesome addition to the evening. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Will absolutely return!
We always have a great time, delicious food and seamless service. Looking forward to next time.
Food was excellent. Staff very friendly. Took a while to make a drink order.
Our waiter mixed up our order a bit but quickly corrected the issues. The food was great all around; the brisket was melt in your mouth and the death by chocolate was decadent. Will go back to try brunch. Oh, and try the Manhattan. It was the drink of choice for the night.
As always, Carbon Bar never disappoints. The KFC is out of this world, the pit master platter is the best bang for the buck, and don’t skip the specialty drink menu. Save some money and don’t forgo the full experience!
Very tasty food. Well prepared, authentic and good ingredients. Service was friendly and helpful. Casual and comfortable environment with nice furnishings. Very nice ambiance. Would definitely go back.
Great meal! Super Service!
Been here several times and it unfortunately gets better every time I'm there. One if my favourite places to eat.
So good! Had the Korean fried cauliflower based on the server recommendation, so good. And I hate cauliflower. Literally the food was out of this world. Try the margarita, it's unbelievable.
We loved our night!
Got a large booth for 6-8, that was great!
Best service experience of all time. From when we entered to when we left. Great job!
Had the BBQ ribs with Mac and cheese ...Mac and cheese great but ribs just ok. Also tried the brisket which was delicious...should have ordered that instead. Ordered one of the specialty cocktails which was delicious
The restaurant is lost between a BBQ smokehouse and a nicer restaurant in all aspects: Decor, atmosphere, service, food, and prices. The large dining room and car are nicely decorated, yet service staff wear a t-shirt uniform; there is loud, outdated music playing, and patrons range from casual groups (some loud and obnoxious) to parties celebrating special occasions; the menu is a split between unique appies and entrees, and flat-out southern style BBQ including large share platters - both sides of he menu similarly priced at around $30-40 per meal.
My experience was good on the food side but lacking in every other respect. Our seafood and fish entrees were delicious and reasonably sized, and cocktails were okay. The music was distracting, and the party next to us was very loud and rowdy, clearly talking about us and pointing, and sometimes yelling and waving handkerchiefs over their heads. After dessert, we were brought the bill without even asking as if we were done, and the bill was missing items we ordered from the bar. Overall, the experience was lacking and definitely did not warrant the bill at the end of the night.
My wife and I went to this restaurant for her birthday and we had a really good time. Food was great and ambiance was good. Special mention for Gareth, great host.
Fresh seafood, Great bar. Korean fried cauliflower is revolutionary.
Been to carbon a few times. The meat or seafood share platters are great. Brisket is the best
I️ really like the ambiance here and the idea of more upscale bbq. The food has not been as good the past couple of times. Cocktails, service and the room itself are all great. We had the bbq platter this past time and it was just ok. The brisket was weak compared to most better bbq places in Toronto (it used to be better), the ribs were a bit dry and the chicken had a mushy layer between a great crisp batter and perfectly cooked, moist chicken - almost like the chicken was cooked first then battered and fried where the inside of the batter was still raw. The sauces were a bit lacking in flavour compared to some other places. Would love for the food to get upgraded back up to where it was the first few times we visited over the years.
Excellent find. Service is attentive without being oppressive. Best brisket outside of Texas. We will be back!
We arrived 2 hours early to our reservation and were seated promptly. The waiter quickly recognized we were not in a hurry. The Carbon Bar specializes in smoked meat and Bourbon. My wife, a vegetarian, found plenty on the menu to choose from. We had the Peppers and the KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower) to start. Both were yummie. I enjoyed the delicious Beef Brisket and my wife enjoyed the Salmon. To finish I savoured one of their delicious Bourbons especially selected for me by the Bourbon master. The service was impeccable. Next time we are in Toronto, we will be back.
Second time coming and food has changed..to preparation of the food to the taste of the food made the feeling of coming back horrible
Always good food but some delays between guest meals arriving 10 minutes before rest of party received food.
Food place to accomodate needs of a keto diner. The brisket benny was very filling with teo perfectly poached eggs and lashings of hollaindaise, did not need the mile high biscuit, would have been way too much!
So great! Transforming electric circus into a hip resto-bar was an awesome idea.
Service was awesome too :)
Great experience. We opted for the tasting menu which had ample food and selection.
Had an excellent meal. Recommend the KFC Korean fried cauliflower and the pit masters platter.
We enjoyed the food. We ordered the chicken and waffles and the huevos al carbón. Presentation was great and everything tasted very nice. To our surprise we only paid $50 for two people and it included coffee, main course and a little chocolate desert.
Great place. Visited during a weeks holiday in Toronto with my wife & teenage kids.... food & service were v good, would definitely recommend it.
Great Service, good wine and creative cocktails and the food was great. This was our last night in Toronto and we were not disappointed
Always fantastic. Nothing else to say. Service and quality are top notch.
The meat platter was definitely worth it. The seafood was a bit underwhelming, but I suppose it's more for the exquisite tastes. We went for my parent's anniversary, and we were hoping for a bit more than just a candle on top of our desert, but nonetheless, good overall.
