The Chase Fish & Oyster
Food was tasty, but quite expensive. The summerlicious main I had was mussels. It was just a place of about 10 mussels with some bread. They didn’t even provide a bowl for shells. We ordered something on top of the prix fixe and there was lots of confusion about what course we were on. Our water ran empty and servers were hard to flag.
We had a wonderful dinner! The food was amazing - particularly the cod - and they had some very nice wines on the menu. I would definitely go back!
Have dined upstairs at The Chase but wanted to try the casual Fish & Oyster experience downstairs. We really loved the dining room and patio. Forgot it was Summerlicious when we arrived. My sweetheart wasn’t into the specials - he had his eye on other things - but I went for the fixe prix as it had everything I wanted. Had the buffalo cauliflower and tuna nachos for starters. Both were excellent. For the main I had the lobster roll and my sweetheart had the fish and chips with Brussels Sprout side. The lobster roll was the best I’ve had this summer, so far. Really delicious! The Brussels Sprouts were excellent, too. The fish and chips were good but the batter was just a tad on the soggy side. The chips on both our plates were great. A dessert cake with my order and I loved what I chose - the lemon cake. It was not too sweet and a nice finish to the meal. Out server generously brought ALL the summerlicious desserts at the end of the meal... a super well intended gesture that was very thoughtful. The only thing was we just wanted the lemon cake as the other desserts weren’t totally our favs, but we each had a ‘no thank you’ spoonful to try them. They were fine, but again, not something we’d order just based on our personal preferences. Our server was attentive and engaging, but when we finished our meal - our desserts were cleared, our drinks finished, and we BOTH made trips to the restroom - he failed to check in. We waited 40 minutes to get his attention to get our bill (while it doesn’t happen all the time, my partner and I feel the wait for the bill when you’re ready to go can be a total buzzkill to the whole experience). We would return again despite a bit of a flop at the end. Food, service, and environment made for a nice night out.
Worst summerlicious experience ever,
Food: came out cold and tasted like it had sat on the kitchen counter for 30 minutes
Service: our waiter was extremely rude and not at all apologetic about the fact we waited 30 minutes between each course. The dessert which presumably was pre-made took 30 minutes to come out and we had to ask multiple times.
I thought the food was well-prepared and tasty, and the service was above-average. The noise level was a bit too high for my liking and we had to wait longer than expected for our dessert. Overall I would recommend this venue to friends and family.
Overall I had a great experience. The only flaw was the long wait time for my espresso. It came a few minutes after I had finished my dessert, though it was ordered after the second course.
Nothing special. Decent service but unmemorable menu. Fish was okay. Salad was oversized but kale was overly bitter. Service okay but nothing great.
Excellent food, professionally and intelligently served. No regrets. Will go as often as I can.
I have been to Chase numerous times and have always found the service and food to be very good. This time however and perhaps because of Summerlicious, this was not the case. We arrived for our 12:30 reservation at 12:25 and told that our table was not ready. There were no available seats at the bar to wait, so the hostess inquired if we would like to sit outside. As it was a stifling hot day, we declined but waited outside anyway, crowding the people the were seated under the only umbrella. We ordered but made it clear that we would be eating inside when our table was ready. Another server then brought the food outside! I said we were still waiting for our table. In addition, I received a test message that we were on the 'waiting list', seriously.
Our table was ready 45 minutes after our reservation. Basically we wasted our lunch hour sitting.
Food was good as per usual. The manager removed my glass of wine from the bill.
Very disappointing day at Chase.
We were celebrating a birthday and were very happy with the service and the summerlicious lunch.
I ordered the Cod from the summerlicious menu and it was pretty overcooked. When the server came and asked how the food was, I told him that my fish was overcooked, and he didn't do anything about it, not even an apology- which was a little disappointing. I expected better service. The clams and oysters from the raw bar, on the other hand, were really nice and fresh.
Food took a very long time, and then felt rush to finish our meal. Not even the drinks came quickly. They definitely need to improve on the service particularly in the rooftop patio. Very disappointing.
Oysters were remarkable, halibut outstanding and service extraordinary...
Always love the Chase Fish & Oyster.
Great food and great service.
Great service. High quality food!
Great food and a nice atmosphere.
Our server was very professional and friendly. The food was worth the money for sure. Even though it was ala carte the sides were very reasonable.
I found the halibut dry but loved the way it was presented. My friend enjoyed the mussels. Great atmosphere and service.
I was very disappointed with the food. I ordered the daily lobster Cobb special. I was told it included a generous portion of lobster. NOT. It was drenched in salad dressing which did not taste much like the advertised “ranch” and the lettuce was soggy. My friend left most of his fish and chips uneaten. Extremely noisy.
Amazing experience, as usual !
This was me second time here and it is incredible food! We had the tuna tacos and the oysters to start. In addition we thoroughly enjoyed the lobster mac n cheese and the "goat cheese" (cashews) with rhubarb compote. Really really excellent flavors!!
Clam chowder was delicious! And the dessert, skillet cookie was to die-for!
First time there and we walked into a bingo night and it honestly turned our night around. We had so much fun. I’ve been to over 55 restaurants in Toronto and this is in my top 5. Definitely going back and bringing more guests this time!
Once a month, the restaurant hosts a Music Bingo night. What fun! DJ was fabulous! Food was fabulous. I would recommend the Tuna Nachos and from the raw bar, the Yonge Platter. Great way to spend a Friday night with a group of friends. It gets lively, that is for sure!
Our server Bruno (bar staff) was incredible & we ended up at musical bingo night which was THE BEST EVER
The family style option worked perfectly for our group and we were blown away
Jag our server was great. Grilled octopus outstanding!!
The table was in front and very close to the stairs leading to the underground level and next to the bar. It felt like we weren't part of the restaurant and the table was an afterthought. I extended my arm out while talking and smacked an employee and a server bumped into the side of my body while I was sitting.
Awkward! The dessert options were disappointing, and my lime tart too sweet, the crust too thick. The oysters and shrimp were delicious, as was the chowder.
Great restaurant. The food and service are very good. We got our table on time, did not have to wait for food for a long time. Perfectly cooked starters and entrees. Good size of entrees, no need to order sides.
I recommend to order seafood dishes. This is the main specialty of this place.
We had a family dinner for my Mom's 69th birthday. It was extra special because we knew it would be the last time that we were all together as a family. I received great service from the moment I called to make the reservation. I requested a dish not on their menu & they made it special for my Mom. Everything we ordered was fabulous - sumptuous thermidor with lemon risotto, perfectly flavored paella, and and a showstopper whole crispy snapper. We also had the kale & brussel sprouts Caesar & maple roasted broccoli - must have choices for sides. We shared 3 desserts and couldn’t come to a decision on which was best - but 50% of us thought it was the sticky toffee pudding with a hint of ginger, burnt caramel & pecans. Don’t think twice - eat at CFO. And a heartfelt thank you to Tarek, the Chef, Harry and the rest of the staff for their outstanding service and for making this occasion more special than I could’ve hoped.
We tried a couple new menu items which were really delicious. The food was fantastic and the service was great as usual.
A real seafood treat!
Food was very good, notwithstanding the poorly sucked oysters, and service could be improved. It was ridiculously expensive for what we got but I'd do it again.
To put simply the food was gross.. I ordered the beef and it was extremely oily. I never send things back but this was not edible. So I switched it for the halibut and that was not very good either, also oily. So I basically didn’t eat dinner. I also indicated and confirmed 3 times with them prior to getting there that it was a birthday dinner (we ordered dessert that should have had a birthday message on it). But they still forgot. They only realized later after I had paid the bill, so they brought out fried dough balls with a happy birthday cookie.
Excellent experience and food. The staff is very professional.
My first time at your restaurant, I have heard so much about it.
I am so happy I came food, service, amibience was so amazing I was so impressed how much food we received for what we paid.
Celebrated National Oyster Day. Delicious 🥂
I’ve been at least 5 times, and this is the third time the wine on the menu is not available- with an attempt to Upsell...
The place is lovely, great that they have valet although I wish they would have mentioned how much the valet service is!
Some of the food was a little too salty which is something I've read in other reviews, so many tell the chef.
The service was OUTSTANDING, all of our waiters were incredible.
The grilled seafood place was unbelievable, and the oyster platters were very fresh. Would love to come again.
To start, the atmosphere was nice and greeting was pleasant by hostess. Appetizer - clam chowder was excellent! Main course - grilled seafood plate was great. 1 lb Lobster meal was good but was ruined by the lobster being under cooked. They recooked the lobster but still the smell of the undercooked lobster left a bad impression. The drinks were good and service was good by waitress. Overall, we had a mixed experience. The food was good and staff was friendly, but the mistake by the chef with under cooking the lobster outweighed the rest of the experience. No compensation was made by management for this mistake... not sure if we will come back. This was our second visit here out of 3 visits to Toronto. Will probably be our last.
The service was first rate. The food (halibut) was excellent. A very enjoyable experience.
