The DERRICK Gin Mill & Bar
Delicious food and yummy cocktails (and mocktails)
Service is friendly but a bit slow, will definitely be back!
Celebrated our five year anniversary there. The setting is comfortable and quiet. Food was really tasty, cocktails by Franco were amazing and the service outstanding. Will definitely return!
I would not recommend based on a few things… This was the second time I’ve been for lunch and the second time I was disappointed with the meal and the service. The steak for my steak frites was a joke. It definitely was NOT a 5 ounce steak. It was over-done and for $22, completely over-priced. Basically you’re paying $22 for a ridiculously small piece of steak, a huge pile of oily arugula and some luke-warm fries. Sadly, the fries were actually the best part of the meal. The server brought me a brewed coffee when I asked for an Americano, but yet tried to convince me it was an Americano. Espresso based drinks usually have at least some residual crema and don't taste like brewed Maxwell House coffee.
The one thing I will say about this place is that they do make some very nice cocktails. The drinks are very small but at least they are well made and the bartenders seem to take pride in the cocktails they serve.
Good atmosphere, good food, and an excellent gin selection. The service was very slow, for whatever reason, it took way too long for a lunch break from work!
As always a fantastic lunch. Great quality ingredients and flavor at a reasonable price. I really appreciate being able to get in and out within 1 hour for a business lunch. Will be back again for sure !!
This was probably the best experience I have had at a restaurant. As someone who works in the industry, it was amazing to have a knowledgable server. We were there for the first night they rolled out a new menu and the food was phenomenal. Will absolutely go back again next time I am in town. Do not miss out on this place. Wish we had something like this in Vancouver!
Good food and good service but it’s a bit dark inside so better for a cold day than a warm summer day.
One of the best Duck Club sandwiches in the city, combined with creative gin mixologists!
Enjoyed you establishment very much. Staff were great and the food was awesome. Highly recommend the Smoked Beef Tartar and Duck bites as an appie. Had the Montreal smoked meat sandwich and it was outstanding (With Chips) not fries!!! The infused beverage was excellent as well.
Have already recommended to other and intend to take my wife and some friends down very soon!
Great experience and easy conversation
The steak is melt in your mouth. Broccoli salad yummy. My only complaint were seats were uncomfortable and because of the ceilings, so noisy for us. Otherwise very good
Great service and food. Bartender was extremely knowledgeable and suggested some new drinks which were very good.
Drink was good, food had no happy hour deals was disappointing. Food was hit & miss: duck skewers small okay flavour, fried pickles very sour not spicy, fried cheese curds great, cheese & meat platter pretty good.
Will not return for happy hour, maybe try lunch.
Service was really great! Our server was incredibly personable and helpful. The bar got absolutely slammed later in the evening and service slowed down significantly but our server kept in touch and let us know about the delay. The women’s washroom was closed on the Derrick side so our server had to escort any women over through the kitchen to the lounge on the other side which probably added to her being really busy.
Drinks and food were really creative and great.
*Did not get served food so no comment on the quality.
Poor service with very little attention. When I had enough and wanted to pay my bill to leave, it was difficult (lack of service). I went to the bar to pay, the machines were down, so I offered cash instead to just get out.
I had the server look at me twice in 40 minutes, once to serve water and once when I had to yell and wave my arms to get her attention to order a cocktail.
The owner has contacted me since, stating that it was busier than planned for and they were under staffed.
Awesome Montreal smoked meat sandwich and great salads. A couple more craft draught ales would make it even better.
We wanted to try a place specializing in gin and they definitely do. Gin selection was great and they helped greatly with pairing tonics etc. Their food menu is limited and quite obscure from my point of view.
Great spot! Surprisingly not busy! Food and cocktails are very tasty. Entrance is understated.
Only my second visit to this establishment, and the first for lunch. The food and service were both great. Will add this restaurant to the list of lunch places frequented. Thank you!
Creative and super tasty. Loved it. We will be back
Great food, great service
Great atmosphere and service, and the food is decent. I thought the prices were a little high, but overall I’d go back again.
The food was not hot enough when it came out. The server also looked a little confused when I asked her for a gin recommendation. The restaurant itself was really nice.
Enjoyed a quiet lunch. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was good
That burger 😍
The gin does not disappoint at The Derrick!
We had a delicious meal and some amazing cocktails - perfect way to spend a Friday night with friends!
We did find the music was too loud and the restaurant was cold and the cold air was blowing right on our table. We sat in the back and would have appreciated a chandelier over our table as the ambient light was quite dark.
Such a cool little place. So many cocktails! Definitely worth a visit.
Always a great place to grab a drink and a bite to eat.
Service was very friendly, but a little slow. Food is terrific. We went on NYE and it wasn't super busy.
Restaurant is auto 20% for 6 people. We ordered a business lunch that required an hour and 1/2 because our waitress dealt with other tables and we had our desserts to go. The management was unsympathetic and the waitstaff was not properly trained. If you’re a hipster and willing to just drink probably fine but not recommended for a place to go for lunch.
Was extremely slow
I went here with a friend for after work drinks and they had amazing cocktails!
The highlight at The Derrick would be the cocktails.
Didn't really care for the food but if you are a gin lover check it out.
Prices have gone up, portion sizes have gone down. Food is good. Ambience is nice. Hadn't been in a while and probably wont as the prices are a no-go for what is offered.
Amazing time. Great service. Highly recommend!
The peanut butter balls desert was not the best. It tastes a bit like vinegar.
Have had a couple “work” lunches and a breakfast, service has always been excellent. Food is good, and so are the drinks. A touch expensive, the happy hour pricing makes up for it.
We had a table of 7 for a get together. The service was great. The drink menu was almost overwhelming but our server (sorry cannot remember her name) made some suggestions and we were all happy with what we got.
The food was incredible. Between us we had the pork belly, sirloin, halibut, lamb, broccoli salad, oysters. Everything was amazing.
It was very quiet but that was a Tuesday night and we were basically the only table in the restaurant. I can't speak for what's it's like during busy nights.
For the price it's not a place we can go every day, but I would definitely recommend for a special occasion.
First time at this restaurant and decided to go because we had out of town guests and thought this sounded like an Interesting restaurant and my niece is a fan of gin.
I was disappointed in the atmosphere and service. We were the only table in the place on a Saturday night but the server was more interested in sitting at the bar chatting with the bartender then serving us. The food and drinks were delicious but my portion (fish) was tiny compared to everyone else’s dishes.
We would have probably stayed and had dessert and more cocktails but the waitress completely ignored us to the point that my husband had to go up to the bar and get our bill. Again we were the only table in the place!
