This was my 3rd visit in 30 years and quality of my meal and service has been consistently excellent. Menu choice, preparation and presentation are very good, tho perhaps a bit pricey. Enjoyed all nonetheless.
Even though they call it the “classic” lobster dinner, the lobster is cut up and deshelled for you. When I asked if I could have a whole lobster the server told me they don’t have any live lobsters which called all of it into question. My wife’s char was over cooked and the server was pretentious as I have ever seen. Overall while the place is historic and charming the service was slow and mediocre and the food was very overpriced.
They made us feel special on our 30th wedding anniversary by giving us a card and bringing us two flutes of champagne.
We enjoyed the dining experience and would have marked all areas “very good” had it not been for the cold lemon rice that all the otherwise great food was placed on. The lemon rice is obviously prepared ahead and spooned on to the plates. Unfortunately it was a bit dry and cold.
Nous avons aimé les bouchées au début du repas et particulièrement les petits pains maison. Nous avons cependant trouvé que le choix des desserts était restreint.
Food was delicious. Service left much to be desired. Dirty wine glasses in a fine dining establishment isn’t usually a good sign.
There was a huge delay in food service. Staff let us know right away and constantly communicated updates. They provided a drink for two of us, at no charge, due to the inconvenience. My steak was not quite medium, server was to have another cooked, I responded it was ok and refused. He took it off the check, without hesitation. We were there for my birthday, I got a personalized card signed by all the staff members, then was treated to dessert at no charge. Very professional, great food, they go the extra mile to see the customer satisfied.
The chowder was outstanding as was the Char. The only downgrade was service was a little lacking for the atmosphere and price point. I’m used to waiters or other staff minding your wine glass when you buy a bottle and keeping it full and not pouring yourself. It’s a small thing yes. The food was excellent though and the atmosphere excellent. Just takes a lot for me to call a place 5 stair.
Poor service. Very long wait for our food. Prices were excessive for the meals and quality offered.
Great service! Food was good.
Amazing service and great evening. It was our anniversary and they were so sweet to us.
We celebrated our 45 anniversary. Every one was very friendly and the food was excellent . This was our first time in a restaurant in Halifax . English is our 3 language. I can’t right a lot Sorry for any grammatical error . We will recommend to our friends in Toronto to visit the restaurant , when they will visit Halifax Thanks
All around, it’s a terrific restaurant with an inventive kitchen. My only complaint is that they need to upgrade the wines offered at the ‘lower’ prices by the bottle. The $50 French rose was essentially a cheepo flabby bar wine, and that was not appropriate for such a good restaurant.
Authentic, delicious & truly a 5-Star!!! Make this place part of your destination when visiting Halifax!
Fresh seafood was delicious and prepared expertly. Portions were large. Veggies were crisp.
I had a bar seat.... The bar men were quite busy and still very friendly!
All round excellent experience. We went for my wife’s birthday. Brought our six year old. Entire staff was exceptional. Food was excellent. Highly recommend. Good value for the money.
This is one of our favorite restaurants. We try and visit every time we are in Halifax. It never dissapoints. Thanks again for a great meal.
Friend and family get together. Server was awesome, timing of courses was good, but I did find my meal( chicken) and a few other people found it a bit salty. Overall we enjoyed our experience there.
Excellent food and service and it was wonderful to be able to have a conversation. The acoustics were the best I have experienced in any restaurant.
I enjoyed the 5 fisherman, new renovations great. Somewhat noisy and food longer arriving than I expect. I arrived at 5pm and food came at 6-15 range.
Overall experience good and I plan to go back soon.
Anniversary dinner. Everything thing was very good, but had to request water and then we had to wait longer than normal for refills. Food was excellent and staff was friendly.
Amazing food and great atmosphere! Will definitely be coming back and soon!
We came to experience one of Halifax's top rated seafood restaurants and we were not disappointed. Great wine selection and we split the seafood chowder, Fisherman Five plate and Coquille St. Jacques. What a delicious combination. Beautiful atmosphere, great location and the service was fantatic! Most improtantly, the seafood was out of this world.
Everything was cooked just right and delicious. Highly recommend.
This place is outstanding.
Our server, Aaron was fantastic. Good knowledge of the menu and wines. There when you needed him, invisible when you didn’t...a skill more servers should learn!
We ordered oysters, 5 fish with lobster risotto, Coquille st. Jacques, seafood linguine.
All were amazing. I’m glad we took his advice on upgrading to lobster risotto.
The restaurant decor and atmosphere is beautiful. Very high end, but casual and not stuffy or clubby.
I can’t speak to the prices relative to Halifax, but you can’t get food of this caliber in Toronto for anywhere near these prices.
Highly recommended place.
I cannot say enough regarding our time and meal at Five Fishermen. The service, ambiance an food went above and beyond expectations. From the complimentary champagne to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday to the sumptuous desert it was bar none unbelievably amazing. Thank you so much.
One question. What coffee do you serve? The best.
Again thank you.
Outstanding service, quality of food was exceptional! Wine was superb! Our server Christian was very accommodating with helping with menu and what to choose. One of us got the wrong dish, but this was fixed immediately with a lobster dinner for all of us to share on the house. Going above and beyond is an understatement. Next time in Halifax, we will definitely return. Great job guys!
Excellent food. Spot in recommendations from Paul. Great service.
Outstanding meal (I had salmon) and the rest of our party had some kind of fish dish which they all enjoyed. Dessert was delicious. We all had the pecan tart. Out waiter was Phil and he was great. Will definitely be back. Thanks Shirley
Enjoyed the food immensely. The service was good however we advise Tyler to take his time in others do not rush me! At first fine then we ordered and our entree drinks were on table... red wine ok the white warms up. The recommendations were spot on. Time in between course was good. Oh the champagne at the beginning was a nice touch to celebrate the bday as was the card signed by staff! Very much appreciated.
Finished comfortably bill brought told to take your time and turned around with credit card machine to pay! Question did you think I was going to run out on you? Of course not a few minutes would have been warranted nonetheless overall quite happy and tipped appropriately.
Nice ambiance and character in the building... thank you.
On Day 1 of our vacation we were fortunate to walk past the Five Fishermen, checked the menu and made reservations for later that evening. Our server was excellent: good suggestions for local wines, attentive without rushing us, and he paced the arrival of each course perfectly. The oysters were fresh and delicious. Our mains (seafood ravioli and baked halibut) perfectly prepared. Ditto the chocolate mousse cake. We also loved the decor and feel of the spacious upstairs dining room. We plan to return before our trip ends.
Great food and service. Salmon dinner was one of the best and came with choice of sauce. Definitely make a reservation or you may get seated in the bar area with limited menu.
I had the halibut, and it was fabulous. My husband and I both thought our vegetables were cooked to perfection. The employees working at the desk at our hotel recommended this restaurant, and we are so glad that they did!
our food was delicious! we were very pleased to have dined at the Fiver Fisherman.
Alain provided some of the best service we have ever experienced! Can’t wait to come back!
Great service from the start. Couldn’t decide which wine to have. Waitress was so helpful; we couldn’t decide which wine to have so she brought 4-5 glasses of wine for us to try and help our decision making process....it worked
The food was excellent but would have liked to have seen more fish choice on the menu
We got to Five Fisherman early due to rain and my reservation was moved up by an hour. Very accommodating. I really appreciated that and the meal was outstanding. Couldn't ask for more!
Delicious meal. Great service. Only down side was being too full for dessert.
