Love the restaurent. One of my go to for special occasions. Service and food are exquisite. The type of food that even though your full you can’t stop eating it because it’s that good. It’s definitely on the higher end of prices so if you’ve never been to it, definitely save up and go for a special occasion.
Noisy, pricey, and horrible service
Was a great option for the seafood lover and the vegan. Hard to find a place that caters to both
Excellent service! We were 5 of us and we seated in a few minutes of arriving ( we had made reservations prior). Food was delicious and the wine selection was fantastic. I would highly recommend this place as part of your Halifax gastronomy experience.
One of the best dinners we had on our Halifax vacation. Seafood is delicious and ambience is inviting. Great for a fancier dinner!
Great dinner, food was excellent and service from Carley and the rest of the second floor team was exceptional.
The meal portions were perfect. Not too large but very satisfying.
The wine recommendation by the waiter was on point.
Ambiance was wonderful.
Great value. We would eat at the Keg for more I believe. Thanks again.
service was quick n efficient. food was tasty and well flavored. we had 5 fish n pan fried haddock. the room is well appointed, comfortable n reasonably quiet. the veges were MUSH. if you like them this way, then good for you. if not avoid ordering veges. all else is good n worth while.
A thoroughly enjoyable and delicious night. Thank you.
Great quality of food and the ambience is quite warm! All of us were pleased with the overall quality and price point of our dishes. Unfortunately we had very snooty server who was quite poor at their job.
I’m trusting that not all servers are as weak as this one and that other customers will give similar feedback if they haven’t already done so.
Amazing experience! Delicious food. Beautiful decor. Our server was exceptional.
The Five Fishermen is not your quintessential touristy fish joint though it is in a very touristy area of Halifax near the arena. Our expectations were set with that assumption, so we were absolutely thrilled by the food, presentation and atmosphere. Yes they even do non-seafood items well such as the salads and vegan entree, which one of us thoroughly enjoyed. Nothing “token” about their menu.
If we lived in Halifax, we’d definitely have it on our go-to list.
Our party of five went for a birthday dinner. The food was good, and the pricing was reflective of the overall quality, presentation and service. None of our party were blown away by the experience but it was a nice dinner out we would go back again. The waitstaff were professional and efficient, the restaurant was nicely decorated.
We were visiting from Toronto and heard this was a great place for local seafood. The ambience is lovely and we were greeted and shown to our table right away.
From that point on the service went downhill. I should mention that everyone is extremely nice and polite, they are just very slow and non attentive. We waited about 15 minutes to be shown a cocktail menu. And another 20 minutes to receive any drink. In fact our appetizers arrived before our cocktails, we found it so bizarre we actually had to ask another server to find out where our drinks were and they had just been sitting ready at the bar. We had to ask a manager after that when we wanted another beverage. I’m not sure if this was just an off night or they need to hire more staff. Again the staff are lovely just need to pay more attention to their tables.
All in all the food was great especially the seafood chowder, we both enjoyed our meals and would come back maybe on a slower night.
It was unbelievable how packed the place was on a weeknight at 10:00! Loved the vibe and energy!!
Fish was over cooked. Server was new and not well trained. Overall disappointed if this is one of Halifax’s best?
Nous avions connu l’endroit il y a environ 10 ans et avions adoré.
Nous nous étions promis d’y retourner lors d’un prochain passage à Halifax.
Ce que nous avons fait avec grand plaisir et immense satisfaction.
The food was excellent, but the service was slow and very impersonal. Our table was next to the server station and was loud. It would seem that given the fact that we had a reservation we would have been given a better table location. Despite this, we would return. The oysters were great and the best mussels ever! The main course seafood dishes were excellent and large portions.
I enjoyed our evening there. The décor was great, noise level fine, service fine but I felt the meal slightly overpriced.
Service was a little slow tonight. Food was hit and miss. I really liked the pork tostadas starter. I had the 5 fish risotto. The shrimps were good but the scallops were overcooked.
Wonderful food ask for Patrick as server
Our last night in Halifax my husband and I were searching for a nice place to dine having opted for more casual fare on previous evenings, and wanting seafood that wasn’t battered and served with fries. We happened upon the Five Fishermen and since it was an easy walk from our downtown hotel, we decided to try it. We weren’t disappointed! In fact everything about this restaurant was classy from its modern, yet comfortable decor, the layout of the dining space allowed for intimate dining yet can accommodate a crowd easily and yet you felt like you had your own space. Our waiter Alain was welcoming, and engaging with an experts knowledge of the wine and food menu. Our food was delivered promptly, was nicely presented and one of the most delicious meals I have had. I had the wood grilled halibut and my husband had the grilled sea bass which he loved. Sadly we weren’t able to sample the desert menu as we had a plane to catch. Even though the bill was high we felt it was worth the money and went on our way feeling we had chosen well!
Food was delicious, great place to go for local seafood!! Our waiter (Patrick) was amazing: great suggestions, friendly, and fun. When he found out we were there for a birthday dinner, he made it special and made our desserts on the house. One of the best outings I've had in awhile.
We first discovered this restaurant 30 years ago on a business trip. We loved the mussel bar and were extremely disappointed when we were told this was eliminated around 4 years ago. The mussel bar brought you over the top. Now you are just another restaurant! The food was very good but five fishermen really is nothing better than a tourist trap. We would return if the mussel bar was reinstated. Otherwise.....NO!!!
Great food and great service. The ambience was great! We went for our anniversary and it didn’t disappoint. We also had our 6 mo son and the staff were all so sweet and accommodating to him!
We had a very enjoyable dinner at the Five Fishermen. Food and service was excellent. We will be back!
Very Nice place and enbiance ... and good is very Good
The food was great. The waiter Patrick had great suggestions and wine pairings.
Great food and ambience. Service was extremely slow.
Seafood was very good. Risotto was salty.
Even though were on time for our reservation had to wait quite some time to be seated - then waited again to get served.
Server was personable but service was very slow
It was my first time back to Halifax since birth and we dropped our son off at university. The food was good but my expectations were higher than what we received. I suggested serving the lobster Mac and cheese with a larger pasta noodle (spiral) and offering sangria which is very easy to make.
Chowder came out Luke warm. Then chilled quickly because air conditioner was blowing directly on table. The halibut was terrific but again had to eat it quickly so it was hot but then vegetables were ice cold. Check out where they sit you and avoid the a/c vents at all cost.
Great food, helpful and friendly staff. A bit pricey but worth it.
Absolutely outstanding meal in a very nice ambiance.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner here at The Five Fisherman- the seafood was outstanding as were the salads! Service was equally excellent - our waitress was great - very knowledgeable, prompt, very helpful and nice to talk to (gave us tips on local trails to see and history of the building!). Would certainly recommend this restaurant!
Great restaurant, we always have at least one meal here while in Halifax. The quality of the food and excellent service is well worth the price.
Attractive restaurant, waiter was friendly, food was well presented but average in taste. The wine was definitely overpriced. Overall assessment...very pricey for the dining experience.
My fish was over cooked. My guests had lobster and both said it was mediocre. All in all I thought that the food was overpriced. Our server was nice enough but left us unattended for lengthy periods. I do not recommend. A lobster roll from Dave’s by the waterfront was superior.
In town and meeting up with friends
