4 of us ordered different dishes. Each of us was disappointed. Dishes were unremarkable except for the fact that the quantities were shockingly small and the prices undeservedly high. The room felt cold and the interior decoration was uninteresting. Saturday evening and many of the tables were empty. Now we know why. Don’t waste your time or money here. Too many good restaurants in Dallas to waste an evening here.

Great place for an afternoon tea experience. Just make sure you ask what they are about to serve in case of allergies because they dont give out a menu to look at.

Having grown up in Dallas and gone the French Room on special occasions, I was very disappointed. The entire experience for my wife and my 22nd anniversary was mediocre at best. I was amazingly disappointed.

It took 20 minutes for our server to come over to our table. Our food was ok. This was the first time they didn’t offer a prefix menu. The cheese plate was the best part of our meal. My husbands hamachi was super fishy, his scallops were quarter size, my short rib looked like a fatty filet and was hard to cut with my steak knife. We were not offered dessert. We have been dining at the French Room for 10 years and this was the first time we’ve had a disappointing experience.

I took my ( then girlfriend) to the French Room on Valentine's day to propose to her. First of all, B-E-A-UTIFUL hotel and all around establishment. Very accommodating service and helpful in being creative ( as I am not) with the proposal. Food was very elegant and different. She said yes of course and definitely a moment to remember.

Evening was meant to be my wife and mine 14 yr anniversary. When we arrived it took over 15 min for the waitress to offer water or ask about drinks. The restaurant was almost empty, and instead of making the evening a special one, it felt more like a pass through diner. My table was sat next to other empty and dirty tables. Food was warm, with the main dish leaving a lot to be desired. That table ordered 3 rib dishes, all came back very disproportionate in size with one of them just being fat, not meat. For a $550+dinner tab, I could have had better service, better food and a more enjoyable night almost anywhere else.

I intend to write the Adolphus GM and the Manager of the French Room as well. I have been a long time supporter of the French Room. It was Dallas fine dining and service at it's best. The hotel has gone through an extensive remodel, and frankly to us that travel the world, would have at one time said it was Dallas's best. The ambiance in the French Room has been dummed down to beyond casual. Our server was very nice and lovely but in jeans. She was well trained and immediately recognized how concerned I was about where I was seated, the lack of immediate service. She attempted all night to ensure we had a lovely evening. That said, the food was awful, I had beef short ribs, that were very tough and so little to accompany you ended up eating MEAT. My dining partner had the salmon. It had a very strong smokey flavor, that of a gravlox and was covered in some unidentifiable white coating. One desert was tolerable it was a lemon cheese cake, the other was uneatable a chocolate concoction that was only tolerated by a small spoonful of strawberry sorbet. The wine: We asked for assistance, no semolina. Our very nice wait staff said she was well versed but became nervous when we began to discuss what we liked and disliked. We requested a medium bodied French wine, staying in a reasonable price under $150. The first bottle was bad, but was caught at the wine tasting and uncorking station, the second bottle, nearly as bad but it was served. We did not have to heart to send it back, as our very nice female server was very uneasy at this point. We closed out and moved to the bar. Equally disorganized with disinterested wait staff. We had a quick after dinner cocktail, and ended up moving to a couch near the fire place in the main seating area. The highlight of the evening were the very nice service people picking up glasses and cleaning. They were very gracious and polite. I intend to write the management. Very sad experience.

Our server, a 35 year employee at the old French Room, rescued us from what otherwise would have been a very disappointing evening. She went out of her way to ensure that our dining experience was closer to what we had come to expect from what used to be a fine dining restaurant. Today, not so much. Piped in loud music, casual service (think Applebee's) and lack of attention to details associated with better restaurants (try Fearings or the Mansion) have converted this once extraordinary restaurant into something quite common. It's come as you are now, so you can experience the French Room in your jeans and t-shirt, or shorts and flip flops while paying for what management would pass off as fine dining. The food was good, but nothing distinguishing and given the commonplace ambiance and service, over-priced. We are very thankful to our server, who remembered the old French Room and tried to give us that experience. She was wonderful.

Made our reservation online, was initially running late due to scheduling conflicts phoned in to change our reservation time the staff was courteous in accommodating a change to arrival time, on our way there we hit rush hour traffic phoned in to advise would be late was told to “be safe in arriving” which I thought was very nice. Upon our arrival we were greeted by their friendly staff & were promptly seated. We ordered up a few appetizers along with a few cocktails, had our main course & then left. Everything on the menu was superb, the ambiance of the history of the hotel coupled with the French Room & their bar definitely hooked me to want to come back. Can’t wait to go back!

The "Amuse Bouche" is a French term for "amuse the mouth". It is an opener of the chef's choosing served at the finest restaurants. Italians serve "sorbetto" which became sorbet in French, a pallet cleanser between courses to reset the tastebuds. A sommelier is a French term for a wine steward, a highly trained professional, knowledgable about wines, and the pairing of foods to enhance the enjoyment of both. The French Room at the Adolphus no longer serves either an amuse-bouche, a sorbet course, or has a sommelier. The restaurant should simply be called "The "" Room", summoning memories of the terrible movie by Tommy Wiseau (also French) since the restaurant no longer has any "French" to it. What was once a grand restaurant worthy of Michelin stars, is now a sterile, cold and overpriced "nice hotel restaurant". The "" Room is now a shadow of what it once was. Having dined annually or more at the "" Room for the past two decades, our dinner this past Tuesday evening, our first since the "renovation" left us sad, as if a close friend had passed. The only remaining server who was as wonderful as we remember was Connie. God bless Connie, as she still has all the class and decorum we remember of our old haunt. The beautiful artwork on the ceiling appears to have been painted over. The room is sterile white. Techno "oontz-oontz" music plays in the background, jarring your teeth while you try to enjoy the 3g of tasteless Perigord truffles for which you just paid $25, on top of the mashed potatoes served in a small bowl for $16. Apart from Connie, the rest of the staff seemed bewildered. The requirement for gentlemen to wear at minimum a sport coat also appears to have gone the way of the sorbet and the sommelier. Many times, change is good. Extreme change can be extremely good. Or in this case, the change is far, far to the worse. Our memories of the French Room are now just that. What remains now is The "" Room; a Room we will not come back to.

The whole staff went above and beyond to make the night memorable filled with champagne. The food and ambiance was like we were in France.

Asked to split meal between my kids and wait staff pressured us into ordering separate meals (which ended up being too much and a lot was thrown away) She seemed offended that I only ordered an appetizer because I wasn’t hungry. The food was WAY over priced and wasn’t that tasty. Was a special occasion - daughter’s birthday and they didn’t do anything special for her. Left feeling really let down.

I absolutely LOVE this place! I took a friend here for Afternoon Tea for her birthday and we had a delightful time. If you're looking to dress in your "Sunday Best" and don a hat, this is certainly the place to do it and they appreciate it! Our experience was very leisurely so we had lots of time to enjoy. The food wasn't particularly on par with the atmosphere and price, but the tea selection was enjoyable. One of the hostesses (whose name is unfortunately escaping me at the moment) was absolutely outstanding! Her detail to each and every guest was mighty impressive and warmly welcomed. I will definitely be back!

I dined at the French Room about two years ago and it was fantastic. What you would expect from a fine dining establishment in Dallas. First Class! Unfortunately it must not have been sustainable. Tonight the wait staff came over dressed in their CrackerBarrel uniforms! The bread was stale! The wine was hot! The food was cold! The service was terrible except for our new friend Connie, who was delightful. Sad to see such a beautiful restaurant headed down the tubes. Don’t waste your time!

We had high tea here-the atmosphere and decor were amazing. Service was very good, but it did decline a bit as they got busier. The entire hotel is Instagram-worthy! Food was very good, but I was not sure about a "holiday tea" on January 19. I thought they should have switched back to the regular tea by then. I would be fine with a holiday tea perhaps until January 1st, but definitely not past that, so the peppermint macaroon and egg nog tart and fruitcake were nice, but a bit out of place. I really felt like a princess eating here, and everyone is wonderful. I'd definitely recommend it, but I'd suggest calling first if you are thinking about going soon to make sure they have the regular tea and not a holiday tea. Also be aware-the bathrooms are a bit of a walk there, and they can get pretty busy!!!! I loved the experience! Go with your girlfriends-don't force your BF or husband here if they don't want to :) .

Beautiful dining rm BUT whatever charming, quaint history this restaurant had no longer exists! It’s run by staff who don’t know what they’re doing. While the chef has one or two creative dishes, it’s an overall miss. For instance, the butter taste like margarine. The smoked oysters, a new dish, was basically raw oysters set on a pile of smoking wood. What a dreadful dinner served by less-than-welcoming staff.
