The Gates on Roblin
Nestled on the banks of the majestic Assiniboine River at the western edge of Winnipeg’s city limits, our beautifully restored country estate re-opened in August 2006 as the premier dining and banquet facility in Manitoba. Under new ownership and with a fresh new look, we provide world-class services, spectacular local cuisine, and an unparalleled ambience to meet your every need.
Today, The Gates on Roblin spans the immaculate seven-acre property and include a state-of-the-art 16,000 square foot banquet hall, sophisticated lounge area, one of the best veranda's in Winnipeg, upscale private dining rooms, and of course our wonderful bakery.
The Gates on Roblin has you covered for all your special occasions! Our pastry artists are pleased to create unique cakes for any of your entertaining needs, and our Executive Chef will prepare special menus for your next event in your home or office.
Being that our reservation was on Monday November 11th, the restaurant was very quite. Service was great as there were only three other tables occupied in our area. Would recommend and visit again!
We’ve always tried to go some place special for our anniversary -and Winnipeg does indeed have some wonderful venues! By far the finest dining experience we’ve enjoyed was this year at The Gates.
Perfect food. Perfect service. Simply lovely decor. Dining quality at its best.
The only reason I would not give this restaurant 5 stars for everything is because the floor and cubicles in the washroom were dirty.
Everything was great...except the creme brule..my fav dessert but not the best. But the rest was amazing
The Gates offers a very quaint environment in a beautiful, sprawling ranch-house overlooking fields and pastures with horses. The food is good, especially the chocolate treats and the made-to-order items like omelettes and crepes. Some of the buffet-dishes are good but not gourmet-level, like the turkey pot-pie and salmon-cakes, but the prime rib always impresses.
Excellent service and wonderful Chateaubriand as always.
First of all the Onion Soup, which we looked forward to, was simply awful.
The serving person was courteous and informative, but considering how few in number your customers were, the service was very slow. To make matters worse, our four out of town guests sat and watched a couple of people who arrived after us receive service before we did.
All in all, a disappointment for an evening meal that stood us close to $600.00 for our four non Winnipegers whom I had encouraged to visit the Gates.
Restaurant was not crowded so we felt that we had a beautiful dining space to ourselves.
6 of the 7 meals were excellent; the 7th was a New York steak which was a definite disappointment.
Thanks we had a very nice time. The food was great and the service very good as well.
Love the place and the taste of food is worth it for the price. I reserved a dinner for my birthday and at the end of the dinner the lady who serves us brought a dessert treat.
Next time we will try their brunch buffet.
Always great but pricey. Can only afford once or twice a year 😐
We were entertaining guests from abroad and they very much enjoyed the experience. Given the power problems everywhere we were able to have a very good Thanksgiving meal. Portions were good and food was terrific.
Brunch with family was very enjoyable. Food was delicious and hot and replenished frequently. My only comment is the beef roast should have been cooked to more med than med-rare. Service was exceptional!! Highly recommend it
This is our favorite place when we want to celebrate and indulge ourselves. It never disappoints. The menu changes but is always excellent and the staff are incredibly professional and always friendly.
Always excellent!!! Great food , location and easy parking
I absolutely love going to the gates! The service is always spectacular, the food is incredible and the outdoor grounds are always well manicured and beautiful. I strongly feel that the inside decor could use a few updates though. It doesn’t affect my love for being there but I could see how many people may view it as outdated and choose to frequent other newer and hipper restaurants and venues.
A beautiful setting and wonderful service ! We were celebrating a friends birthday which she regrettably was not able to attend but our server gave us a piece of cheesecake to share and celebrate anyway ! Great fun
We ate in the lounge. The service was excellent and the food very good. The low rating on the overall value was because of the portion size. We ordered a hot beef sand and the fish and chips. The hot beef was a very generous portion but the Gus and chips had just 1 quite small pickerel fillet. It was very tasty but not enough for a meal.
Best brunch in Winnipeg . Easy to get there and easy parking
First time there, food was amazing, came fast, attentive staff. Could not have been happier with my experience.
Ordered chicken veg soup had two chunks of chicken not even 1/4 inch and a sprinkle of corn bits and 2 slices of mushrooms cost $7 I should of just opened a can of Campbell’s soup I would have enjoyed it more.
I was very disappointed and would have been embarrassed to serve it to customers.
On another note my daughter had a great salad
My wife and I took her mother here for her birthday and it was all our first time here. The first thing you’ll notice is that the property and surrounding land is beautiful.
We came for an early dinner on a Wednesday so it was very quiet in the restaurant. I started with scallops which were cooked perfectly and had a very tasty aioli.
For our entree’s I had the beef tenderloin, my wife had pork tenderloin and my mother in law had a chicken linguini. My beef was cooked perfectly medium rare and was awesomely seasoned. The accompanying vegetables were great and I had an order of asparagus with bernaise. The bernaise was thicker than I expected but still had good flavour. My wife’s pork was filled with apples and other things and wrapped in prosciutto. She said it was the best one of the best pork dishes she had. Lastly my mother in law really enjoyed her pasta
We would all come back to The Gates for a special occasion in the future.
The food wasnt very good. The caeser salsd was extremely fishy and the steak was very tough. My pasta dish had chicken but i had a huge piece with something gross on it. Not the bedt dinner for the price
Enjoyed it very much but I found the service overall for fine dining was not as expected. And by that as no one ever came by to top off our wine or ask if we wanted another bottle.
We enjoyed the experience overall and would come back but I think the level of attention was not what we've experienced at other fine dining locations.
Very good with one exception, our steak was ordered medium rare and delivered medium well. Although not cooked as requested it was still very good. Our server Casey was very good.
Why do you ask if there is a special occasion for the reservation?
We went for a special lunch when a friend was visiting. We both enjoyed very much. Food and service was excellent and you can’t beat the ambiance of The Gates. She is from Ottawa and was amazed at the value for cost. I had been before and will certainly go again.
The special of the night was a delicious meal. There were a lot of people around us, but our table still felt quiet and romantic.
It was a nice place for our celebration dinner. Food was better than we expected.
Food is marginal
Decor is soooo dated and in need of touch ups everywhere
Server was most attentive and pleasant. It was a special occasion and she provided a lovely dessert gratis for the birthday girl. Much appreciated!
The Sunday brunch at The Gates is absolutely exceptional in terms of quality and variety. And it did not disappoint! We highly recommend the prime rib and flambee crepes!
While our lunch experience was most enjoyable we were rather surprised at the condition of the upper floor. We went up to use the wash room and found two of the stalls out of commission. While we were up there we had a little look around and found paint and plaster chipping of the walls and the leather seats of several of the chairs in the smaller dining rooms ripped and in very poor condition. If you're booking a room for an occasion you might want to check it out first.
Outstaning ambience for celebrating with elegance in a dignified setting Worth the price
Excellent menu. Food was delicious. Server was knowledgeable. Lunch was served hot and timely. We were not rushed and thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our surroundings. We definitely return.
Great atmosphere, foods are ok.
Our party enjoyed everything.
The only thing I would recommend.......and this is minor..........change the type of music !
Goo d volume but .....boring !
Couldn’t ask for a better place to take that special someone.
The services is beyond outstanding. Not sure what you feel like having for a drink? The bar staff is full of fantastic recommendations.
Want something note quote on the menu?
The chef will do everything he can to make it just how you like it.
Thank you so much for the great review! Bring that special someone back soon and please enjoy the rest of your summer! Ray
We had lovely time at The Gates. The food selection was good and prepare to our satisfaction. I will recommend The Gates to family and friends
Thanks Anna! We appreciate the visit and certainly like the recommendation! Take care and we hope to see you again soon! Ray
Delicious food as well as a large variety. Prime rib was outstanding and it was nice to have au jus as well as peppercorn gravy to go with it. Crepes were also great as there was a variety of fillings and sauces.
Thanks so much, Wendy! We spend a lot of time and energy setting up our brunch every week so it is really nice to hear that you enjoyed it! We try to change it up slightly every week so that you can come regularly and not get bored of the same fare. Thank you for the support!! Ray
With someone special
