We visited for our anniversary and it was such a delight. The staff had created such a lovely atmosphere and had even written as a card to acknowledge our anniversary which was a lovely addition. We went early evening to make use of the 5-10-5 menu. The food was lovely and the staff even offered us fresh bread and butter to start along with a goats cheese appetiser. The mains were also delicious which we accompanied by prosecco.
Sadly I chose a dish with cheese and as I have an allergy to cheese I was very sick after. Had I known I would not have chosen it. No doubt I should have checked first.
Very good food. Service could have been a little quicker, bearing in mind there were only a few tables occupied, but this did not detract from a good evening.
Meal was delicious ordered Appetisers the server just came along didn’t ask if we had finished with them and cleared them away. And we still had plenty left. Then while having the meal the server started to clear out plates and one of us was still eating. That made her rush and didn’t finish her meal. Can’t fault the food was lovely.
Excellent and caring service. Our second visit. Would recommend.
A very pleasant experience, such good value for money. Will visit again ,hopefully soon.
Went here for date night after having it recommended by a friend. Fantastic quality food, service and atmosphere. Will be coming again.
A lovely place that seems so lesuirely it’s almost asleep which means in reality exactly the opposite behind the scene. Background music just right( we were there lunchtime) staff were friendly , informative and very professional.
Food was exceptional.
We had a lovely 3 course meal. Will 100% return again
The food from both the a la carte and the 5/ 10/ 5 menu was scrumptious, we will definately eat here again and bring the rest of the family
All our food was over seasoned, to much salt! And potatoes served with the belly pork was cold.
Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. Locally sourced, beautiful, delicious amazing food. We had the Pollock and the Pork Belly. Can’t recommend highly enough.
We went to the Greedy Goose for my 21st birthday meal and we were not disappointed! We had the 7 course tasting menu with matching wine flight, the pollock and ginuea foul dishes were outstanding! It was all of our first tasting menus and we loved being able to experience it all together and it was especially helpful having the plates and wines explained to us before each one. Lots of varieties of foods and brilliant combinations. I would definitely recommend for any special occasion!
Great value lunch, excellent quality and great cooking. The staff are very friendly and attentive and the general ambience is very relaxing and enjoyable.
This was not our first meal to the Greedy Goose and we had another excellent meal which is not always the case in all restaurants. Thr staff were very attentive and gave us good service. . Look forward to seeing you again.
As a London foodie I was pleased to hear that somewhere of calibre had opened in Plymouth as it is a City with very few options for a special night out (and half a yard at Cap'n Jaspers sin't always what you need).
I went to the Greedy Goose full of anticipation. This started to wane after waiting half an hour to be seated. Then after ordering, 30 minutes more for the starter to arrive. At least most of the starter. One dish didn't turn up at all and was taken off the bill.
The starter that did arrive was good. But tiny. And it was served in a bowl of raw barley for some odd reason which stuck to the starter and nearly broke my wife's tooth.
The steak sharer main course was expensive and average. You would get better for less at the far superior Hawksmoor.
The shining light of the evening was the Chocolate moose. Delicious. But very small.
We won't be going back.
I booked a table to celebrate our first night out having had a baby last year. We we’re slightly early and showed immediately to our table. We thought, great! It then took about half an hour to get our drinks order taken, by which time we decided we best get our food order in at the same time. On finishing our meal it took 1 hour to attract the attention of a waitress to ask for our bill. At this point we were told that we needed to go to bar to pay anyway. Not a problem but a shame that we had to wait an hour to be informed of this. Unfortunately having sat at our table at 2000 we did not leave until 2330 by which point we had to hot foot it home to relieve the babysitter rather than going for a nice celebratory drink as planned. The food was okay. On a positive note the portion size was reasonable. However, it just wasn’t that tastey. Both the belly pork and pollock were dry and over cooked which was a real shame. We weren’t the only ones with this opinion a table near us had refused to pay for their starters and another couple had commented that the food had been disappointing on leaving.
Excellent food and service. A little over priced but bearable. The ambience was a little flat, maybe some background music needed.
The taster menu was magnificent. This is the 3rd time we have visited. It did not disappoint
We had a great night at the Greedy Goose. Service, food and atmosphere were superb and we really enjoyed our evening. Would most definitely come back when visiting Plymouth and we have already recommended the place to our family and friends who live in the city. Thanks so much to the guys who left us an anniversary card on arrival at our table and then finished the evening with a lovely chocolate message from the chef. Lovely touch and meant so much to myself and wife.
Very good value for set lunchtime menu. Lovely building. Good food. Nice service
The food was good but the service was not. Fairly rude & unwelcoming atmosphere. Felt very much like the waitress was not interested in us being there despite us being polite & friendly. We've worked in hospitality ourselves for many years previously so do understand that sometimes it can be challenging to keep smiling etc throughout service when tired or whatever but honestly she didn't smile at us once & made us feel pretty uncomfortable. The general atmosphere was uncomfortable & we won't be returning unfortunately.
Wedding anniversary, fancied something different for the occasion, everything was great the food in particular the staff were pleasant, the only point was the table was stuck in a corner against the wall but essentially a good evening many thanks
Second time that I have booked this restaurant for a pre-theatre menu. It was so good the first time that I visited & this second visit did not disappoint. The food really is exceptional.
If you go when the restaurant is serving either their lunch or pre-theatre menus then the restaurant also provides good value. It is not cheap but very reasonable considering the quality of both the ingredients and the culinary skill that goes into preparing them.
One of the finest meals I have eaten, it is a celebration of local ingredients. Presented by friendly and welcoming staff. Cooked to perfection. Just a wonderful evening of food and wine.
I felt very much at ease in the restaurant and the staff were very attentive, but I wish I had chosen a different main, while the Gaelic coffee was indifferent.
Very impressed, late notice birthday surprise cannot fault the experience. Menu was sublime, staff were friendly, highly knowledgeable & very welcoming. Will be a firm favourite from now on.
We had been to this restaurant when it was under previous owners but now feel the current staff have got it just right. The atmosphere is relaxed but professional and the food is truly wonderful and tasty. The building itself is stunning. I have been several times now for a Mother's Day lunch and a birthday treat but also a quick lunch and been very impressed on all occasions.
The Greedy Goose is one of my fav restaurants, excellent, food ,great wine choice, professional friendly staff. The fact they can do a gluten free options if they can on the menu which is a bonus ,this was great for this occasion as my friend is gluten free and was able to eat everything I had except the fishbons. My friend and I had a lovely afternoon and wasn’t rushed to leave as it was a late lunch ,it gave us a chance to catch up loads so thank you Greedy Goose . Will be visiting again soon x
Having been to the Greedy Goose for its Early Diners' meals many times before I have to say that I was disappointed this time round... No amuse bouche (which was always a lovely start), and increased prices means that the experience is not as special as it was.
The service, likewise, was not as 'fine dining' as I have experienced before.
Sadly, I am less likely to revisit the Greedy Goose, although it was my favourite Plymouth restaurant over the past 3 years.
Amazing food- this is the best restaurant in Plymouth without a doubt
Excellent food and great service. We were slightly late but they were kind enough to hold our table.
The food was good but the service really let down the whole experience. The food didn’t come out together for the whole party and the waitress did not seem particularly happy to be there. We were seated by the kitchen entrance and the table behind was quite close which resulted in my chair being repeatedly knocked into as staff walked past. It wasn’t what we had been lead to expect for a fine dining experience and is not what it was when it was Tanners.
We went for a lunch time service and the 5-10-5 menu. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Particularly enjoyed the guinea fowl risotto. The risotto was amazing. Will definitely return next time we are in Plymouth.
Visited here for the first time this year, usually visit at least 3 times a year. Had the 5£_10£_£5 menu which was excellent. The portions are slightly bigger than the previous lunch deal food and very tasty especially the poached egg and advocado starter.
We had an excellent meal for my Son’s birthday! The food was exquisite, the staff are very friendly and professional, the only let down was one young waitress who tried very hard but needs a little more training she passed plates over our heads and the food slid to one side?
We had gone for the seven course taster menu, the other waitress told us exactly what each course was but the young girl just put the plate down and didn’t say a word? But I understand everybody has to learn!
This was our first here and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We had the tasting menu and the flavours, presentation and quantities were all well judged. The atmosphere was quiet, which we like, and the service was excellent.
Never worth the money, no atmosphere, staff unsociable except waitress, £70 for a steak we shared asked for medium rare came out rare with a handful of chips, we had to pay extra for any sides, drinks were reasonable at £5 for a bottle beer which is average, coffee came out with a burnt taste which means they don’t regularly clean there coffee machine pipes, the guy serving drinks was ignorant, the only good thing was it’s a beautiful building....
Despite receiving confirmation by email of the booking, my friends & I arrived at the restaurant to find it was shut.
Leaving me very embarrassed & angry .
