Up there with one of the best dining experiences I've had, if not the best. We were very fortunate with the weather, meaning it was glorious sunshine so we could sit outside and relax in the sun on the terrace, gazing at the stunning sea view. The staff were very knowledgeable about both the dishes and wine and couldn't do enough to make sure you had a top experience. Every plate (we went for the taster menu) was delicious, varied and beautifully presented. highly recommended. I'll be back.
Description of my crab starter was very misleading and the dish itself very frugal with not a lot of flavour
Again my brill main course did not have a lot of flavour all rather bland.
Certainly not worth the cost of the meal.
Probably one of the best locations in Cornwall
Lovely service and very tasty food, prices is very steep..
But looking forward to our next visit..
The total experience from the service to the food was outstanding. Myself and my partner both had the tasting menu and felt every course was put together perfectly. We are hoping to return for our next special occasion.
Booked this from home as we were travelling to stay at St Mawes and needed a nice meal after a long, long journey. We were absolutely blown away, the staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive and the food was simply amazing, every dish was a work of art. Fantastic restaurant.
We live on the continent where the myth is perpetuated that you cannot eat well in the British Isles. Well, a visit to The Idle Rocks should convince the most critical eaters and get them to enthusiastically report about the dining experience there. The chef knows what (s)he is doing. The food is cooked to perfection, presented very attractively and served professionally by friendly and motivated staff who manage to make you feel really welcome.
On top of that the location is stunning. The prices are not for the faint-hearted, but they represent the value of what you get for your money.
The Idle Rocks is a restaurant pearl tucked away in an unexpected corner. The star team provided us with an unforgettable experience for which we thank them very, very much.
Top level food and service in a contemporary yet very comfortable restaurant
For a special occasion this would be ideal particularly for people who love to know what's in a dish and all the ingredients etc. Lovely waterside location.
Lovely setting, fantastic greeting and pre dinner drink. Lovely food! Excellent service. A wonderful evening for our anniversary.
Had the set lunch menu. One of the nicest meals I’ve had - the flavours were amazing. Superb service and of course the view of St Mawes and the sea. Just a shame that we were the only couple in the restaurant! Definitely recommend it for a special occasion.
We ate at the Idle Rocks for a late valentines night with my wife and I. Generally we enjoyed the food and the waiting staff tried hard. But our evening was spoiled by rudeness from one of the waitresses who having asked for bread without any response interrupted us asking a second waiter five minutes later and subsequently made a sarcastic comment when clearing plates. We eat out a lot and I have never seen a member of front of house staff with such a bad attitude.
The most beautifully presented, tantalising, fine cuisine, set in a relaxing waterfront location .... with spectacular views. We are never disappointed. Thank you to the team.
Outstanding food, service, views & location. What more can I say?
The food was of an exceptional quality, the service and their knowledge was so in depth and made to feel at ease throughout the whole night. Guy and his kitchen are smashing it here, the front of house staff are just as incredible, Will be back soon guys thanks!x
My favourite restaurant. Can’t fault it.
Guy & his team are superb. Never fail to be impressed.
Just the perfect evening from the minute we arrived, attentive staff, great setting, fabulous food, we couldn't have wanted for more.
Excellent dinner. Started with a couple of cocktails served in the lounge which had a lovely ambience to it. We chose the Goats Cheese Ravioli and the Pork Belly to start and we both had the curried cod for mains - all fabulous ! Service and the dining area was excellent . Highly recommended.
Attentive service but star of the show was the delicious food. Top quality gourmet food at its best. Can't wait to return.
Wonderful meal at the Idle Rocks, staff friendly and efficient, food was amazing and the decor was just lovely. Fantastic views of the harbour... superb evening, can't wait to come back!!
Our waiter did not know how to make an appropriate spritz. On bringing an aperol & soda he consulted a colleague who brought an aperol spritz but it was far too water, mainly due to the abundance of ice. We thought the wine was over-priced.
Excellent as usual. Food service and wine exceptional with an amazing view
The idle rocks restaurant area has been revamped since our last visit and is now a stunning piece of interior design with food and service to match. Relaxed and welcoming and the Dyson hand washer/driers in the gents are the icing on the cake!
Excellent Sunday lunch. Quality of the food and wine was extremely good even down to the olives and fresh warm bread served prior to the meal Great views and friendly staff. Would definitely return
excellent food and service. Ideal place to look at the sea and boats when the weather Is good or not so good
Another very enjoyable evening, great food, ambience and service.
Wonderful restaurant with stunning views, attentive staff and fabulous food. Exceeded our expectations and was the highlight of our trip. You can't get better than sitting at a table outside on the veranda watching the sun setting over St Mawes harbour. We would thoroughly recommend it for a special night out.
We were looking for somewhere special for an end of holiday treat with friends ( but not children!)! And boy did we find it !! The service was utterly outstanding but at the same time not at all intrusive. They knew the dishes they were offering inside and out and were extremely friendly and courteous in their delivery without being overly friendly. The food was simply divine and full of the mist delicious flavours .... perhaps a bit on the small side if I had any criticism at all. Crab tortellini was amazing ... would have loved it as a main course! And I loved the fact they had a cheese menu too! The wine was fabulous- we treated ourselves to a bottle of camel valley brut Pinot noir .... out of this world and then enjoyed 2 bottles of picpol with our meal ... one of the best I've ever tasted . Just perfect 👌! Thank you idle rocks ... you certainly do rock ❤️
Fantastic food of a standard and level of refinery I haven't experienced before in cornwall. The front of house have hospitality down to a fine art!
Despite a very wet day it was a joy to have such a wonderful lunch at The Idle Rocks.
The staff were excellent and very efficient without being stuffy.
The food and wine were divine.
Excellent food the service was impeccable
Highly recommend to anyone who ventures to St.Mawes, beautiful place
Fantastic as usual
Truly exceptional cooking by Guy, Head Chef. It was seafood Saturday and we ate a whole fresh John Dory, which was cooked to perfection. The starters of crab and scallops were sophisticated yet unfussy, allowing the ingredients to shine through. The setting is perfect, with commanding views of St Mawes harbour.
Beautiful setting, great food, fantastic service - couldn't recommend highly enough.
The place was spectacular. Delicious food and excellent service. We had a coeliac in our party and the staff were very attentive to that fact. Lovely experience. X
Perfection. The food, decor and service were sublime. My husband and I took our 4 very hard to please teenagers for Sunday lunch and the verdict was unanimous, it was glorious!
Delicious food, beautifully presented. The chef has a wonderful palate and creates wonderful flavours. The cote de boeuf was outstanding.
We had a great experience there and went back the next evening. Again great experience. Very nice service, very friendly staff. Wine was also good and till reasonably priced.
We booked for dinner at the end of our holiday in St Mawes. Welcoming party of at least five staff was a bit overwhelming! We were shown to a table on the terrace and given drinks menus. These cocktails arrived 25 minutes later- 5 minutes before we were shown to our table in the restaurant. This was annoying as we had arrived early, as the hotel website suggested, and people arriving after us were served drinks before we were. my husband did point this out to one of the staff but as we were served by three different people on the terrace, it was hard to know who was at fault. However, we could not fault the quality of food or service in the restaurant- all beautifully served and tasting delicious. Wine by the glass was first-class too. The Idle Rocks is not cheap but well worth it for a special occasion. Just a shame about the disappointing start to the evening.
Visited many times. Always a pleasure to sit on a lazy summer afternoon overlooking the harbour and enjoy excellent food and a good bottle of wine. Highly recommended.
A most fabulous place. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Prices are high, but you know that before you go, so no excuses. We will definitely return again. Many thanks
