Just around the corner from Bath's Royal Crescent, The Marlborough Tavern combines the atmosphere of a local pub with the food quality you’d expect of a top restaurant. Two AA rosettes, and inclusions in The Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide bear testimony to the quality of both food and service. It’s no wonder it's won the Bath Gastropub of the Year title more than any competitors.

Food is essentially, though not slavishly, English in character and takes advantage of locally sourced produce wherever possible. Its food reputation is matched by their service - always friendly and attentive without being intrusive, and there's an extensive wine list and selection of local ales to choose from. The Marlborough's pub garden is arguably Bath’s finest; a walled courtyard space, that’s perfect for summertime lunching and drinking.

    We enjoyed eating at The Marlborough Tavern in Bath. However, we did have to wait for our different orders to come through so, as there were 4 of us, it did mean some meals were getting cold. The service was variable - one waitress was very accommodating but not so sure about the other. We found the prices pretty elevated to be honest considering the food was good but not outstanding really. The noise level was definitely challenging. We think it's the general poor level of acoustics in the room. Overall, it was a nice evening but that was more down to seeing old friends than the dining experience.

    Very nice meal. The one starter was brought at the same time as the three mains as requested. Lively atmosphere, very good choices on the menu and well cooked food. All four of us were very satisfied with both food and wine and beer selections.

    We had the pan fried hake and I nearly cried when it was over. Absolutely delicious. The service was just attentive enough from our smiley, delightful server. The ambience chilled, classy. I'd highly recommend

    Lovely pub - felt it was a local pub rather than touristy - lots of dogs! (Which we love). Service was brilliant - attentive but not overbearing - would definitely recommend

    Starter and pudding very nice, a bit disappointed with main course. Chicken leg wasn’t a nice roasted colour and black pudding was fairly tasteless. Service was disappointing, no one checked in on us during courses only when clearing plates. And we had to ask for additional drinks twice. At 10.20 we were told we couldn’t have a coffee as they’d shut the machine down. This pub used to be amazing, feel it’s not as good as it used to be.

    Good food, friendly staff. Nice overall the only slight problem was the seating. We where placed on a circular table more or less next to each other. But again very good food and nice staff, would defo go again.

    Excellent veggie Sunday lunch. Nut roast and veggie Wellington both really good, vegetables and spuds perfect, gravy among the best I’ve ever had. Carnivores seemed to be tucking in too!

    Lovely setting and food. My only complain was that the food options for the Sunday roast were limited as they only served pork, no chicken or beef. Also they could have more veg with there roast dinners.

    I had the pumpkin soup to start. It was tasteless and watery. The bread/toast was dry. Couldn't tell which it was! But the hake and mash was excellent, but only served with two leaves of kale, each the size of a large postage stamp. Disappointed.

    It’s quite difficult to get a good veggie roast but the Marlborough Tavern have it nailed. Their mixed nut roast is so delicious, super tasty and very generous portions. Staff are attentive and very friendly. I really can’t fault it.

    2nd time I have visited a bit of a let down. Me and my daughter went for a Sunday roast. Menu said the Beef option was gluten free and dairy free what it didn’t say was the option was anything you can not eat you will not get, so you pay the same as everyone else but get get less. My daughter was allowed a massive Yorkshire pudding and filled up her plate as mine was very empty. We had half a carrot each that was a little undercooked. When you say you cater for allergies you should provide an alternative or reduced the price. For £63 for 2 dinners and 2 drinks and I was hungry afterwards not worth it. Pudding you can only have sorbet. Very disappointing.
