   Great food in a beautifully designed space. Was a bit empty so not a ton of atmosphere, but it was a Monday at lunch. Very attentive service. Not too much, not too little. Just right.

   The food was excellent. Right amount of heat. Favorite was the Carnita. Small for 6$ each. We were in the patio which was cool for a 25°C day, not their fault, but glad we were as it is very loud inside. It would be hard to carry on a conversation.

   This is our second time at the Merchant Kitchen. We love the atmosphere and find the staff really friendly and efficient. The menu has a really nice selection and everything we’ve tried was delicious. I don’t hesitate to recommend this restaurant and we will be back when we are in Winnipeg again.

   We purposely ordered the fried chicken early so we would get it with our food and our waitress assured us it wouldn’t take more than 30 min. After almost an hour of not getting the chicken we asked where it was and she realized she forgot to put the order in. She then said do you still want it and we decided instead of order the full and a half order we asked for half order. She brought it and gave us a discount. We all thought the chicken should have been covered and instead of a half order we should have been gifted a full and the half order… I usually love coming to Merchant but last night was very disappointing…

   Interesting fusion dishes in a casual contemporary atmosphere. Service was quick and friendly. We shared the broccoli tempura, superfood salad and chicken tacos. All 3 dishes were delicious! I would also recommend the desserts. I had the lemongrass tart and partner had the chocolate tart. Both were equally flavourful and delicious! Cocktails are also great. I can’t quite recall the name of the cocktail I had, maybe the “Chamchura” and loved it!

    I want to preface this by saying that I am by no means a food critic, and I am sure that this place has stellar food quality most nights. It was my girlfriends birthday, wanted to try the place for ages. It was practically empty, (to be fair, it was a Monday night), and we ordered the KFC and the Korean short ribs, as well as the corn dip. By far the corn dip was the best. The other two were pretty eh (one was extremely hot and kind of flavorless and the other was too cold and almost tasted dusty? Regardless, we are and it didn’t taste bad! But the staff and service was fantastic!! I’m hoping it was an off night. Not sure if I’ll go back to try any time soon however. All my friends and family love it. Might have just been an off night!!!

    I've never enjoyed my vegetables like I enjoyed the tempura batter broccolini! Dipped into the asian sauce, two three bites and you're left wondering how something so simple can taste so amazing. And the chicken wings impressed my lady friend so much she said she's never had better. Overall the staff and the food was outstanding! Definitely will be going back often.

    I discovered The Merchant Kitchen by googling "restaurants near Dave Barber Cinematique" and this was one of the options. The servers were very efficient and friendly. They gave great advice on on our food and drink choices and my friend and I were both very happy with our selections. We mentioned we needed to be out in a short amount of time and they advised which dishes took longer to prepare. We weren't rushed at all but were able to leave in time for the movie. I would definitely recommend The Merchant Kitchen. I don't know if our sense of direction isn't great however, because we did have trouble finding out exactly where it was. But that could have been on us as we were rushing.

    We got the calamari and 2 types of tacos. The calamari was on the smaller side but tasty. The tacos were very small and the chicken/pork was dried out. For $36 those tacos left us feeling ripped off and still hungry. Can’t recommend and won’t be going back.

    We have been twice, first time was amazing, second time was a let down. We ordered 3 dishes plus dessert. one of the three dishes was very good (the pork) the calamari and the tacos were flavorless and nothing special. The dessert we got though was amazing. We also went with another couple who said their pork sliders were also very bland. Was disappointed with the experience.

    We went before a jets game, so it was probably louder than usual But it was SO loud I couldn’t hear my friend from across the table They also sat us in a very strange spot between two large loud tables everytime Someone had to get out their buts we’re skimming our table. They changed their menu and their drink menu since I was there last Wings were good Probably won’t go back Limited menu and just poor ambiance

    Overall we enjoyed our meal at The Merchant Kitchen. The atmosphere was cool and laid back. Lots of seating at the bar and also as the back around the kitchen area. The calamari was good but lacked some flavour. The chips and dip was plentiful and the guacamole had a nice kick to it. The Cuban sliders were incredible… so flavourful. The pollo tacos had a great combination of slaw and pico but the chicken needed some more moisture. The service was good and we would definitely go back.

    Food was great and our server was good as well. However, I had a bit of an awkward experience when a group of friends showed up as they were looking for a place to have some food and drinks while my party of four was nearing the end of our reservation. It was a party of 4 granted and didn’t have a reservation ; yet the restaurant was not packed by any means and had plenty of room to accommodate as we looked around and saw a lot of open tables. They ended up going to Browns Social house instead when told they were not able to be accommodated. Seems like a missed opportunity as I feel like the Merchant Kitchen could have accommodated them even at our table as we had plenty of room. Also, I was buying a round of drinks for that same party prior to them leaving (because again merchant kitchen couldn’t accommodate them) and was asked if they were at a table or not…which was slightly annoying because I mentioned I will be paying for the round at the bar. I see no reason why this would be relevant as they were leaving and I wanted to pay for their drinks. Again what was again annoying was as we wrapped our reservation (closer to 8pm) we still saw plenty of open tables in the restaurant and were baffled why they could not accommodate the party of 4 that wanted to join us. I am all for making a reservation but really unless your systems showed you’re fully booked , the place itself showed the opposite and looked quite dead. Not sure what the went on there but I feel like it would have made a more memorable night as we don’t go out very often and will be re-considering where we take our business the next time we decide to dine out downtown.

    Had the sliders and Dan Dan noodles. The noodles were very spicy! I could hardly eat them and I am a spice person. The sliders were amazing! Our waitress was very nice and tended to us and made good conversation.
