The Merchant Kitchen
The Merchant Kitchen is an idea conceptualized by travel and adventure. Honouring the traditional ingredients, flavours, and techniques of Asia and Latin America, while incorporating the freshest local ingredients possible is our mantra.
Exploring cities and towns along the equator, tasting their food carts, and visiting the local markets have allowed us to bring that to the table an experience that enables guests to escape routine and enjoy flavours with friends and family.

Generally the food and service were good. One dish was listed as a large plate and seemed much more appetizer size. That at was disappointing and took away from the rest of the experience which was very good
Service was not the best…
Really good food, great staff, lovely place to dine
Great service. The Korean chicken was superb!
Menu is very small. Some items that were on the website, and previous visit, were no longer available. Some items completely different than previous visits, same name, but completely different presentation.
Great atmosphere and good food. Very lively energy.
My meal never came.
Food was incredible but it was so loud hard to enjoy dinner
Delicious food, good service. Was confused by the screen in the dining room playing a western movie. Have the corn. Amazing.
Food is very good
Noise level very loud!
Perfect spot for a business lunch. Will definitely book again.
First time visitor and was disappointed. Concept is good but food was hit and miss, drinks were mostly a solid miss. Service was good, but we waited for half an hour for drinks because they ran out of glasses. The maragarita was watery and tasteless and for $18, expected a lot better. The rum cocktail was okay. Korean chicken was excellent but the beef tacos were dry. Dan Dan noodles have very good flavour but also on the dry side. I feel like the menu has potential but overall did not deliver, and for the prices charged for cocktails we expected a drink that would make us want more, and they did not.
This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Winnipeg. The menu is amazing, and unique and authentic to its own dish. The service is always great and our bartender Sam was excellent. We will be back soon.
Food we ordered tasted delicious and our waitress was great.
Unfortunately, 3 of our party had to stay home due to children being sick (covid restrictions). The party of 5 who attended had a great time! Food was perfect, service was great, ambience is amazing. All 5 had nothing but great things to say about the whole experience. Thank you for a wonderful evening for some health care workers who really needed it!
Food and drink are always amazing. My favourite place to go before events.
The food was amazing and our servers were really great! Drinks were delicious as always. Would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Winnipeg!
Fantastic service and excellent food, can’t go wrong. One of my favourite places!
Merchant kitchen doesn't disappoint with the food, but the last time I went we had not the best service. Previously I have never had even remotely a bad experience there and last night just disappointed. Our waitress was very standoffish and my group and I felt as if she was kind of judgy? And just overall felt uncomfortable. It was very strange and put a damper on our night unfortunately
This was my first time at Merchant Kitchen. It was more like a pub than I expected (movies playing silently on large screens, bright acoustics, high noise level, simple food), but the food was decent and the service very good. I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic dinner or for an intimate, conversational occasion, but it was overall a good experience. The food was a bit ordinary for my taste, but it was all well prepared.
The food was outstanding and we shared A LOT of it! From the variety of chicken wings and tacos to the Superfood Salad, the scallop ceviche, chips and dip, to the grilled corn - we didn’t hit a single disappointment. We were there for a business meeting - a face-to-face after months of Zoom calls and while it was far too loud to talk business, we all had a fantastic time. You should go! Bring your friends!
Great food and a really nice atmosphere. Our server was lovely and I will definitely be going back!
I've been to the Merchant Kitchen once before a few years ago and I have been wanting to go back ever since because that first experience was SO good. My recent experience, however, was poor.
The noise level was so loud due to music and other diners that our table could barely communicate with each other, and we certainly could not hear our waitress through her mask.
A beer was spilled on our table and no one would come clean it. We had to ask three times for help and each time we were just given a few napkins, not nearly enough to soak up a full beer. We eventually had to ask for a cloth so we could clean it up ourselves, which in my experience is someone else's job when eating at a restaurant.
The food was good but in my opinion very overpriced for the serving sizes.
The service was just so-so. The most attention our table was paid was after dinner was done and the waitress wanted to get us out.
I think that the change in experience might have been due to new hires still getting a feel for working in a restaurant. That's what it felt like at least. I'll likely go back but I would not bring a large group again, and I won't be raving about it like I used to.
Great ambiance & amazing food! Would recommend for a date night or a fun place for a group of friends.
It was our first time out to an eat in restaurant… we were a group of 7 and we had so much fun! Our host was incredible and on top of it! We were lots of work ordering drinks & food constantly!
Definitely will return!
Just ordered takeout last week and the food was outstanding! We were excited for this visit to dine-in but food (identical order) was only ok. My old favorite cocktail had a definite recipe change and is no longer my fave.
Still, it MUST have just been an off night. We will be back.
Shared communal style concept. Food was outstanding, food came super quick. One dish after another. So everyone tried one dish before the next one came out. Drink service was a little slow. Very friendly staff.
It was our 10 year wedding anniversary and the merch pulled all the stops - fm amazing service, time to talk and enjoy ourselves & the surprise glasses of bubbly! Great night - thanks for everything, always
Usually have good service, but unfortunately not this time. Server left us for long periods of time and then totally failed to bring us one of our ordered dishes until we asked when we would see it. And then it came with egg, which we had asked not to have. Didn’t do much afterwards to make up for it either.
We love it here and the food is so good, so it won’t keep me from coming back, but was disappointing.
Good food. So loud that very hard to hear serving staff
The food was amazing. Loved the Korean chicken and the fried rice was outstanding.
Would recommend this to my family and friends.
Great food and specialty drinks as always. Great service!
Will be back ASAP.
The food was delicious, but the portion sizes were very small.
With a reservation, we were firstly seated at a very small table for two. The restaurant probably seats 100+. There was one other table occupied. I requested a change. They wanted us to sit in a dark corner, senior citizens, out of sight please.
The noise level was excessive from the background music, there were no diners, empty room. No problem with the type of music, but it did not have to be at 95 decibels as measured on my iPhone app.
The food and drink service was good. The hostess experience adequate at best.
I would not recommend this restaurant for a dining experience.
Always a good choice! Have been here many times and never hesitate to go back.
This was my first outing to a restaurant since the pandemic started and it exceeded my expectations. I am so appreciative of the mask and vaccination mandate set in place and it made me feel so much safer and secure. I didn't find the restaurant overcrowded, yet it was nice to see other customers there. Our serving staff was amazing and gave great recommendations and details on the menu items. It was Taco Week so we got to try the featured taco. We ended up ordering a second order of the corn and chips because it is so delicious! We also all tried the cake with peaches which was amazing. I will definitely come back!
Food was just bad. Menu resticted.
Elevated street food that taste delicious! I highly recommend!
Love this place! Always great food!
Awesome experience as is the case everytime we go there. Food very good as was the service. Always clean and even with Covid one always feels safe being there.
A great place to enjoy delicious, eclectic cuisine. My wife and I had a very good, all-around experience.
