The Merchant Kitchen is an idea conceptualized by travel and adventure. Honouring the traditional ingredients, flavours, and techniques of Asia and Latin America, while incorporating the freshest local ingredients possible is our mantra.

    I had the super fruit salad, it was great. The day I was there I had a late lunch with a friend, the place was quiet, very few diners and so our meals arrived very quickly. It is a good spot for a healthy good quality lunch downtown.

    The flavours in the dishes I had were unbelievably good. The Peruvian hot wings are mind blowing (and not overly spicey). The Thai fried rice was excellent, huge portion. I'll be back for sure.

    Food and service was fantastic. Given it was a concert night, the place was packed and extremely loud, but that was to be expected. Can't wait to try this place again!

    I have been a longtime fan of all of Bobby’s restaurants. Especially Merchant kitchen. I haven’t been to winnipeg in awhile and so I was excited to eat again at Merchant. Unfortunately I felt let down. The food was just ok when usually it is excellent. Corn tasted like it was from a can. No Dan Dan noodles that day. We took friends there and raved about the restaurant and I was very disappointed at the food. I hope it was just an “off night”

    the food was great as always. Disappointed in no DanDan noodles being available, but understand due to the noodle shortage. Our issue is that we were sat in the Party room that was being loudly set up and rearranged repeatedly. Tough to enjoy your meal with scraping chairs and tables, followed by private party participants looking at us like we did not belong. Would not sit there again.

    We went for the Malibu Barbie burger and fries with Ken sauce. Great food and atmosphere. Felt $30 for the burger with fries was pricey though.

    We started off feeling like we couldn’t sit outside not the restaurants fault but the location is brutal for drugs and usage outside the patio. I dont want to see heroin usage while eating. Inside very nice, good service, Dan Dan noodles were awesome but chicken was not worth the hype or money TBH. It was good but is about $10 over priced in 5 people’s opinion. I would still go back and try other things maybe sit away from the window

    The menu had many unique options that were great for sharing! Highly recommended the Korean fried chicken. Our server, Henry, was excellent in helping us plan out our choices and provided us with great service. We’ll be back!

    The staff were helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly! The food was out of this world. You can tell that each dish has so much care and thought put into it! I would highly recommend dining at The Merchant Kitchen.

    Everything was GREAT except for an extremely noisy table adjacent to us that thought it necessary to communicate by YELLING. The food was top notch and served in a well timed out manner. The drinks were tasty too.

    We were early birds for dinner starting at 5 pm as we had to get to a Fringe show at 7 pm. We told Ember, our waitress, and she was right on top of it. My sisters ordered tacos and I had a brown rice bowl with prawns. Absolutely excellent. Definitely go for the fried egg on top for that rich flavour. My sisters’ tacos were good. However, with only three per plate, they still felt hungry. Both felt that for the price of $20 per plate, four tacos would have sufficed. I suggested the chicken wings and Ember, once again mindful of our time restriction ensured they were served quickly. We all would go again.

    The restaurant is a nice looking room with decent ambiance. The service was good and the server pleasant. However the room was extremely loud and the tables were extremely close together. It has an open kitchen, and the smell of oil and other food being prepared overshadowed the smell and taste of my own meal. My companion and I shared a few appetizers plus I had an order of chicken tacos as a main. The food was acceptable, but not fabulous. I enjoyed the shrimp skewers, but I felt the sauce was too sweet for my liking to properly complement the grilled vegetables. There was a good amount of chicken in the tacos, but overall I would say the taco they were a bit bland.

    Menu looks creative - the problem is in the execution. Elote dip was very good - we enjoyed, however could use more heat. Plantain was not flavourful and sauce too runny to be useful. Pork tacos - pork very dry and taco shells cold --- needed to be crisped up.

    We had the peruvian hot wings (amazing), the dan dan noodles (also amazing), as well as the cuban sliders and pollo tacos (both pretty good). Our drinks were also very good, as well as our dessert (Chaja). I'm already craving the wings and noodles again so will definitely go back.

    Great food in a beautifully designed space. Was a bit empty so not a ton of atmosphere, but it was a Monday at lunch. Very attentive service. Not too much, not too little. Just right.
