The Merchant Kitchen is an idea conceptualized by travel and adventure. Honouring the traditional ingredients, flavours, and techniques of Asia and Latin America, while incorporating the freshest local ingredients possible is our mantra.

    Best food we’ve had since our return to eating out. So delicious we savoured every bite. Service was outstanding. Merchant Kitchen is our new favourite restaurant!

    Seriously overpriced very ordinary wines by the glass. Dishes could be described as “tasty”, but not outstanding in any way. Poor value in an extremely noisy environment, and we were there very early in the evening.

    Everything was excellent except the scallops. $35 for four extremely small scallops and an edible roasted radicchio. We felt really ripped off by this extremely expensive poor value entrée

    A couple of friends are in town so I chose Merchant Kitchen for the ambience. They really liked the restaurant and we all had a good time. Our server was great and was part of the reason we had an overall positive experience. We would definitely return! The drinks were great!

    Overall, the experience was really good except for one detail. I ordered the carnitas tacos without cilantro (I am one of those people when I eat cilantro, it tastes like soap). However when my order came, there was cilantro in it. I would have asked to have the tacos remade but because I was very hungry and had not eaten all day, I did not want to wait for another order so I ate the tacos. For the most part the tacos were good, except for the soap taste of cilantro. This is a good place to go to, if they get your order correct.

    The food was tasty, but maybe need to order more options next time. Limited liquor menu. Very loud when seated between the kitchen and the bar...ask for a seat by the windows. I would recommend this to a friend, but advise them on these few things, so they know what to expect.

    Food was really good. Ordered ceviche, carnitas, noodles and fried chicken. Only thing we really didn't like was the ceviche, it wasn't bad, I think it's an acquired taste. Everything else was excellent.

    Great food, wonderful service. We had the roasted sweet potato, dan dan noodles and 5pc korean fried chicken. Everything was phenomenal and we will definitely be back again!

    Food was ok but small portions, especially for dishes you are meant to share family style. Server was nice but really inattentive, we had nearly completely finished our entire meal by the time she made it back to ask how it was. Atmosphere was nice but quite loud and hard to hear the others in our party. Overall decent but a fairly underwhelming experience and we probably won't be back. I wouldn't necessarily avoid this place but I also wouldn't go out of my way to go back.

    The calamari was good but I expected more. Portion size was small. The thai fried rice was very good. Had the Korean chicken which was also very good. Drinks were good but a little pricey.

    The bistro, atmosphere, noodles, & flag ship Thai Fried rice worth a try. The server that served our tables were very attentive and active! Another top spot in downtown Winnipeg for Asian Fusion.

    Food was good… took a little while to get drinks at the beginning even though were lots of staff mulling around. Once drinks were ordered staff were much more attentive. (It almost seemed like a server hadn’t been assigned to us)

    Having moved from Vancouver we were looking for some good Asian fusion. I think we’re very close. We had the corn and chips and Nagoya wings as applies. The wings were very good. Nicely done. The corn and chip was also good. We make street corn dip at home right off the cobs, I know with your volume this is probably difficult. Overall it was tasty. Our mains were Dan Dan Noodles and Korean fried chicken. Both very good. A warning on the menu about spice levels may be a good idea. The noodles were delicious but had a lingering spice. Lots of people would probably like to know how spicy things are. We all know Asian spice especially Korean is different from western spice. Our Korean fried chicken was good. In typical Korean style it was fried twice for the crispiness. It would’ve been nice to have the choices of the sauces when we ordered. Then the second fry could’ve absorbed the flavour. Dinner was delicious. The service very good and the Van Van cocktail outstanding. We will be back.

    Awesome service and amazing food! We enjoyed the local beer on tap like Lake of the Woods and 1919. The cauliflower bites, Korean Chicken Wings and Yuca fries were all delicious! Our son enjoyed the chicken tacos and grilled corn. Staff are friendly and provided us with a fantastic dining experience! Highly recommend!
