My boyfriend and I had a wonderful experience. The cocktails were amazing, the food was incredible and the service was perfect. My boyfriend doesn’t usually like corn but your grilled corn is all he can talk about! We’ll definitely be back!
Such great food and atmosphere. A go to for date night.
We had a lovely meal. The food was incredibly fresh and flavourful. Our server was friendly and helped us with the menu and our selections. A great place
Food was amazing. Service was oddly off. Usually it’s great, but, this time we got our drinks and didn’t a server for over 20 minutes after that.
Could use a few more vegan or vegetarian dishes ,
My husband and I were at Merchant Kitchen on Nov. 27, 2018 for his birthday. We had never been before and decided to go because we wanted a place close to the MTS Centre before the Jets game. We arrived at 4:30 and were seated promptly. The tables are a little close together, but that was fine for us as the restaurant was not overly busy and we are smaller people. Our waiter was EXCELLENT and served us VERY well and was friendly and attentive all evening, even as the pace in the restaurant picked up drastically closer to game time.
We had delicious drinks (pineapple coconut daiquiris) and tasty food (he had the smoked jerk chicken tacos and I had the DanDan Noodles) then the outstanding finale:Pistachio Tart for dessert. The tacos were a bit on the smaller side (about a 4-5" diameter) but good flavour: nice smoke and good heat from the jerk spice. I would definitely recommend ordering these with the Yuca fries if you have a larger appetite, otherwise these are a nice meal for a smaller appetite. The DanDan Noodles were fabulous: great portion size, great spice and flavour, and very fresh tasting soft noodles with crisp peanuts. The tart was unreal: a thick pudding-like chocolate filling in a dark chocolate crumb shell with a fresh vibrant green mint syrup, salty pistachios and a sprinkling of white chocolate shavings...like I said, unreal.
The ambiance and decor were very pleasant and eye-catching. To us, it has a bit of a Moroccan or Middle Eastern-style loungy feel with dark floors and walls and bright crimson accents. We found it to be a very relaxing and comfortable setting.
Our only recommendations are to not bring those who are hard of hearing, as even with our younger ears we were finding it harder to hear as the space filled up with people near game time, and the portions on some plates are smaller, so order a bit extra food if you have a large appetite. Other than that, we had a very very nice evening at Merchant Kitchen.
Great food, good drinks. Sat at the bar for dinner with a great server. Very loud in there tho
Merchant Kitchen is one of my fave places to eat. Everything’s so good. The street corn though. It’s a must.
Excellent food nice ambiance service was very friendly and genuine be it a little slow at times. Front door needs to be shielded from the cold as it did get quit drafty with the cold weather. Overall excellent food and planning on returning in the near future.
This was our first time there. Our server was friendly. We had the Dan Dan noodles and the carnitas. Just the perfect spice level and so tasty! It was a Jets game night so the noise level was very high, not suitable for an intimate dining experience, more of a party atmosphere. I would definitely go again ( but I’d check the Jets schedule first).
Food was great, drinks were great, a
Great as always. Only complaint is the super cold draft that pours in through the door. An air curtain or heaters in the vestibule would make it better.
I've been wanting to try Merchant Kitchen for awhile and so glad I finally did! They did not disappoint - be sure to try at least one of their infamous tacos. Delicious!!
We had a very enjoyable dinner. The food was very good and so was the service. Our server was very friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and acquaintances.
We love the Merchant for a quick bite before a jets game, or a night out with friends. The food and cocktail menus are terrific and there's always creative features as well.
Went in for food and drinks prior to the Jets game. Both food and drinks were excellent and perfectly timed for getting to an event.
Before a hockey game with my daughter from Toronto. She thought it was great!
Food was good to great. Super noisy and our table was next to the kitchen in a high traffic area, even when we had a reservation.
Delicious meal that never disappoints. Very flexible with menu options for vegetarians but I do wish they’d dream up something for veggies that’s as big a hit as the Korean fried chicken (which my table-mates always rave about)!
Delish! You can never go wrong with the DanDan noodles!!!
Great food and high energy. Good place for after theatre dining.
I wasn’t comfortable sitting that close to other patrons. It also doesn’t make sense to have the tacos that are meant to be shared come in threes; they should be either 2 or 4, with the option to add more. It was pretty good, but would I go back? Not likely.
We had a very nice experience dining at Merchant Kitchen. The food was delicious and the service was excellent.
The food was great, the service was excellent however, the night was slightly tarnished due to an occurrence outside. Although no fault of the restaurant, watching someone be physically sick directly outside your table took away my appetite and somewhat spoiled the experience.
Loved this restaurant. The food, atmosphere and service were excellent. Parking was the only tricky part.
We have been here multiple times and the service and food are always consistently great!
Great place to eat prior to a Jets game. Food was good. You will need to make a reservation. Its gets busy fast.
Went before Mellencamp. Server was fab. New there just from Vancouver. She’s a keeper great tacos.
We love the Merchant Kitchen. Best spot in Winnipeg for great food and awesome drinks. Our go to every time we are down town for an event or a night out.
My wife & I took a friend & his wife to the Merchant before the Jets game. Didn't quite know what to expect but we were all very happy with the experience. A variety of beers we have never heard of, spicy food that did not get too hot & just plain tasty food! Looking forward to going back again!
Pam our server was wonderful, the food was delicious (especially the Dan dan noodles) and cocktails were well worth the higher price. Had the chocolate torte as a birthday dessert and it was deliciously rich and decadent!
Love this place....great food, atmosphere and service!
The Merchant Kitchen was one of the most unique and flavour filled food experiences of my life. Try it for yourself. That is all that needs to be said.
Half price wine bottles on Thursdays! Beside MTS Centre. Excellent food. Very happy!
Tapas style. Good for pregame and post theatre dining. Food and service are good. Noise level sometimes high
Normally we love the Merchant kitchen but they have changed their menu and have less healthy vegetable-rich options. Also when we asked to move tables, as there was approx 12 inches of room between seat back and table, the server gave us attitude. Then she was not attentive and did not check on us after our food came or even offer us more water. A disappointing visit and probably our last for a while.
Great restaurant...one of my favs! Very loud though on Jets game nights due to the wide open room!!
Food was great. Korean chicken outstanding, as were the taco chips, the super food salad and the stir fried rice dish....
Food was interesting and flavourful with lots of variety. Designed for sharing which added a fun element to our get together. Good value for money. Only downside was the extreme noise level where we were sitting ... Made conversation difficult. Not sure if there are quieter areas, but something to keep in mnd especially on Jets game nights when the restaurant is full.
One of the best restaurants in Winnipeg. The food is incredible.
