We came to Merchant for a special dinner with our oldest son to celebrate him turning 10. The service was impeccable as always and the staff was so kind to our son who was out for a very rare “fancy” dinner. Our food was excellent and it was such a fun experience sharing one of our favorite restaurants with our son.
Lovely service! Highly recommended the lemon tart :)
Great food, excellent service, nice atmosphere. Enjoyed the music selections but found it was loud.
Excellent service and food. Was a bit noisy. Good value.
Duck breast tasted amazing
So did the calamari,
Was first time there. Will deffently return and recommend
Never had a bad experience at the Merchant - food and service always top notch.
The restaurant was cold. Needed a jacket on to eat. The food was PHENOMENAL! Wait staff were excellent!
The mugs and forks and plates looked well worn and used.
It’s an expensive brunch, but it’s worth it. The product is worth the price.
Exceptional meal once again! The wagyu appetizer was amazing, as was the pork belly main. Paired with the bustling atmosphere and great cocktails, it was a fantastic experience. Hats off to Chef Nick Walters and the whole Merchant Team. Can’t wait until next time.
Very good meal, the chef made cod for us which was not on the menu. all enjoyed, will definitely be back
It was great
Food and wine was excellent! Andrew our server provided excellent attention to us and Tracy the Sommelier was very knowledgeable. Tracy recommended the perfect wines for us. Every bite from Amuse Bouche to dessert was delicious!
Always exceeds expectations, great night out!!
Wonderful experience again. The five course tasting menu with wine pairings was fantastic.
This is one of our favourite restaurants in St. John's. The atmosphere is great as is the service and food quality. We loved the new menu items and enjoyed the onion rings, moose burger and fries and especially the won ton soup.
We had an awesome meal. Food was great and the service was great! Never disappoints
Good place great food and drinks but a bit pricey
Very tasty food and top-notch service!! Will go again for food and drinks.
Overall good, salmon was not hot enough . Need condiments with Caesar’s. olives, pickles.
Everything was great. We loved our meal selections and the atmosphere.
I have eaten at Merchant several times over the last few years, and it is always consistent and good. The menu does not change a lot, but there are always specials.
I was disappointed this time, as were others in our party, that they have taken Madeleines off the menu. These were always excellent and I do not know of any other restaurant here that have or had them.
Nonetheless, a good place to eat and I will be going back.
Food and service on point. Visiting from Toronto. Worth it.
Drinks were great!
Food was delicious!
Our server Bridget was so great!
Fabulous night out
Good service and great food.
The beef tartare was a bit different than usual - the usual is better! :) not sure what was different
What a great atmosphere, service, and unique menu! Everything was awesome.
Excellent moose burger special of the day with generous delicious fries and aoli, nice selection of beer including Quidi Vidi Calm Tom on draught; good range of wines by the glass; excellent selection of single malts; friendly, professional, welcoming service staff.
Food was delicious as always and great service. Only negative thing I will say is the snow crab platter was not worth the money. Hardly any crab, $30. Definitely not worth it. Wouldn’t recommend. Otherwise the steak and fries is the best in town.
Enjoyed a fantastic evening at Merchant's Tavern. Scallop and Tuna Crudos were thoughtfully composed, super fresh and delicious. Our table of 6 enjoyed a wide variety of entrees including a burger, duck and cod. The cod was served with a crispy skin and fall vegetables all swimming in a light but warming pork broth. I am not from the island but this dish really felt authentically Newfoundland. The suggested wine pairings were spot on. I can not wait for my next visit to the beautiful part of the world and this gem of a restaurant!
Great service and nice atmosphere. Food was good but not outstanding. It was definitely expensive for brunch.
Excellent service. Great brunch cocktails. Best eggs benny in town.
Great service, great food, & great atmosphere! Definitely will be back
Service and food was fantastic. Highly recommend
Food was terrible. Had a great experience before, but this was the absolute worst and the pasta came out undercooked twice.
Always great. Lunch menu variety was more limited than I anticipated
The one very surprising occurrence was when we asked if there was an extended wine list. The waiter said he would send over a sommelier. The “sommelier” gave me a taste of the wine he was proposing. I indicated that it was good. He placed bottle on the table and walked away. Gotta admit I have never had a “sommelier” at that point not pour the wine for us. Not the service I would expect at this caliber of restaurant.
For the food the tuna and scallop special of the day were quite good. However, the cod was not up to par when compared to the quality at Mallards Cottage.
Service and food were amazing, staff went above and beyond to ensure we were satisfied. Great experience!!
Excellente soirée à St.Johns
Loved it. The food was superb. It was nice to connect with Jeremy.
Service and cocktails were wonderful as they have been in the past.
Food did not met expectations set by previous visits.
My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. The meal was very good well proportioned and prepared to our order. Service from our server was excellent as was the wait time to be seated and the wait time for our appetiser and entrée servings . He was very attentive and kept coming back to see if we were satisfied with everything or needed anything further. Presentation of our meal was excellent. I have couple bits worth noting: Your menu is very limited. While our reservation was booked well in advance the lady on reception greeted us with "we are overbooked so you will have to set at the bar", however, that was quickly resolved and we were seated at a table. In the meantime there were open tables all the while we were in the restaurant. Your prices are higher than expected. We had no drinks, shared an appetiser and a desert and had 2 entrees. Total all in cost $145.00.
