Great food and awesome service!!
As always the food was good. Live music is always a bonus. Server is friendly and helpful.
Great restaurant in St. John's with an interesting menu of food and drink. Very large setting. We could only get reservation at 5:30 (did it too late) and within 15 minutes, the place was starting to get very busy. By the time we left, after delicious meal and great service, it was jammed. Only objection was level of music, which we found too loud. Definitely go back.
Awesome food and atmosphere!
Made a reservation for Sunday brunch. When we arrived, there was a note on the door from the previous night saying that the restaurant's dinner service would be cancelled for that night because of a "system failure". The message contained no information/update for those customers arriving for brunch. NOR WERE WE NOTIFIED BY A PHONE CALL OR TEXT. My husband and I wasted the time getting there, and then were further inconvenienced by having to find another place to eat. This is not the way that a so-called high-end restaurant should operate - with no respect and appreciation for the valuable time of their customers, or in our case, EX-customers.
The red headed server was so positive. The food was amazing. Can’t wait to go back
Excellent food and service. Second visit for me. Definite must when travelling to St John's.
We were late due to parking. I called ahead to let them know. It was our anniversary. They gave our table away. We showed up and couldn't stay. We were extremely disappointed.
The food was excellent but the noise
Level was a bit much
Love the food. Server was great as well. Will definitely be back again
We visited the Merchant Tavern for brunch. The overall experience was fantastic. The food with great as always👍
We go to brunch every 2 weeks at the Merchant, myself and my son, and it always makes our day extra special.
Bacon was thin and almost cold. Plate was filled with fries!
Buttermilk biscuits were a little soft in the middle.
Poached eggs were ordered medium to hard and the egg white was runny!
I have had better experiences at Merchant Tavern. This was not great.
It was a wonderful meal, our server was amazing! It isn't a restaurant with a quiet cozy feeling, but the atmosphere is fun and the service amazing
Amazing meal as usual. The duck is superb. The staff know their wine pairings. Espresso was delightful. I'm always pleased with everything!
Had the chicken burger taste and spice level was very good but too much oil/grease the plate was covered in it after and the bottom bun was soggy other than that the experience was great server was friendly and prompt
The food scene in St Johns as a whole is greatly under appreciated, at least as far as my experience goes. This restaurant in particular would be a destination in any major city.
We loved everything about this place. We named the moose head mounted at the entrance so when you go there for a meal--and you really should --say hello to Spencer.
Service was a bit weird. Waitress was talking to every table around us about how busy and crazy the night was and it sort of makes you feel like you’re getting a lesser experience when it’s like that. Asked for our leftover food to be packed up and we never got it. Pasta took “al dente” to a new level - understanding that fresh pasta is meant to be served al dente, this was actually a bit undercooked.
Second time for dinner at The Merchant, and not disappointed with the food and ambiance.
What did disappoint slightly was the constant apologizing from the server for keeping us waiting on initial and refill drinks (it's like someone once told them to apologize to avoid any conflict, without telling them that too much is overkill and meaningless), and OH MY GOD STOP TAKING (EMPTY) PLATES FROM THE TABLE BEFORE THE WHOLE TABLE HAS FINISHED - such poor manners, making those still eating feel rushed!
These are the only negatives, and are hardly worthy of avoiding the place (and make me seem VERY picky) - great food (recommend the Steak Frites - juicy steak and INCREDIBLE fries!
Server continued to mess pup orders for food and drink. Waited for drink service a long time. Served food without cutlery and had to ask another server for cutlery. Food ordered was subpar. We expected far better from what we had heard about the place. Appetizers where okay. The pickled mussels would prob be the only positive experience out of this meal.
Took almost 20-25 minutes to get our drinks after ordering them 3 times. My pasta was good but my wife had the special (a hamburger) and it was over cooked and dry. When we got our meals we didn’t see our server again until we waved her down for our bill, which we had to ask for twice. The most attention we got from her was when she hovered as I was putting in the tip; although she was very friendly.
I would go there again to sit at the bar and have an appetizer and a drink but not again for a meal.
Food was cold and duck had raw fat, not cooked properly
Food was fresh, hot and delicious!
The best place to socialize friendly and super atmosphere.
Incredible food coming out of the kitchens and great cocktails. Classy joint.
We ate appetizers and had drinks and dessert. The drinks we’re tasty and actually mixed not poured out of a premix box. Loved dessert
Excellent meal and service as usual. Relaxed atmosphere and staff very pleasant.
Efficient service, delicious food, great space and atmosphere.
Bonne bouffe dans une belle ambiance! Service attentionné
Very good restaurant. It is always a must do when I am in town.
Great presentation, super flavours and excellent menu choices.
Always enjoy eating at Merchant Tavern but this trip, the service could have been better. Did not get exactly what I ordered and had to ask for a coffee refill.
This is our "go to" when we have visitors in town and want to entertain or be entertained. The atmosphere is energetic and we like that diners are a varied range of ages. The food was fantastic the flavors were well balanced and everything was cooked to perfection. We shared the mussels to start, had the pork, steak and duck for mains. Everyone was very happy. Service is friendly and professional. A wonderful night out with a friend from overseas.
I wish i could go back again and again so as to be able to try all the delicious sounding dishes😁 The Merchant is a good reason to come back to St. John's.
Been there several times. Never been disappointed. Another great evening in all respects
Food was a little salty but overall was a good experience
The seafood soup was the best I’ve ever had. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Upscale modern restaurant, great bar and cocktails
The food beautifully presented and perfectly cooked
The tetley cream we come for was very bad. Not at all the same as a few months before. And we had to order it on a not so tasty vinegar pie. My cod was good but quite salty. Server was overworked but she did a great job. Service is excellent, but food had something to be desired especially for the price
Make sure to book a table in advance. We were happy to finally get a time to eat here during our stay in St Johns. The food was excellent. The appetizer fish taco was the best I ever had. Everything else we ordered was very good too but I will never forget that fish taco. Delicious.
