We pass this place everyday and never thought to go in
So glad we did. Such an inviting atmosphere, amazing drink menu, creative and delicious food combinations and amazing service from Natasha!
Food was a little bit strange but it was good because we were there for a bachelorette party. Definitely wouldn't do this for a casual lunch. Also wouldn't recommend for vegetarians; Very, Very Meat heavy.
On a friends recommendation (they frequent it) we went for our weekly dinner date. Outstanding food, service and decor. A very "Northern" experience, friendly/informative staff, with earthy food options and a woody interior.
New favorite in Vancouver.
The food was innovative, but heavily salted. Some dishes worked, some didn't. I would agree that portions are too small for table of 4 to share. Lamb dish was not good..We had to request a change of plates 3/4 of the way through our meal. Not good to mix too many flavors- meat/fish/sauces..etc.
One thing we were aware of (this is true in most places) was the loudness of the music. I pray every time we eat out this horrible trend goes away. People want to converse with each other, and be heard. I do not want to listen to music meant for the staff in the kitchen to keep them rocking along while cooking. I would not return for that reason alone.
My partner and I love the Oakwood! I recommend it for date nights, brunch and family dinners.
Food was unique and flavorful. Staff was friendly. Presentation was beautiful. Local BC wine selection had good choices for wine by the glass.
A beautiful restaurant in Vancouver. Cozy and extremely friendly service. The food was delicious and typically Canadian. Warm kale Salad or fries with cheese and gravy sounds funny but is delicious. The menu is well laid out, the portions also make a man full and the prices are very cheap for Canada.
We had an early dinner. Warm kale salad is consistently good. Spot prawn dish was outstanding. Potato dumplings are their take on perogies and were good.
Good service and a nice vibe, I liked the wooden, intimate decor inside. We sat outside in the glass area which was quiet, warm and cozy. The staff were very knowledgeable about the food, and the dishes were very tasty, the portions are very small though even for the mains. We ordered 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts and only then were we full. I would visit again.
It was my second time at The Oakwood, and once again the food and service were fantastic! It is a bit on the pricey side, but it is in Kits and the food is pretty special and delicious!
Limited small-plate menu of a little too trendy items. Food was average.
One of our favourite places-- a combination of creative comfort food and interesting new creations, with very nice drinks menu.
Perfect for Mother's Day - excellent variety of dishes, creative and well thought out.
The Oakwood was fabulous! They provided great service for our group of ten and they suggested multiple dishes family style which was super as we got to try many dishes. The wine was really great. It was a great venue for ten of us all from out of town/country.
Loved the menu. I wanted to try everything and couldnt decide. Our server really was helpful with suggestions.
The Oakwood has been on my radar for quite some time as I live in the neighbourhood and was excited about some of the food options (e.g., kale salad!) There was unfortunately one significant problem: from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, were were rudely interrupted by our server who rushed us and constantly reminded us that we needed to "be out within the two hour dining limit." My friend and I were excited to catch up and instead, became distracted by the number of times (10+) our server came to the table to push us to order, remind us of the time and let us know there were guests waiting for our table (we left exactly two hours after arriving and did not have plans to linger). Despite the yummy food and cozy ambience, I would not return and would not recommend this restaurant if you are looking for a relaxing, enjoyable evening.
this was my first experience dining at the canadian oakwood bistro and it was absolutely enjoyable in every way! our server was exceptional, friendly, attentive and very helpful with offering suggestions off the menu.
we had the kale salad, grilled humboldt squid and lamb confit and scallop crackling. wow. i’d have them all over again in a heartbeat.
the flavours were so varied and delightful on the palate, and the presentation of the dishes was beautiful.
i will definitely be back and highly recommend this vancouver gem.
oh...and the atmosphere is cosy and warm. great design!
We ordered 3 dishes, squash, squid & steak (for 2 of us)
All beautifully presented & each was outstanding
Didn’t have any room for dessert but next time .....
Highly recommend this restaurant
PS when the first dish (squash) arrived we dived right into it &
forgot all about taking a pic
Loved the food, especially the warm kale salad. Server moved us to quiet, intimate table at the back by the fireplace. Perfect for a date night!
I can’t recommend this restaurant highly enough! The service was phenomenal, as was the food. Was a perfect date spot, definitely plan on returning and I can’t wait!
The food was great although Tapas style so be prepared to share the small plates. They all taste great and look amazing. Some very interesting flavours but the small plates don't last long. It will keep your dining experience short and to the point but filled with great taste.
The restaurant is very noisy and it can be hard to hear the person across the table or even beside you but that was largely due to the music that was turned up far too loud. The closest visible speaker was not even near our table.
This was our first visit to the Oakwood. It’s a lovely funky little place with a smallish menu which we like. We shared the burrata beet dish which was delicious, and my hubby had the burger and I ordered the squid. The burger was good. The squid was fishier than I’ve had elsewhere and the pepperoni Ragu was a strange accompaniment. Sounded interesting on the menu but fell short on execution. We also felt rushed as the first dish arrived minutes after ordering and the mains immediately afterwards. We were there for a total of an hour.
Glad we tried the Oakwood but don’t know if we’d return.
Burger 2.0 is cooked well done now but still amazing. The poutine is crazy delicious, as always.
Amazing as slwsys
As usual the Warm Kale salad was beyond reproach .... service was excellent. Th only reason I am not giving a 5 Star is the gnocchi dish was not as good as past versions. Didn’t care for it at all. First time I have not been over the moon about dinner there. Will be back soon though. Management was very concerned and offered another dish instead but we just weren’t hungry enough.... too bad! They were great. Never fail to impress.
Menu was inviting but we were sadly disappointed. Doneness of the meat/seafood was very good (we had lamb, duck and squid), but the issue we had was too much oil (lamb), unnecessary sauce and not so crisp skin (duck) and way too much salt (squid).
On the plus side: service was friendly and atmosphere was lively.
Not my first time enjoying Oakwood but took 2 friends for their first visit. They are foodies and were totally impressed. Even claimed it was one of the best meals they have had in 5 years. Thanks Oakwood for allowing me to impress some foodie friends!!
Great food, and service, food came out as was prepared (shared plates). Pace could have been a little slower so we had time to digest each plate a little more!
food was quickly served but too heavy i.e. deep fried or heavy sauces. Squid was too salty
wine list was fine
We love the Oakwood. We have been there a number of times and we were never disappointing. Unfortunately this time 2 of the 4 dishes were quite treasured a bit too salty.
Food was savory and presentation was great
I have been there a few times. I remember the food being a bit more memorable than my most recent visit. But great service and a fun place.
My girlfriend and I enjoyed a nice dinner at the Oakwood. Kale salad was surprisingly tasty considering I'm not a fan of Kale. Everything else we ordered was very tasty and the service was fast and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends.
We enjoyed the sharing concept and ordered four dishes. The warm kale salad was excellent, the fried gnocci should be removed from the menu - is was very bland, the pork belly and duck were good.
The music was loud for my liking.
The wine focused on BC wines and we tried a number by the glass but none of them were good enough to order again.
I fell the food was odd. Not traditional which I prefer but the service and interest in me as a guest was very good.
Wonderful bistro with exceptional food, especially the lamb belly!! And great wine! Highly recommend!
The service was great at this place. Very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
The food was all beautifully presented and four dishes between the two of us left us stuffed to the brim. The duck was both of our favorites. It's not the quietest place but could still hold a conversation without yelling and the ambiance is nice and cosy.
We will definitely be back.
It would be nice if the dining times were a little bit longer. We finished with about 5minutes or so to spare and weren’t rushed at all but I did find myself keeping an eye on the time quite a bit instead of paying 100% attention to the conversation.
Excellent service and choice options on the menu. Personalised staff that had an in-depth knowledge of the menu and wine list.
Great room. Great food. Great service. Definitely left a happy customer
