The Oakwood Canadian Bistro
Hasn’t disappointed us yet and have been several times. Enjoyed the menu change since we went last.
Valentines. The waitres was great. +1 to the buttered old fashioned recommendation.
Wonderful date night, we can't stop thinking about our valentines day meal it was so good.
Excellent food and great price!
As always, we were so impressed with our dining experience at the Oakwood. The poutine is phenomenal. The fried chicken skins are unusual and crunchingly satisfying. The warm kale salad is the best thing that ever happened to kale. Also? Great selection of BC wines. Loved our night there as always!
The sharing format worried me because my husband and I have different tastes. We ordered separately: problem solved. Our server was excellent, thoughtful and there when we wanted help. Food was tasty and well prepared. . . maybe a bit fancy for my husband who eats in a bygone era. I ordered the delicious boar and enjoyed that fact that it was not a huge portion. He enjoyed his fish.
This was Dine Out so limited choices but there offerings were varied and all were delicious. Add on options were very reasonable. I think they used to have a screen but happily that wasn't in evidence. Televisions have no place in fine dining.
Oakwood always has good food, and it always had good service.
We did the dine out Vancouver menu at this restaurant. We chose it based on the excellent reviews, and the proximity to our accommodations. The restaurant promptly seated us, and our table was acceptable, although very close to other diners. We had no complaints with the service..but we really came for the food. The first course I chose was the beet salad. As promised it was pretty well all beets.. but I expected something more done with it, considering the restaurants rating. I picked the lingcod as my main.. it was very good, but it was so small I could have eaten it in4 bites..and it was surrounded by a tomato based circle of baked beans.. be sure you like beans, as that was all there was... My dessert was a small cup with chocolate pudding and a few nuts, and at least an inch of what seemed to be uncooked meringue.. after removing most of the meringue,I ate the pudding. Now to be fair, my husband picked different selections, and he was mostly satisfied with the taste, but the portions were exceedingly small. We have been here in Vancouver for 2 weeks, and have tried at least 5 different dine out restaurants. This one is definitely at the bottom of our list. We were very disappointed.
Excellent service from the time we were greeted at the door to the end of our meal, all the staff were attentive & friendly without being intrusive. Cozy atmosphere...maybe a little noisy as the restaurant got busy, but we were very happy to notice that music was not present drowning the ability to have a conversation. That is annoying in so many restaurants now. Our food was delicious from first course to dessert, & many compliments to the talented chef & accompanying kitchen staff. We will return, & thank you:)
Two of our group (6) were delayed and arrived late, but the wait staff was very understanding and didn't rush us.
We all had one drink and ordered from the dine out menu. The food came at very reasonable time and all dishes were tasty. No one had any complain about the quality of food and service, except one friend who always has really health appetite and felt the portion of his cod could be bigger.
We all had a great time and agreed that we would return for the regular menu.
Appetisers - The Smoked Beetroot salad was excellent as was the duck.
Entree - I did not like the spicy beans that accompanied the ling cod - the flavour over-powered the fish. The spare ribs were very good.
Dessert - Both tried were excellent - smaller portions would be better.
Wines - Excellent choices and educated staff.
It was a lot better than New Year dinner. I wish they can bring the spaghetti back to menu. Their spaghetti in old menu is so good.
always delicious. cozy atmosphere. Not much more to say!
This restaurant never fails to please. Always innovative and delicious. The beef with the celeriac purée was fabulous. Terrific friendly staff as always!
Ambience was great
Food has flavour but can be a bit salty in the meatier dishes
Service is excellent
Atmosphere was great
Tables are a bit close together, would be nicer if it was spaced out a bit more
Overall it was great and would come back
The service was extremely underwhelming. Nobody bothered refilling our water unless we asked 4 or 5 times during our meal. The courses were luke warm at best.
The food was amazing and the staff was helpful and efficient.
The 2 people table were a bit small, but the food were good and the atmosphere was great. Would definitely visit again.
The different courses were really unusual and quite tasty. The service was excellent.
Dineout menu peaked with the appetizers and got worse with each course. Mains were very salty and dessert was chocolate pudding... I’ve been during regular service and it is definitely higher quality and effort.
The food is always original and very tasty, we went there for Dineout and I greatly recommend The Oakwood.
Came here for Dine Out with some friends, and the food was alright. Honestly, been here before and had better food so don't think Dine Out really did them justice. Service was impeccable as always, super friendly servers who explained the dishes every time and never left a glass empty. Definitely would recommend, just maybe not for this year's Dine Out menu.
Very nice place with good atmosphere and delicious food.
Great place for innovative food and excellent cocktails. Expect lively atmosphere and tables fairly close together so not really for quiet evening out. Brought a friend visiting from Germany and he loved the range of food (boar was amazing!!). Staff were wonderful and the close tables made for a more social experience in our case as we compared notes with the couples on either side. Every time I go here I am reminded that I should go more often!
Creative, yummy good, friendly very helpful server and staff. Really enjoyed my first dining experience at Oakwood
New Year’s Eve with family
Great NYE tasting menu.
Will come back to any place who serves food of good qlty that tasted excellent with presentation and friendly service to back it up.
I will always come back for that warm kale salad!
Always a great ambiance and the mulled wine was fantastic.
The server told us the dinner experience is like tapas and to pick a selection. It’s nothing like tapas. They frustratingly just stagger your food. So the salad we order to have with a meat dish had to be eaten before we received the meat dish.
Food was lovely, shame that the tables are so close that you are part of the next tables loud conversation. Would recommend going off-peak to avoid this.
The Warm Kale Salad never disappoints. Great variety of menu options for sharing and well rounded to suit a lot of different food preferences and tastes.
There were six of us for dinner so that gave us a good opportunity to try many things on the menu – there's so much to like that you won't get anywhere else. We especially loved the warm kale salad, the burrata with bacon jam, the torched crudo, the potato dumplings. The server was extremely helpful and made sure that some dishes were topped up so that there were enough items for each of us to get one. This is the perfect spot to come to after an event at the Chan, so make your reservations ahead of time so you don't miss out. And bring enough people along so you will get to try out several share plates. Love it!
I never expected that my absolutely favourite part of my meal would be the duck skin on the duck main. Not to take away from any of the other excellent courses, but the duck skin was perfectly crispy and aromatically spiced and oh so delicious.
The oakwood never disappoints. They really have the right balance of casual, cozy atmosphere, delicious, innovative food, and attentive service
Great food. Love the warm kale salad. It is the best I have ever tried. Would be great if you could add a protein to it too
Excellent all round, as usual 👍
Really enjoyed the happy hour deals and unique eating options. Service was excellent- we shall return!
Took my friend and her kids to the Oakwood for dinner on Friday night. Our server Carlene was fantastic, she was funny, knowledgeable and attentive, she also walked us through the menu and made some excellent suggestions. The wine list had some amazing B.C. wines by the glass which were very reasonably priced. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, it came out in a staggered fashion so we could all taste each dish, the kale salad and the poutine were table favourites but the rockfish crudo was my highlight, light cured fish with excellent accompaniments. Would highly recommend this neighbourhood favourite to anyone looking for a great experience.
I frequent The Oakwood quite often and I’ve never been disappointed. Great food and just as equally, great service!
Great food and great wine! Rachel and Rob were wonderful in helping us navigate both the food and the wine menu. The chicken skins and the peanut butter ice cream bars were both delicious.
